Don't blame pikasprey fpor the faults of the developer. If he can't handle his thing being popular then maybe he shoudn''t have made a rom hack of one of the most popular game franchises, and given it a feature the fans of said franchise have wanted for years.
I am confused. Pikasprey made this video yes, but from the sound of things, ShockSlayer wasn't against and even was for the release of this review.
ShockSlayer isn't mad at Pikasprey at all and is also still working on the game.
+Basillia ton Rhomania Wow, way to make claims without any basis. You don't know wether it was this video that did it, you don't even know wether or not the game was discontinued. I don't either, but throwing blame around is completely useless. For all we know, Shockslayer could have learned from Prism and Uranium - a romhack doesn't need publicity, it needs time. And when there's a freaking website out and about, guess how much time it takes to get noticed by Nintendo-sempai? Taking down the website and doing it underground is a much better way to go about it.

This guy needs to become an official addition to the pokemon games.
Things like that make playing rom hacks so much better than playing through the base rom without. Other ways I've seen it handled were Trade Stones for those types of Pokemon (Pokemon Glazed) or simply having those kinds of pokemon evolve by leveling.

@@GundamLegacyExtreme Everyone knows Game Freak and Nintendo could give us this type of game, they just don't because that would make them a lot less money. They could implement all these changes in to the next game, but they break up these types of things in to future installments so they can seem like a bigger deal at the time and continue to profit off of further new games in the series.

It is how they realistically work they showed that in the pokemon origins series where Brock pick a team level suitable to battle red hope that info makes you happy.

Romhacks and mods are made purely out of passion. That's why they sometimes have more soul than official games.
I'm on my 4th rom hack ever and I can confidently say that a lot of these are better than the real games. Of course, there are a lot of stupid hacks but that is to be expected really.

The tradeback guy needs to become standard in all Pokémon games.
Gamefreak will never add something like that in because they want you to do that whole "playing Pokemon on the go in public and battling and trading with passerbys and members of your community similar to how school kids play physical trading card games" as that is the core idea of Pokemon and so in their mind that is the most important part of Pokemon caus if you play in any other way that doesn't involve that idea then it wouldn't be Pokemon, that's how I think gamefreak sees it

Playing Crystal Clear as of April 2021, since this video's release, there are so many more and improved things added to the game that has made it even better, and it is still being improved to this day. Please play this game if you haven't, and go back again if you have.

agreed examples are being able to start at any town in the game, you can buy houses for each town and they even added shiny chain hunting. Great game and still gets updated

I just realized, this rom hack gives gyms their intended function.
By letting the player choose which of the 16 gyms to battle first, it allows you to take the opportunity to level up the Pokemon you've captured by going after type effectiveness, which makes the gyms into actual gyms.
This rom hack officially became amazing.

I don't see how making it easier was their intended? Having to train type effectiveness to get past gyms you couldn't before is half the (intended) battle in my eyes
@@alwaysabiggafish3305 Because sooner or later you'll have to beat the gyms whose types your team would struggle against, but by allowing you to challenge them later in the game, you guarantee the team will have a more flexible moveset and items so you can strategize more around the type disadvantage.

@@scharroth6509 well it's not a wrong way to call it, Crystal already had things like expanded Viridian Forest that was left unused because cartridge memory limits, a rom version can be expanded infinitely without those constraints, in fact I've seen rom hacks for gen 3 pokemon games that almost rivalize in size with stock ds gen pokemon games.

yea im having issues with it as well; looks amazing. I always felt gamefreak half-assed kanto region. seriously if they would have not rushed it and included the safari zone, veridian forest, and cinnabar/seafoam islands, etc. (they could have did A LOT) then they wouldn't have people pretty much fixing their game. anyone still able to locate a link?

Plus, in platinum you had the option to catch a lot more pokemon than most people think. Pokeradar "Only" pokemon could be found, allowing you to even get a Gallade before Fantina.

