I'm in very much the same position you are. I started as an AF Kickstarter backer before GI Joe Classified was even announced. As time progressed I've noticed a toxic nature evolve in the AF community and it's putting me more out of the line. I am simultaneously refreshed by Bobby's honesty regarding the business side, and put off by his willingness to at least tacitly condone bashing of dissenting opinions. I was all in on the main characters of series one, but I only got about half of series 2. Series 3 I'm all in on the main line (not army builders), but I'm likely done with AF After this unless there's something really cool. I've dealt with some of the common defects with this line, as you covered in this video, but overall I have enjoyed them as a whole. However, with Classified producing some of their best work currently, and my nostalgia for that property, I can't justify continuing to heavily collect both lines.

You hit some key points. With Classified pumping out so much and making really good figures, it’s hard to want to spend this kind of money on figures that might have a defect and I have no nostalgia for.

Yeah I collect both Action Force and Classified. Both have positive and negative aspects of each brand.
The toxic fans on social media including certain CZcams channels are irritating. I’ve unsubscribed to a few channels who spew too much hate and make some really unfunny and cringy jokes. They clearly have their audience and that’s cool. I’m not wasting my time with them anymore.

So after watching one of your previous vids on the issues that you had with these Action force figures I was a bit uneasy about the figures that I had coming from BBTS. I had ordered 4 figures, 2 Delta troopers and their gear packs and 2 Night Ops Steal Brigade. I must say when they showed up I was pleasantly surprised as the Steel Brigade looked really really good in person. The first thing I did with all 4 of them was hit them with about 30 sec of good heat using the wife's hair dryer before I started moving them around. You could really feel the difference from the super stiffness right out of the box to just that bit of heat. It made them "playable" per say. Gearing up the Delta Trooper I hit him with heat then popped him apart at the ab joint. I heated his vest just a little and that made getting it on and closed super easy, then I heated his ab and popped him together. I did the same when changing hands out. Super easy. I also bought some little containers to store the millions of other hands lol.
These figures are going to be played with by me and my kids so we'll see if they hold up as well as my kids classified figures have. So far no issues.
All in all these figures are not bad if your into Military figures in my opinion. I can't seem to really get into the story line of their universe so I will be staying away from most of the named figures and the Sci-Fi scarab troops. I do like troop builders though, and I get what you are saying about the pricing, but having the ability to just take blank slate as it was and customize it with what ever gear you choose is kind of fun. I've actually just ordered 2 more Delta gear packs and 2 of the black dressed spec ops troopers. I think that combo will blend nicely with the Steel Brigade.

Your objectivity is much appreciated; but, you know you are gonna catch heat from the Vala-boys. Positive criticism is needed to improve the line.
Why Vala-boys are so sensitive, IDK. These are toys. You can only be but so invested in them. This toy toxicity takes all of the fun out of collecting.
I'm into troop building using the Vala Delta troopers. Hasbro doesn't have a generic trooper or weapons packs for the Classified line. This is what makes Valaverse so unique. The two lines compliment each other. All this tribalism has to stop.

I have to admit, I did listen to alot of Valaverse haters, in the beginning. Only pulled the trigger to get Sgt Slaughter. The figure was ok, but a bit small. The thing I hated most about Valaverse was, and is the head sculpts.
A few weeks ago I went ahead and pulled the trigger because the Night Ops Steel Brigade looked really nice. Of course being a die-hard collector, I had to get more than one. I picked up that Steel Brigade, Garrison, Condor, and 2 black army builders and 2 Riot packages.
Being a die hard Joe collector since the 80's, I have to admit the only thing Classified has over these figures are nostalgia, and the head sculpts. More bang for the buck when considering Hasbro raising prices. Take in consideration I have not had any quality control issues.
Most figures have a mask and or helmets so not that big of a deal. I have plenty of Legends head sculpts laying around so problem solved.
Being a customizer as well, I love how different the figures are. Honestly they look more like a special unit of Joes. I think the matte pants, vests, and weapon options make the figure.
Lastly, like I stated earlier, I am and forever will be a Die-hard Joe collector. Due to Hasbro taking their sweet@$$ time releasing figures, I became more of a customizer. These figure just open up my imagination. I now have endless possibilities of customizing.
Everyone do yourself a favor....ignore everyone. Pick up a figure or two and decide for yourself. I did and I don't regret it. I would probably recommend heating the figures just in case. I didn't, but then again, I live in Houston. The temp in my car hits over 100 so maybe that why I didn't have issues.

