The coronavirus pandemic has uprooted every regular operation across the country with the Indian automotive segment that was already on the edge, being hit the worst. The automotive manufacturers were advised to clear out their BS4 inventory before April 1, 2020, as the new BS6 emission norms will be valid in the country after that.
However, the decrease in overall footfall due to the pandemic scare as well as the nationwide lockdown has created another unappreciated condition for the manufacturers. Since the dealerships were not able to sell their remaining BS4 inventory before the deadline due to the lack of customers, the Supreme Court has officially extended the deadline on selling the BS4 products by 10 days post the lockdown is lifted.
As per the latest updates, the nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 17, 2020. So if the nationwide lockdown will end on May 17, 2020, the dealerships or manufacturers would be allowed to sell their BS4 products from May 18 to May 27 and not after that.
Major car manufacturers have now extended the validity on the BS4 car discounts available in the Indian markets to liquidate as much remaining BS4 stock as possible between the 10-day extended period.
