IMHO the 'firetruck' just SCREAMS CUMMINS! They make gobs of torque, are more fuel efficient than any other diesel engine I'm aware of and are probably the most reliable. Plus, the inline design is easier to make 'fit the engine bay'.
Practicality pretty much sums it up. Giddy up.

8.3 cummins is my vote for the fire truck. I bought a bluebird bus for $200 when my landlord kicked us out of our apartment to do renovations. It had a blown engine and it was super easy to replace and work on. I did the whole thing in my parents driveway with basic tools. Its also super reliable and doesn't care how I treat it.

An engineering tip for building up berms and jumps with sand and mud, add a few layers of fabric or chicken wire.
To understand why, look at those videos of sand cubes holding up a truck with paper towels in between. Basically it helps bind the loose material together and keep it from sliding or washing away too easily.
It’s what highways do, they build up their berms a few feet at a time, lay down a permeable fabric and lay down more etc.
I’m sure you could source some scraps of garden liner or chicken wire to use.. it makes a massive difference so it’s absolutely worth the time and effort to source and do.
When I built a small shooting range at my friends property we skipped that step and had to rebuild it 3 times until we just started over, used garden liner strips and it’s lasted for 6 years now with only tiny adjustments, mostly due to rain and eating thousands of bullets.

For bar stool tops, turn disk out of some nice rustic/weathered wood you can also harden with cactus juice epoxy and then clear cast epoxy into center so you can see the sprocket and what now from the top. Would look amazing. Also build little front room on the man door, so you dont let too much warm air out from the new garage when you walk in or out. Its also good place to store some beer to keep it nice and chill with out freezing it.

While I haven't personally worked on them, a good engine that I think you guys could use for the firetruck is the LDT-465C engine that was used in the M35A2 military trucks. The C's with the whistler turbo topped out at I think 190 horse and 400 ish footpounds of torque, but they could be turned up for relatively cheap. The biggest benefit to using this engine would be that it is a multifuel engine. You could run engine oil cut with sawdust if you so desired. I would also recommend converting the oil filters to modern canisters with anti drainback valves, since the original design let all the oil drain back into the sump, which starved the engines in the first 20 seconds of startup (every time they are started) These engines go for around 4 grand in good condition, which is comparable to a more powerful cummins 6.7 or 8.1, but I think if you guys don't want to worry too much about what you fuel it up with, or you want to make use of all the oil changes you're making, it makes for an excellent disposal system. Oh yes, these engines are 478 CUI inline 6's

The motor itself is what creates the 3rd phase, the capacitors in that electrical box are to reduce the in-rush while starting the relatively large motor. The motor is able to do that using the relationship between the windings and spinning magnetic fields. Relatively simple concept, but the best way to create 3ph power these days is to use a vfd.

As a viewer that has been watching GHPC right from the start. I definitely want to say congratulations to you guys with the announcement of your brand new shop or should I say build center or perhaps GHPC headquarters. since from the way you described it will be so much better, not only for the AWESOME build's and creations that you guys produce. but also for every aspect of what you guys and GHPC as an entity do and making it operate like a well oiled machine so to speak. I probably wouldn't be too far off in saying that a large amount of the success that GHPC has achieved. is due to you guys thinking outside the box. and the remainder is from a lot of diligence and hard work. those zip lines are an interesting mode of transportation getting around your property. and Edwin answered a question I had, what if for some reason you get struck in the middle of the zip line? and the answer is sort of what I thought it would be. and that is to be flexible and monuverable enough to get yourself up on to the zip line and right the dolly. and to have Ethan somewhere nearby to throw him a rope good save guy's. I would have to guess that it wouldn't be too good to have to drop from that highth. that would almost for sure mean the possibility of some broken bones. those are the times when it's great to have a good buddy around to help you thought. and because of you guy's partnering up and making GHPC happen it has allowed you to live even more of a great life. where you can live life at wide open throttle and get the most out of it. and the bonus is viewers like me can ride along with you. and get to experience some of it vicariously through you and GHPC. so keep up the great work guy's I sure appreciate it.
oh and I wanted to mention AWESOME Job on the house. it takes a little extra knowledge to build a house that will hold up well though North Idaho winters. and the consideration you give to repurposing is amazing, and lot more people should consider that since it's way too much of a throw away world these days. it's sad to not have Sam as much of a part of GHPC he really seems like a decent guy and seemed like a really good fit with GHPC. I had a conversation with Edwin and he said due to the same circumstances it was sad that it had to happen. and he said that Sam would stop by and possibly make an appearance, every now and then when he could get the chance to. and you have two new members to the GHPC team that are similar to Sam, in the respect's that they seem like decent guys that will be a good fit with GHPC. and each one has respective skills that will be quite helpful to GHPC, to ramp up productivity which should add to the incredible success that GHPC has been already having. as a viewer that has watched GHPC from the beginning it's amazing to see how much you guy's have grown and how much you have done. and that the old shop has served it's purpose and with the new shop this Will usher in a whole new era for GHPC. again keep up the good work guy's you deserve it.