There is so much potential for valaverse because there is direct communication with the creator. I haven’t had any of my figures break, but for my delta ops trooper, the hip joints are loose. I appreciate your honest opinion. Overall, I like the line but there are a few issues with the figures. I realize that it has to be hard to start up a toy company from the ground up and not have some growing pains. So for me, I’m willing to cut some slack for the issues as long as they get resolved going forward (which they seem to be). So far the only issue I ran into is with one of my BBTS exclusive steel brigade(shoulder split). I started collecting from series 2a, so I don’t have the same experience as the initial collectors. I think some of these CZcamsrs don’t realize how respect they lose when they shill or try to create a action force vs Gi joe mentality. Both lines has its pros and cons. Hopefully for series 4, 5 and beyond, Action force can get away from having the same body mold for most of its male figures. I understand why it’s needed for starting up, but they do need some more diversity in their body molds.

I have been watching Retroblasting for a long time. Then I started watching Analog Toys and I heard about Bobby Vala and started watching their podcast. I was excited that they he started his own toy line. I was really impressed that so many Toy CZcamsrs got behind Bobby and went to bat for him so to speak. But at some point it did get a little out of control in which some people just came after anyone saying anything negative of Valaverse. I'm glad you are saying the truth.
At first I thought it was a direct competition with Classifieds but after more thought I really don't think they are. If you are collecting Classifieds because of the nostalgia they bring, because you like seeing your old GI Joes "all grown up" so to speak then Classifieds is the line for you. Valaverse won't do any of that. If you like military figures, with accurate firearms, and new story lines then Valaverse is for you. I'm a GI Joe fan and that's why I collect Classifieds. I'm not interested in collecting a whole new line of figures. I do want to support small toy makers like Valaverse and as a Marine Veteran I do like the authentic firearms he uses so I will be buying a select few figures. The price is steep at $32 the most i have paid for classified is $25 and most were $20. I do have a Valaverse weapons pack for the Joe's. Although now GI Joe is coming with more realistic guns.

It doesn’t bother me that I need to do extra steps to pose the figures. The extra hands I just put the hands in an organized tackle box for just my action force figures. Good honest review which is what I come here for. AF is a mostly good to great Line, considering the shaky start of a first Kickstarter not even making it that there are two Waves finally in the wild and a third on the way is nothing to sneeze at. The quality is mostly good - but that "mostly" is doing a lot of work. QC seems to be great for some, not so great for others. It's the fact that you have rightly highlighted the known issues in the face of an almost complete pass from the rest of the Review Community that points to the problem some of us have......the Shilling. Those so firmly in the Bobby-can-do-and-say-no-wrong Camp just come over as idiots and reality deniers. And it's not necessary. The product can mostly talk for itself. Being gaslit by RetroBoi and Sgt. Drunky that everything is awesome and anyone having any issue at all is lying is just insulting - and dumb.

