The Prophet himself had slaves, and they were often taken after wars. I’m not sure why Ghamidi Sahab is suggesting it was banned just during the Battle of Badr. Our fiqh includes detailed guidance on this, stating it’s up to the ruler whether to take concubines or not. He didn’t even mention the term "right hand possession."
While everyone agrees that freeing slaves was encouraged and would have led to a progressive and systematic end to slavery (by freeing existing slaves), it’s important to note that during wars, slaves could still be taken as prisoners of war. The issues related to sex with them are addressed separately in fiqh.

Since the reign of Banu Ummayyah, Islamic rule ended. All the subsequent reigns, including the aforementioned, twisted Islamic laws to their own liking. Hoarding of wealth, alcohol, and similarly slavery, became the norms of their society. Their method of ruling itself demonstrates that they weren't Islamic. A Khalifa is not permitted to live a lavish life. But these monarchs lived in nothing but endless splendor. Hence, their doing is of no value to our Islamic laws and neither can be used as an authority.

Well explained but Hazrat forgot to mention the biggest step that was taken for freedom and equality of slaves was the example set by Nabi AS himself in case of his slave Zaid bin Haritha. He was not only freed and adopted as his son but the Prophet pbh arranged his marriage with her cousin Zainab RA which was duly sanctioned by. Allah SWT. Zaid's son Usama was appointed as head of a continent which was to go for battle against infidels and very famous Sahaba RA were placed under his command. Is there any such example set by any one in the history?. Probably no. This was the final.nail in the coffin of centuries old traditions of slavery. Please do add this most important aspect in your subsequent talks which are so educative and illuminating for not only the Muslims but for mankind as a whole.. Jazak Allah khaira.

today "modernists" (quoting this because some are really progressive but some of them are what Jordan Peterson calls "Pusedo moralistic" individuals) call on slavery not being prohibited by islam as a major reason to reject Islam and our mullahs try to justify everything without taking reason into consideration. But personnel like Ghamidi is someone God has given us to see Islam though the eyes of modern western individual and we can see how progressive Islam was in cases of eliminating riba (modern interest based captilistic society) so poor can get some relief, asking people to be kind to slave, to free them, to implement the system of zakaat etc..
I would say Ghamdi Sahab uses the method of critical thinking and analysis when forming opinions or reaching conclusions. Islam has always been like this.

Sir if slavery was forbidden during the battle of badr then how come in surah ahzab verse 26 it is told that the Muslims made captives of the banu qurayza? If Allah had specifically banned the capture of new slaves beforehand then how can the prophet ignore that command under any circumstance?

@@apurpose8614 I respect Ghamidi sb and most of his points are quite logical but I think he made a massive mistake here. My point is that slavery was never banned and even if you lay down the code of how to treat your slaves fairly and if every single Muslim were to follow that exactly (which we both know is impossible), it still would not make up for the fact that you took away their basic human right to freedom and that in my mind is irreconcilable with a fair God.

As far regards banu quraiza, banu quraiza's entire tribe comitted serious war crimes. And when the were bought to judgement, they were given choice to choose between muslim judgement and jewish judgement, they chosed their jewish judgement according to jewish law, which was passed by wounded saad bin muaz who was a jewish then and saad bin muaz was also choosen as judge by quraiza people, not by Allah or the prophet. Even banu quraiza accepted that judgement. Now you can ask, why the women weren't freed with their children, do you know when president Abraham lincon freed the slaves they willingly returned to their masters just because they had no shelter at all and poverty. If the women were left without there male gurdians where would they go because at that time women were totally depended on their males? The children would have died out of poverty and hunger and the women would get involved in prostitution, or being captured by other arabians and sold as slaves which was quite frequent in that time of non muslim arabs. Was that better? Saying things seems sometimes easy, but we have to think in context of circumstances of that time. If you read world history of quite modern than seventh century many asian soldiers at the time of world wars used to hold enemy women mostly wives of army officers in captivity in concentration camps, every night different soldiers would rape each of the women, even when they were given food like dogs, tortured physically, beaten and with heavy work load was these better than the treatment of banu qurayza? I cant change your opinion nor you can mine inShaAllah, but i think taking pows as slave seems quite logical because if you leave them unpunished freely they would again and again conspire against you, for example the war criminals of my country even got into power and politics with proper conspiracy and killing the (weak: women and children (without in return of killing)) among enemies is a sort of cowardness to me as well as feeding them in captivity in jail without any benefit is a foolishness nothing else. Dont read western orientalism, they are too much biased in their opinions and they only praise the west to hide its flaws

Please take a list of Islamic countries which banned slavery.I t all ranges from 1960 to 1980 Mauritania being the last country and still clandestinely practiced over there.

Hadith No. 4350 quoted in sahih bukhari says that, this practice continued and wasn't stopped after the war of Badar,as it quotes the event which took place short before to Hajtulwida. If it was stopped after the war of Bandar then why Ali did so?
