i am, despite being a gacha the gameplay looks ok, and the artstyle, animation and designs look pretty fucking great
Tbh games don't even need help being preserved, basically all games with physical copies have some locked away in a collectors vault and I don't even need to go into ROM dumping.
According to the poll they ran enough people were interested in game preservation to give this a shot.
Maybe not watching the whole vid, but to have it made at least.

The first one is on the same exact game *and* is unlisted, so either they put the ad up too soon or they made a mistake in the previous one and had to fix it.

I don’t mind channels making money, or having ads, but not for the type of mobile, greedy games that are literally ruining the industry. I will never support them with a cent of my money. These people aren’t creating beloved games, they’re creating systems to milk people out of their money.

I know this is essentially an ad and all, and maybe it is only because I like the game, but I do appreciate that you made it interesting with a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and commentary from the dev team. Chinese devs don't get much of a spotlight, so I appreciate the genuinely interesting ad*.

Hey dykg here's an idea for ya, maybe spend part of the video talking about the charity you're giving to? Maybe show the team working to preserve games? Maybe put down the clearly pre written ad script you were given and look for the heart and soul that vanished from this channel years ago? You know there's likely a contract stipulation about it being entirely focused on their product right? DYKG isnt necessarily omitting that by choice
wdym dude? This channel's got so much more heart and soul in the recent videos. It's gone from just recycling facts known elsewhere to commissioning translations of new shit, and doing some real digging. I don't like these ads, but it's weird to insult the other stuff they make because of it.
It's a shame the characters aren't in a real game, I actually kind of liked them but they were held back by being in a terrible mobile game
It is honestly pretty fun. The biggest drawback is the gacha elements but the game is designed around you getting every character, so it is easy to do so.

@@spaceowl9246 I never said it didn't. Yes, F2P games incentivize you to buy things, and the sky is also blue! The important distinction is that incentivize doesn't mean it is necessary. I don't recommend playing gachas if you don't have self control over your spending, but if you do, you can easily play these games free.

@@spaceowl9246 You were right for not believing them. It's easy to get each character once, but that's because it's a dupe-based gacha. Means your progress/strength is dependent on how many versions of the same character you pull.
Also, a single skin costs 25€ in their shop - you don't even get 10 pulls for that price. And the highest-costing package goes into the 100s of euros, while their ice breaker of course is 'only' 1,19€. Stay the fk away from the game!
I can't say I actually care about the game but learning the development is actually really fun when put like this. especially as someone looking into working in this industry

Yeah, it became more a branding decision than accurate description.
Let's just assume that the content is just the literal change of season outdoors IRL.
Suprisingly the game really isn't AFK, it is a bit misleading. You can auto combat if you want to (nearly all gacha games allow this) but its fun and engaging if you do actually manually play it. The AFK part is really just you getting paid EXP and stuff while the game is closed, as opposed to say running a domain 100 times in a game like Genshin.
@@MoonlightSkyeYesn't. Many of the game's mechanics can be automated, even the overworld traversal. Most notably however is the afk challenges to raise your rewards per hour.

There's enough negativity in the comments already, so I just want to say: I don't hate these "ad videos" like a lot of people do.
I understand that DYKG takes these kinds of deals to fund their own operations, and help with video game preservation. I understand that game developers have a really challenging time getting people to find their games, in a sea of other games, so I understand why they turn to game reviewers and aficionados to help with advertising. And I understand this ad isn't really for me; I don't like mobile games in general, so I will step back and let this ad reach people who maybe are interested in it. I don't feel like I have any cause to be angry about this.
However, if game developers are going to use videos like this for ads, I wish that instead of using the video's runtime to describe the game's basic features, they would either let the DYKG team do their own research and share their own personal thoughts, and/or let some of the artists, designers, etc. talk about things like where their inspiration for character designs came from, or real-world lore they researched to adapt to their game, or explain the core experience they wanted players to have, and how they worked at refining one specific game mechanic to help players enjoy the experience.
Most of the audience of this channel are interested in stories about game development, the general culture around video games, and obscure trivia and lore about games we enjoy. Any time a game developer wants to sponsor a video with DYKG, I think a lot of people would find it much more palatable if the video focused on those sorts of things. (Of course, some viewers will be angry regardless; there's not a lot you can do about those.)
Anyway, I just wanted to say that much.

Advertisement rules work a bit differently for US content creators - they don’t have to denote when their content is an advert. However in the UK, for example, denoting ad content as ads falls in line with consumer protection.
I'm not sure what the guy above is talking about, but yes, you do need to disclose that your video is an ad but you don't have to put it in the title or anything. They said it in the video, they also put it in the description and the comments, that's more than good enough. There just has to be some form of disclosure.

Probably. Creators don't make any meaningful money from ads. That's why sponsorships are a thing.

Most of DYKG's subs are now either- "1: Absolute bots", "2: Trolls", or "3: Really hate ads",

I get that videogame preservation is incredibly important, but shilling out for mobile gacha with "insert insane amount" pulls for downloading is incredibly low
Then here comes a passive aggressive video of them addressing it and blaming us just like they uploaded a video on mothers day and complained that it didn't get enough views a few years back

They uploaded video on mother's day like two years ago (It wasn't even an interesting topic from what I remember, but another long one on something they already did), and since people have better things to do than watching hour long game videos on that day, it didn't get as many views as they wanted.
Next day they uploaded a video where they were trying to guilt trip viewers because they didn't watch it the moment they uploaded it, and because of that it got deprioritized by the algorithm, but people clapped back, so DYKG backed down.
I don't mind ad videos but don't you think having 2/3 of the most recent videos being ads is a bit odd?

One thing they could do is upload a proper video and an ad video on the same day. It'd be harder work, but ultimately worth it.

They originally uploaded this video on April 1st, they unlisted it pretty quickly, it got the same ratio of dislikes that this video is getting.
I originally thought it was an April Fool joke because of the game title, making fun of games with AFK features, but taking it to the extreme so that it was a game where it just plays itself and you don't even interact with it. But nope, it's an actual "game"

Respect the hustle, but I really wish the companies that sponsored these videos would understand what the audience of DYKG likes: A 7-10 minute ad-roll with a handful of surface-level behind-the-scenes tidbits... isn't really it. If these companies want the most from their sponsorship, they should approach these like mini-documentaries. Put the marketing stuff in a usual up-front segment, then fill the rest of the script with interesting tidbits. Heck, I bet this video would have more watch-minutes if it about AFK Arena (sponsored by AFK Journey): at least that game is old enough there might be some neat little pieces even for viewers who don't care about either product.
its decent for a mobile game imo, but still has the major issues mobile games often have (loads of microtransactions, feeling like some progress is timegated, etc...) its a shame cuz i do like the characters and the game looks neat. but man, I would really rather not have to hemorrhage money to progress smoothly

A whole video that's just an ad is actually insane. This channel started out as just reading facts from Wikipedia, then went to actually interesting well researched videos, and now whatever this is.

I think it was just unfortunate timing, this video was unlisted for like 2 weeks and they just made it public again. Probably just a problem where they were supposed to release the video later according to their contract. Either way, I personally don’t mind cause they also just released the GBA video. It’s not like they are monopolizing their time on the ads, I can decide not to watch them, but I enjoy supporting charity.

Aside from good presentation, visuals, and great interface. There's no real "gameplay", as the game plays itself.. the story is worse than Genshin Impact's, and there's plenty of monetization stuff. I don't think it's worth anyone's time.