Heat is definitely your friend. If you pre-heat with the hair dryer you can wake up all the joints and help with the tighter joints. It's a lot safer to do it that way for sure. Particularly if you're popping off hands, abs, or heads. Be extra careful with loosening up the legs at the thighs. If you feel any resistance, heat the leg, and work it slowly. Work every joint slowly before you start Playing with the figure. Alot of these figures have been sitting in containers for Months, plastic being what it is, and product coming direct from shipping to distributors to retailers, and product mostly being used to fill pre-orders, product doesn't sit in retail long, acclimating etc. If you bought the Weapon Pack Bravo, with the Saw and mounting legs, or the Trigger figure with the saw weapon, I had to heat the weapon to soften the clip area where the stand leg stand went, because of the rigidity of the weapon. You risk breaking the weapon if you don't. Once in, it's in. That said, Re-use is heavy, that is by design because of the cost of tooling. Shipping from overseas factories per container has gone from 3,000 a container to 6 or 7 times the cost, and they still haven't raised prices, I think because they are already priced at what they are. Since these aren't mass retail, they are considered specialty figures, and priced the way they are.
I bought 4 delta troopers, scarab, sgt. slaughter v2, trigger 2b, garrison cavalry, with more to come. Here are my thoughts.
    1. Vests are hard to put on without specific tools.
    2. I had one scary neck joint moment, putting a head back on with a delta neck joint. Necks need to be ball jointed at the base like classified, not one piece from the chest. because there is only a forward joint, turning the head forces the head to look up if it's not facing front. This design puts a lot of stress on the chest/neck area when swapping heads. Double neck joints needed. If you use heat, they come off a lot easier. 1 of 4 deltas had a cracky noise when working its head on.
    3. Series 1, Hands, Neck, Thigh joints are scary without heat. Excess paint in hands, makes hands feel scary swapping. I swapped out 3 hands, and they all felt super tight and scary pulling on without heat. 2 of them were seized and had to be worked slowly to loosen before pulling at. If you can't rotate at the wrist, don't pull, heat and work.
    4. Of the 4 delta gear I put on, I got 3/4 moderately on, but they all took a ton of time, and none of them look perfect. The mushroom peg system is flawed. They perhaps need to move to a double snap system where they can plug into one another vs. through the holes.
    5. Heavy re-use of parts. Alot of the extra accessories are Hands. It's like super 7, but Super 7 gives you EVERYTHING you want, and stuff you don't want. Valaverse gives you 1 figure, a sidearm, a rifle, knife, and a Body Armor Kit (Kit, Belt, or Leg straps). The figure buck is 21.99 with nothing. Depending on how you look at it, is all the customizable stuff worth 12.99? If anything, what that means, is perhaps the base figure is overpriced slightly. I really think the base figures should be like Hasbro's troop builders priced at 14.99, with 12.99 assessory packs. These should be around 27-28 bucks tops.
    6. Head sculpts are Bleh. I used all the masked heads for everything.
    7. Me personally, I have no nostalgia to this line, but their troop builders give us what GI Joe Classified has not thus far from the joe side (Green Shirts).
    8. Better Ankle click placement. Given that the same buck is used for most of the figures, the ankles pass the test. I have 3 alley vipers from classified I've opened, and they all have loose feet, which messes with their stability because the clicks are miss aligned, causing it to lean forward or back, with too much play in between. If you work the ankles, they will become loose, and will have a lot of play. Ironken 3000 has a great review of problems with this figure.
    9. Weapons are rigid, 100 percent fit Valaverse figures, some don't exactly match up with classified trigger finger hands (different line Afterall), some weapons look slightly out of scale for classified, but 1000 percent more detailed, and a 1000 percent upgrade to what you got with the classified figure.
    10. Tight Joints - Heat first, handle with care, wake all joints before play/posing. Drop down Hips are scary. I've had tightness on Classified as well. I work every drop down joint individually, on classified, and do the same method with these described by a Fwoosh video, to minimize breakage. Ton's of Classified opened, I do this with every one. In regard to Valaverse, the only one's that gave me issues where Series 1 and Scarab (Scary left leg). Heat is your friend.
Thoughts on Valaverse: Good figures, improvements moving forward for tier 2B onward address past issues. Pegs for vests stink. 90 percent of reviews flat out skip this step or mention that its difficult, takes time, and can be hidden, or they just don't talk about it for time. I wanted to get figures in hand before I expressed thoughts. Weapons are rigid, highly detailed. I replaced half my Classified weapons for the Joes using up a Weapon pack Charlie. They look a ton better. Summary, Treat with care. Work the joints after heat, wake them up before use.
Hasbro and Classified aren't perfect either for sure. There are issues with loose feet at the ankles, and once they lose friction, become loose or lean. They have tightness as well, that need to be handled in similar manners, have hand swap issues that can develop into loose fitting. They have very little options for customizing other than 3rd party. Their weapons are easily replaceable once you have better 3rd party offerings.

Do you need to do a heat treatment on Wave/Series 2 figures? I haven't broken one yet...but they are stiff AF and I get scared when posing or changing hands...

The knifes and stocks did break on some of my figures. The stock on the m4. The bag of hands is a fact. I stopped opening them.

I have had some good luck with Valaverse, but I have mostly 2nd wave. I haven't managed to break a weapon from them yet...except for one knife when I was putting it in the sheath my finger nail caught it as I was pulling away and it snapped off. Sadly, there is no way to replace the knife :(. No one sells 1:12 scale small knives. Now, with Classified, I have had numerous issues. You speak of quality on the Alley Viper, but I cannot agree. Just trying to put the rifle in the figure's hand, the trigger ring broke. Same thing happened to the Uzi for the Kamakura figure. Also, when I was posing the figures outside to take some photos, the sun heated the weapons and melted them. That was just 80 degree Fall weather, not August sun. Not to mention standing issues with Classfied. Alley Vipers are the worst. Something wrong with how they're designed, they just can't stand well. I have to use figure stands for them and can't pose them without them having to lean on something.
Now, in regards to my complaints with Valaverse, is that they are very stiff. Classified is largely loose enough to pose them easily. The other problem is size. Take Sgt. Slaughter for example. He's so thin and short. He's shorter than the Valaverse "grunts." I have the Delta figures and a Night Brigade figure. They are taller than Slaughter, which diminishes his "authority" stance when you want to do Drill Sargent type photos. Don't dare sit Sgt. Slaughter next to Gung-Ho. OMG, Gung-Ho towers like a mammoth over Sgt. Slaughter. That's where Hasbro's Sgt. Slaughter is going to win out over Valaverse. He clearly has the Gung-Ho/Roadblock build.
With all that said, I am very happy with Valaverse and will continue to get them. I even have some Wave 3 on pre-order.