You guys should definitely do a motorized trolley build for a longer zip line. Also, some house builds would be fun to watch and a good way to find time to get it “finished” up

If you get any more 3 phase equipment, you can buy cheap 3 phase vfds (variable frequency drive) off of eBay. They serve the same purpose as the phase converter but are smaller, simpler and fairly cheap. I use an 8hp vfd rated at 25 amps continuous load to run my 3 phase compressor at home. Works great and you can wire in e-stops and other things. Just a little tip, hope it helps. Awesome videos as always.

You might want to think about having the brackets for a 2 floor at the front and a gantry to pick up and place stuff on that 2 floor. The gantry can even help make the 2 floor later on. Good job keep on going having fun and giving content to the masses.

Wow this is crazy so much progress since the beginning! I’d say a c15 caterpillar would be sweet, or the 12 valve will be the simplest with a few bolt ons to get more power. Congratulations Ethan and Edwin can’t wait to see future episodes in the new shop!

The fire truck should definitely have a Cummins! And the first guy you wanna contact for that project would be Rick from DEBOSS GARAGE.
    czcams.com/users/DEBOSSGARAGEfeatured
You could make some seriously cool colabs with him on many future projects. He's basically doing his stuff in the same spirit as you guys, but from a more automotive perspective.
And he's a wizard with any engine and a well seasoned diesel mechanic with an eye for weird projects exactly like your old fire truck. He has done a ton of colabs before. I bet he would love it.

There are a lot of engine builders that will build you a 632 big block, and will build a better one for less money than the GM one. There is a shop called Raymac racing engines in Mansfield Texas that sells a 747 cubic inch big block designed for large rv’s and duallies that tow heavy. Insane torque and runs on cheap gas. That being said, a diesel swap would be better in my opinion. Cummins would be cool, but maybe a Common Rail instead of a 12 valve. It’s a little more involved, but you can tune them with the right software. They start easier in the cold, where the p-pump 12 valves don’t like to start in the cold. The older VE pump Cummins start great in the cold, but the pump won’t support near as much power. The Common Rail (03 and up but 04.5-07 are the best) spool big turbos the quickest, and are really the most drivable anywhere from stock to tuned to the max. You can detune it from crazy to towing with just a laptop, or a 5 tune switch kit, where a mechanical diesel needs some real work to turn it down.

I think for the fire truck engine you should do a 24 volve Cummins with a compound turbo and a 6 spead Allison transmission from a Chevy Duramax

One of the most talented fabricators on CZcams! Its amazing watching you guys engineer these crazy with pen, paper and some cardboard!
If the back of the new shop is going to be so close to the ground you should consider blending it into the hillside and making a living roof, it would save even more on heating and cooling and totally blend into the outdoor paradise you guys have there.

You should get someone to dredge the pond out for you (because you're too busy to take on more projects), so in the summer, you can drop into it from the zip line. You can also move a lot of that sand to a beach for the pond. Just an idea.
