I was in high school during this time so I never really took 85s to go Atlanta. Probably went 3 times a year since I live north of Atlanta. Now as an adult I try to fly through this leaving work. And especially at 2AM in the morning after leaving my gfs place I fly through this bridge since there’s no traffic 😂😂

They had to use steel beams; concrete beams would have taken 30 days to cure. The trucks were pouring Miami Mix with accelerator to set it up that fast. They probably didn't get all the truck drums cleaned out soon enough and had to trash them. The limiter was the concrete posts the whole load was going to rest on. They had a lot of test cylinders to bust before they could pour the slab and then let traffic on it.

Great. It's been about 40 years since I was last there. I think many changes..

Let's see PA beat this on the Philadelphia collapse. At least Atlanta had an advantage by using the company that built the original overpass, and they probably still had the plans.

That's actually the "old" I85, which today is the Buford Connector.
It parallels I85 from the Peachtree bridge over the interstate north to Lindbergh area, acting as a collector/feeder access road.

Ok so I-85 Caught fire under the bridge Then It was so much heat under the bridge it fell apart And that's How I-85 Colapsed

@@jacksondryer9221 Yea but what was it that was the reason for the fire? A a truck with gas that crashed or a broken gas line or what? Because concrete doesn't really self ignite.

Wonderful effort. However, it wasn't only "manpower" that built it. Hundreds of women were also involved who were essential to its completion.
