    Oh my god very funny! Even as a tourist I experienced some of your frustrations. On about 2 weeks, there was 2 long power outages (one just the night before I left Rapanui). I was in the village and I had to take a taxi to go back to my room because I couldn't see anything. The internet, it takes me like 15 minutes to send a picture to my girlfriend and other friends in Montreal hahaha! I think it's still satellite internet in Rapanui. A bicycle without shocks forget that, holes everywhere! The opening hours of the stores are also very different. In the afternoon, mostly every places are closed and reopened only around 4-5pm. I can understand what you could experience because it's really different for a tourist who will go back home after their trip but in your case, you live there all year round. I remember fruits are very expensive but you have access to very good seafood that is very expensive in Canada or other countries. Happiness is in little things they said! :D

    Few reaction: in my language (hungarian) we call the speed bumps as: "lying policeman" 😅 or "seated policeman". Funny, is not it?
    This waiting time for dentist is nothing actually. 😆
    If you come from a half-barbarian country (like me from hungary) actually very easy to handle this. For westerners probably worse. 😆
    Short story from hungary in the past: I needed a certificate from a psychiatrist to prove to my new employee that I am not insane. 😊
    So. I went to the hospital and asked appointment. It was on 5th of august. At the reception the nurse told me: "No problem. I can give you the next free day on..hmmm.....hmmm....ohh yeah...2th of august."
    Me: "Ma'am! That was on the last week! Today is 5th!"
    Nurse: "I said 2th of august. I meant next year...If it is too late go to a private hospital!" 😅
    *******
    If you think this is a joke in east europe you are wrong. 😆 This is normal. So. Somehow I am not suprised about it. Here we have to wait for 2-3 months for a dentist. 😅
    Rapa nui is a very fast place. 😅
    **********
    Other thing: I am surpised about that how expensive the fruits in lot of countries around the world where they actually growing....and realised that the healthy lifestyle is ALMOST just the "rich" people's lifestyle....

      Luckily I do not live there anymore. 7 years ago I left my country and travellig the most of times.
      Anyways.
      This speed bump there amazing!😅 Like a motocross-field. Hehe

No more black outs and finally ? get off 'town water,' have septic tank and big water tanks filled by rainwater from your house roof? Just curious as to whether this actions are viable in your isolated.

  • @lionhearted1969
    @lionhearted1969 Před 3 lety +2

    I think with the scant vegetation (almost like an arid place), foreigners, especially from countries where lush greenery abound, won't be able to live long in the island without getting bored from seeing the almost monotonous environment every single day. Outside the main town of Hanga Roa, it's almost like you're thousands of miles from civilization as there's no sign of human presence (no houses, no stores, no electric posts, not even farms). I just can't help but wonder, how the natives are able to live their life in such a small and almost barren island and so far away from the closest modern city (Valparaiso) to enjoy the modern comfort in life. Have they ever watched movie in a theater setting? The landscape is quite depressing to look except for the lush vegetation at the center of the island along the main highway. The landscape of Easter Island is very different from most other Pacific islands where, despite their smaller in size, lush vegetation and forested tall mountains are found. I hope Chile will cede this island to the native Rapa Nuis to be their own independent country. I'm sure foreign investors will come and help develop this island and start aggressive reforestation across the island, and help them modernize their infrastructure (telecommunications, roads, highways, education, health, etc.) without compromising their cultural traditions and identity as Rapa Nuis. Rapa Nuis, genetically, are beautiful people and they should be proud of it. Easter Island can be another city state with lots of greenery and preserve the natives' identity like anywhere else in the Polynesian islands.

      @@RapaNuiLife Yes. I have been visiting countries or islands through Google earth and sometimes, Google street view where available. But videos like yours are better because those are up-to-date pictures of how Easter Islanders live. After reading about this island I start to worry about their future because based on your videos, the Chilean government seems to have very little concern about the island at all in terms of development in infrastructures and industries to improve the lives of the locals. The national government should invest more in Rapa Nui and develop the lands for modern agriculture, put up more sustainable industries, invite foreign investors to build more hotels and invite foreign airlines to fly straight to the island, among others. It's quite amazing to note that the island is more famous than the country itself. Many people know about Easter Island and the moais but maybe more than 2/3 that number doesn't know about Chile. Yes, I'll look forward to your videos. Tnx.

      @@lionhearted1969 I think this kind of development and tourism would destroy the island and the Rapa Nui culture. This has happened in other parts of the world. Ive been in Rapa Nui 4 years ago and I loved it just the way it were.

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 Před 2 lety

      @@cynthiamagluta4753 Well, if you only see one side of the coin, you won't see how the other side is doing. I am more concerned with the people. I don't think the culture of Rapa Nui and the imposing moais will get destroyed if you create a holistic approach to development. I'm concerned how Rapa Nuis slowly lose their language simply because there's no program that teaches or values their indigenous language and culture. The modern conveniences won't destroy their culture as long as there's a sound and well-thought of program that espouses the preservation and conservation of their culture. I heard that there are less and less natives who can speak their native language and if that happens, their own identity as Rapa Nuis will be gone forever. Because language is an identifying factor of a particular culture. With modern conveniences and institution of holistic programs to preserve their identity, Rapa Nuis wont need to live in isolation like they're not part of the world community.

    1. How easy would it be to relocate to Easter Island permanently?
    2. Can us foreigners buy property there? 3. How much would an average house/bungalow cost?
    4. If we can’t buy property, Is there property to rent?
    5. What part of the island do you live in and is it the most habitable part of the island?
    6. How quickly could we relocate there?
    7. How do you even travel there?!
    8. If we had a friend that lived in easter island, would we be allowed to just move in with them with no restrictions?
    9. Are there plans for star-link internet to be activated there?
    10. What documents would we need and who do we have to contact about getting relocated there?

      We bring them over from mainland Chile on a cargo boat. Then crane it off onto a smalll barge which brings it into the small harbour we have here in Easter Island. Then we crane it onto land. The cost is about $US5000 transport costs for a small car.

    Great story and well told. Funniest part is that you seem to expect life to be ‘normal’ when you live on a remote island with Latin American rule. 🤪

      I know right, you would think I would have super low expectations and in a way I do. but there is something quite enjoyable about complaining too... lol

      Hello, While I agree that the way Filipe acted was out of line there are many parts of Lost La Blanc story that do not hold up. I was thinking about doing a response video but I really don’t want the drama... and i don’t want to look like I am taking the side of Filipe. but the video is like seeing only side of court hearing, presented by one of the best lawyers out there (or at least one of the best story tellers). He literally makes his living from creating and telling stories.... I really enjoy lablancs work by the way and I am sorry this happened.
