When I was around his age...in the early to mid 80's ...I was checking out books in Library about cars because I wanted to be a race car driver.. my Dad and his friends owned muscle cars ...one of them was even a mechanic who became the co owner of garage...I became interested in Japanese Imports and European Sports cars as well...I would buy Hot Rod Magazine, Car & Driver, and other car related magazines with my weekly allowance...I know that this Hobby helped me a lot with reading, science, and even history in school because I wanted to learn about the founders of the car companies and everything...let that Young Man dream...my love of cars has helped me meet people from all over the world and it still brings me joy!

My nephew who was also into cars, he wanted to be a car dealer, had a photographic memory. He could just see a corner of a car and tell you what it was. Apparently photographic memory rarely lasts into adulthood, and now he just has a "normal" memory.
When he was 7, he sat nxt to me at church. He was bored during the sermon. I had him memorize psalm 23, and he did, verbatim.
Memorising the psalm is better than memorizing cars.
This is a young boy with his career path in his hands in the sports cars world and Jay Leno is the cherry on the cake for him.
I respect the kid for knowing all this stuff. But this is stuff no real car guys care about.

I remember when I called myself a car guy for knowing facts like this. Then I joined an Autos class, and I realized I knew nothing.
The fact that a bunch of adult guys needed to mark their territory saying that they know more than an 8 year old says A TON about the community...
You’ve got the wrong idea. We aren’t ragging on the kid for not knowing enough, just not knowing typical “car enthusiast” info. This kid is deep into top speed and car price but neither of those things matter on a race car. (For example the Ferrari FXX doesn’t need a high top speed, it’s a track car) Everybody’s gotta start somewhere and since I bet you’re female, you better start by learning the make and model of your car… if you understand those words. We aren’t generally a hostile community at all. This kid is just has different knowledge than most people value and people are pointing that out.

So knowing super cars and knowing the real world's cars is 2 different things. My boy is the true boy that knows everything about cars. He can literally tare a motor apart and put it all back together. I seen him do it more than 3 times with me only helping him maybe 5 times through it all. And he's only 11. He started comprehending how vehicles works when he was between 3 and 4. He still blows my mind when he starts talking cars and trucks. Well he's more into trucks than cars, big trucks. His dream is to build his version of trucks. He has a dream and he will accomplish it. Cause he sees the dream and he already knows what he needs to do to make that dream a reality. I garentee he would blow the minds of the greatest car and truck builders and the most advanced mechanics if they ever sat down and had a conversation with him. The way my little man's mind works is amazing
