Wanted to talk about Cat-eyed Boy. Super solid series! Check out my gaming/podcast channel! @eclecticcollectorpodcast Social media: linktr.ee/thehouseofsleep Outro song: Himself the Majestic - Across the Galaxy
Good review (as always) - I was waiting for the second volume to come out before starting it. I was a bit skeptical at first, wasn't sure if I'd enjoy older manga, but I've read The Drifting Classroom and really liked it.
Starting that one soon. May end up doing a video on that series as well. Heard from multiple people it is pretty solid. Thanks for watching! It feels good to have returning viewers! 🙏
Yeah Umezz is in my top 5 fav mangakas, the works I've read that aren't available in english yet, being Fourteen his last manga & is insane, God's left Hand Devil's right Hand witch is my favorite of his manga, as it is Umezz at his most guro & very graphic, the last one I read was Baptism enjoyed it but I'll need to re-read it😅 He's also done a take on Utraman though no ones translated it yet, also Makoto Chan witch has been noted as one of his best works & is also a gag manga, so he done more then just horror & is kinda Japan's national treasure, as he's done stuff outside of manga such as hosted awards/game shows(you should be able to find them on CZcams) also takes part in them as well & is in his 80's, oh & he's done some albums as well. He's great👍
Had no idea he was involved in so much stuff! It's cool to know he's prolific in more than just manga. Nothing wrong with that at all. Hopefully more of his works are eventually translated into English. I know a little Japanese, but only a few Kanji. Love the art form of manga as a whole.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Drifting Classroom and will probably do a reread next year as I have a goal of 200 novels/manga. The next Umezz I would like to read is Orachi, when I get them.
@@eclecticcollector88 It could be quite hard, but I could knock out half of it by rereading/catching up one one piece 😜. I do hope you do have the time to read Drifting as I would love to hear your opinion but don’t stress over it.
As far as I know Umezz wise I've only read all 4 volumes of the Orochi series. I've heard of Cat Eyed Boy and The Drifting Classroom. But I do hope I'll have a chance to read more of Umezz's works since I'm an avid Junji Ito reader. 🙂❤📚
@@eclecticcollector88 oh I whole heartedly agree with you on this itos short story collections Tombs and Shiver are some of my favorites among many. 🙂❤📚
Funny I thought in some of the pictures Cat Eyed looked like Gollum from Lord Of The Rings fame. Though then you mention another character was that basically. I never heard of this author or really good with names when it comes to Manga. That one dude makes me think of guy form Gigantor or some Anime I saw growing up in Black and White. Kinda makes me think of Ghost Girl or Nue's Exorcist or like Phantom Seer. I liked Tokyo Demon Bride Story which has Yokai but it never got a break. I don't think I would get this as it seems like he is constantly getting beat up. Him being a cat or animal it is a bit much like Iggy in JoJo. The bugs reminds me of Moriking. There some interesting or art. I'm glad they are making things in like Ominbus. I wish Black Clover had Deluxe Volume releases. I think of myself as a Monster ;).
@@eclecticcollector88 Cool I heard its supposed to be based on Brothers Grimm Blue Exorcist. Though I don't know if they mean the Movie? I have that on Blu Ray so they would scam most of them until they ran into a real event. Booty Royale has a nice like 2 Volumes in 1 for their kinda release. Its odd how stuff like that is printed in Canada. I just stumbled on it for Akashi Tiangle reading what happened with that Manga. I wish I had shelves I missed out on Claymore for like 130ish. I got the Blu Ray set for around 65ish at least ;). I've had somebody tell me about the Anime having issues because of that other Twin Star Exorcist one ;).
That one is supposed to be pretty good! Hoping to start it next year as well. One of the biggest names in Japanese horror. Inspired Ito and Kanako Inuki.
That's a shame dude. I don't mind it so much. Want to check that series out at some point next year. Maybe knock out a video about it. Cat-eyed Boy does get way better as it goes though!
I love this older style, it feels a lot more personal compared to a lot of art now, especially character designs that seem generic and interchangeable with everything else. I''m not saying all new stuff is bad/old is good, of course.

The Drifting Classroom is great, I'm reading through the Orochi books now and they're more hit and miss, but still some good stories in there.

That's an awesome goal! I do want to read Drifting Classroom next year. That's going to definitely be quite the undertaking.

Looking forward to starting Orochi and Drifting Classroom myself. I love Ito-sensei's works as well. Dude has a boundless well of an imagination.

I'd like to get a Blue Exorcist omnibus down the line, but we'll see.

Great review! You have me really excited to try Umezz! I've added The Drifting Classroom as one of my 9 priority series to start next year!

The dated art in devil man took away from it for me.

This looks and sounds very cool bro. Japanese are the masters of horror.
