Wanna know about Umineko When They Cry?
Umineko: When They Cry (Umineko no Naku Koro ni, lit. When the Seagulls Cry) is a Japanese dōjin soft visual novel series produced by 07th Expansion. The story focuses on a group of eighteen people on a secluded island for a period of two days, and the mysterious murders that befall them. Readers are challenged to discern whether the murders were committed by a human or of some other supernatural source, as well as the method and motive behind them. Umineko is the third title in the When They Cry series, preceded by Higurashi When They Cry and followed by Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru.

Have mostly the same opinion as you with the pachinko sprites, although I would've placed Erika on S as well. It's mostly the "cutesy" characters that still look great or even better in the pachinko style.
Yeah, like after finishing this whole video there may be a few characters here and there that I might've also reconsidered putting in S, like Erika. Even right now, I feel like the more I look at her pachinko sprites, the more I love them.
And yes, you are pretty much sharing the same kind of thought as me when it comes to the pachinko sprites: it is the characters that are on younger looking side that will garner better looks.
Hell, I look more at these and may start liking them more than the PS3 ones, someone stop me, lol.
Okay, the big downside however to this is that despite good looks, the pachinko has like variety when it comes to poses. The PS3 sprites have a lot of poses for Erika that I like.
Alright, I am going to give you my two cents.
Ryukishi's sprites will always stay in my heart because the very first time I read Umineko, I opted for the original. They are my favourite in terms of expression, poses, colours and general feel to them. I also particularly love the sharp shading effect, as if there is always an extreme contrast between light and shadow, which perfectly fits the atmosphere as well. Of course they are very raw drawings, but that's how I like it and I feel that they fit Umineko the best still today. The PS3 sprites are completely fine but a bit too polished and not as tasty, it's a very banal and unimaginative anime style. Whoever created those did very good homework for the VN, but still just homework nonetheless. That version still deserves praise for the very good CGs though. With regards to the Pachinko sprites I mostly agree with you, plus the Pachinko version of the VN featured very cool CGs which came up at different plot spots than the PS3, interestingly enough. At some point I wanted to try and create a version which would include CGs from both versions of the VN, but had no time to complete that project. This is a fun video, tier lists and uwufufus can be fun to both make and watch 👍🏼
A nice case of "whatever one grew up with will remember fondly the most out of all versions".

My first playthrough on Higurashi and Umineko is with the steam and Pachinko sprites (I didn't know about the console mod), i actually like some of the pachinko sprites more like with Rosa, Erika and Dlanor. I also appreciate the more tanned skin on Battler and that they added wrinkles to mature character like with Natsuhi and Eva even though it can be a bit too much. I even prefer the original Background more than the console version. Some people think that using the steam/pachinko sprites ruin the experience but that is not true. Even without the mods i can still feel the vibe, atmosphere and emotional moments in the story and it's still become my favorite stories of all time.

Not really sure. Maybe what others see as smug faces I see them as more evil faces some of the ones she does, with her teeth showing.

Yeah, this tierlist was readily available. I mean, it was either this or no tierlist maker.
About the "impostor" faces, even if they do not match the actual personality of the characters, given that Umineko presents itself as a serial murder mystery with family conspirations, I think they contribute more to the overall first impression "everyone can be a culprit". This would also explain why Will has not an "impostor" face, not by coincidence, but because when he first appears, it is already known that he is not a culprit.

It is an interesting take on it.
That the sprites are done in a more "brutal" way like Battler's and Krauss and such because of the initial nature of the family and how much darkness lied in it as we seen in early episodes. Like out of all these sprites, a lot of the ushiromiya family sprites feel like the most questionable to me whereas the rest feel decently like their counterparts.
I agree with most of the imposter feeling that most of the sprites give, for example many battler representation beside the original sprite were trying what they could to making him more accurate as possible, and I think that the PS3 sprite goes as close as that. Most of the Eiserne Jungfrau and Chiester sisters have their sprite perfected, i prefer them more than the original, but with the other I'd stick with the PS3 and original ones. Also, props to Pachinko for making a better animated adaptation of the vn

@@NobyGrand Studio Deen managed an adaptation of the visual novel; however, the sprites in Umineko Pachinko come from a slot machine-style game (which in Japanese is called Pachinko) where several scenes from the visual novel, some of the most important ones, are animated. Since text often appears on screen in Pachinko games of this kind, I found this adaptation to be more faithful to the visual novel compared to the one by studio Deen, personally of course (even though I don't despise the anime adaptation as I made it look like, it's just a shame they adapted just the question arcs)
It is weird how for the steam version they brought the pachinko sprites but not the CGs.
I think I have seen some art with this artstyle, and I kid you not, I think I remember liking BATTLER pachinko in those arts A LOT despite the imposter feel, idk how that is possible. Will have to look up again.
@@NobyGrand apparently the CGs used to be in the 07th mod, but they removed them down because people did not like them for wathever reason.

Yeee, same. The biggest downside to them being that there aren't AS many face expressions and poses as the PS3 ones.
Yeah I don't see most of the pachinko sprites as half bad either, the hate they get is disproportionate IMO.
BTW I think you need a rank lower than C to do some of the higher C justice, to distinguish from the "kill it with fire" kinds.

I guess originally I didn't want a D tier, because Ds and Fs are associated with complete garbage, and I didn't want to go into this with the idea that there would be dogshit sprites, so I went with C the lowest I guess.

Jessica- P3, Golden Fantasia is really good to, but we all know Jessatrice would be the best design if shannon would share her clothes.

I don't hate the Pachinko's art, I think it looks better in motion the little cutscenes it has look okay as long as Battler is not involved, like for real, that design would maje anyone consider the Battler culprit theory.
On the topic of Erika's age, maybe the meta would works under different rules, but if she can marry, I say she must be at least 18 years old XD, she also mentions wanting to try smoking in episode 6.

I honestly like the pachinko sprites a bit more than PS3 since the PS3 ones can be kind of bland. Some of the adults look more appropriately their age. Also they gave Erika a more impressive pirate hat!
Pirate hat looks cool on her too~ But in my eyes it is a downgrade cause the jolly roger doesn't have the chopsticks and cat-like hat like the PS3 ones...
I honestly dont mind any of the sprites in any art style. I more worry about the art style in the background.
The backgrounds? Oh oh. I don't think I remember them or seen them at all, lol. Wonder how those are like.
@@NobyGrandThe backgrounds for me change completely on how the Atmosphere, However they also change how the area looks in general. Like for the mansion inside it looks way more ghost like and airy while in the OG the updated it looks more lively