So, I’ve recently went into a massive rabbit hole to find accessories for my AF and GI Joe figs. If you didn’t know already, but Grid Iron studios sells 1:12 scale bladed weapons, including knives, and if you go on I think Hobby Link Japan, I believe you can find a slew of 1:12 knives and other weapon accessories.

I am a huge huge fan of Valaverse and what they are doing. But I also appreciate your honest review. I collect both classified and Action force so I don't understand why there is this toy vs toy. I don't agree with some of Hasbros business practices for sure though which is why I am a huge fan of valaverse. But a great deal of Joe action figures that have come out so far have been pretty good.

I can see why people really do like Action Force but why so much hate for either brand is beside me, when it comes to the actual figures. But sadly I do understand why so many people are turned off by Valaverse and some of the people that are spokesmen for their brand.

My biggest "bad" is the price of the fully kitted up troop builder. As a Mythic Legion collector, a normal figure is 37 and an builder is 26. The only difference is paint apps...which I'm told is where the money is.

I also agree that the Valaverse and GI Joe Classified community has been very weird and being in the minority that prefers the Sci Fi aspects like Swarm, the Sci Fi Guns has people in the community being very toxic to me instead of letting me like what I like when I say I like such things.

    • @Apunkwithtoys

    • @waltascher
      @waltascher Před rokem +2

That’s what always gets me. Whenever I see people talk about how great Action Force is, they always mention four things:
      1. Extra hands
      2. The stand
      3. realistic weapons
      4. good guy troop builders
And I’m always like…cool, but I don’t want any of those things. GI Joe isn’t supposed to have generic soldiers, I don’t want a bunch of extra pieces floating around (one of the reasons I started buying the line is their great accessory storage), I don’t care about stands (because they’re designed well enough you don’t need one), and most importantly, GI Joe is a sci-fi property! They fight snake people and go to outer space! Cobra has teleporters and clone technology! And TWO of the original 13 had laser weapons! Sci-fi guns are completely within the scope of the franchise. I don’t think *every* figure should have them, but there’s nothing wrong with them.

I recently commented on a valaverse video, under their question about if we wanted to see more videos of bobby walking around target complaining about toys, I said "no I want to here about your products without you having to bash other products" I figured since they are so critical they would be able to handle some criticism with ease, The valaverse account called me a hater and challenged me to make a "move". Im not shure I care to support that type of company , Small ,Large or inbetween. My impression is that bobby is angry at the toy industry, And thats what his company is about, Not saying im correct just saying my impressions. Agreeing that the vala community will get wierd on anyone who isnt in full praise of the line.

I'm surprised Valaverse hasn't taken advantage of creating figures that aren't necessarily politically correct. We're getting a bloodied version of Pandora, so that's a start. These characters are killing each other in the comics, so where are the alternate severed arms, blood effects, hidden (capped) wounds that can have sharp objects impaling them? Don't have a stomach for blood, then where are the risqué females?

    • @Apunkwithtoys
      @Apunkwithtoys  Před 2 lety +3

Here’s my genuine question for you, did you watch the video? I don’t only complain, I try and do an honest review of the product. I still buy this product because the good out way the bad, but sadly there are people that don’t know anything about it and all they hear are CZcamsr’s telling them this is a perfect line. When you don’t know a line, and you pretty much have to order blindly, I believe you should be able to do research and actually find what’s good AND bad about it before investing your money. Every line can use improvements, but if we don’t give objective feedback to the manufacturer, good and bad, then they will continue to make the same product. Hope that answers some of your questions

🥷🏻 We have completely different experiences, outlooks, wants, etc. For example, I would cite extreme poseability and outstanding (kit-bash) customization potential with a near perfect amount of body parts able to be disassembled. If you’re a customizer, this line is for you. If you’re a poser, this line is for you. I have snapped one weapon to date, and it was completely my fault. Also, not the only toy in my collection that I’ve snapped. Classified Snake Eyes foot snapped at the ankle with ease. Also, I’m all about the variety of hands because I do more with my figs than folks who simply unbox, display, and forget. That said, I value your opinions and do not deny your experiences. Thanks for sharing!