I wish more Pokémon games were like this. The mainstream games hold your hands so much. The original somewhat did this with the middle 3 gyms, but nothing like that since.
Agreed. The freedom in this game leaves you in open water for so much of the game, and it's so refreshing. Although, now I'm doing a custom challenge let's play of it with limited PC uses, and it's absolutely brutal.
While the originals have their fair share of faults, their non linearity is one of their best features, every gym leader, other than Brock and Giovanni, can be done before or after other gym leaders

Yeah, but I still struggled with some of the later gens. I remember really enjoying Diamond when I was younger, then went off to play some of the newer releases and was surprised at how easy they were. I come back to Platinum (close enough) years later and get my butt absolutely destroyed.

Riley Nelson Why not both? There are Eevee gift Pokémon at both Goldenrod and Celadon. You don’t even have to start with an Eevee to get a team with both Umbreon and Espeon.
Hell, you could get a full team of Eeveelutions just by starting with Eevee and beating the Elite Four once. SS has set up event and gift Pokémon so they reset once you beat the Elite Four. So, you can go back to Goldenrod and Celadon and get two more Eevees after beating the game once.

The fans will do what Gamefreak doesn't. I always thought that open world was the natural next step for pokemon games, yet gamefreak seems to want to make the games MORE linear and LESS open as time goes on... how disappointing. I'll be sure to give this game a try once the follow update drops ;)
They make their games based off the adventures manga.
But think about the children cuddlesworth! How would a small child ever beat Pokemon without being told what to do? They will just play phone games anyways and anyone with long time commitment should be forgotten.
I disagree, I think the adventure game aspect of getting an item or special move to progress is an important part of the series.
I hate how linear games are but I also fear open world just as much.
Even with the improvements this has made to the engine, it does show that these games need something akin to a decent curve at least for a narrative purpose.
I don't want a visual novel but I also don't want a straight walking/battle simulator.
That was the main problem I had with Sun/Moon. Walked 8 steps? Cutscene. Turned to the left? Cutscene and Battle. Here's a mandatory, respawning wild encounter that can infinitely bring in more Pokemon making the wild Pokemon, equal in level to the Pokemon in the front of your party, the biggest threat you've faced in the last 3 hours (WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THAT A THING?).
Far far FAR too linear.
I went for Whitney first and it was so gratifying to crush her and her level 9 Miltank so easily. 😂
She was my 3rd gym leader since I went for Gary first because he was always a pain in the ass

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I've always thought that the need for HMs was a horrible mechanic. Having to carry an annoying HM slave instead of just a pokemon that you actually wanted in your team was just not fun for me. It's nice that they removed the need for them in this ROM hack.
I'm pretty sure most people weren't too fond of it either. It was annoying and in the way most of the time
I suppose, but the mechanic survived for so many generations... Maybe the japanese crowd liked it? Or at the very least, were indifferent about it.
I believe it's a way for the player and their pokemon to be connected, or interdependent. It also links the two main gameplay functions (map exploration and battles). Without HM's, your pokemon are only important in a battle.

I’m really glad you put some extra spotlight on this game. So much effort went in to make it the ultimate version of the game, I hope more people try to do something like this with other games in the series, especially nowadays when it’s near impossible to complete the Pokédex in any given older game and a fresh experience would switch it up

Wow, what a stupendous idea. An Explorers of Sky romhack with new characters, plotlines, dungeons, starters, and art would be absolutely heavenly. Maybe exploring the ruins of a human civilization? I always imagined the games were set in the far future, long after humans went away somewhere else or went extinct, and it would be awesome to see humans other than the PC in one of those games.

Enabling such deep modifications and sprite work is why I love simple 2D graphics and the long gone era.
You don't need forever to tweak a little cloth texture at the lower back of your character, you just do your 256 pixels and you're set.
The high skill entry to some assembly coding in combination with less focus on graphical fidelity lends itself to a natural filter for highly passionate people while still being capable of achieving work on par of the creators without obsessing over each and every nook and cranny.
Unity be damned; its easy to use tool box flooded us with so much shit it became hard to see the gems.
Limitations give rise to creativity.

I think the mistake that happened here was ShockSlayer distributed the hack as complete ROMs instead of an IPS or xdelta patch.
Distributing complete, runnable ROMs can get you in trouble, so only put up for download "the parts that you changed" relative to the base ROM and let everyone sort out the details of that for themselves.

@@sakuraogami6885 It's literally just another program that you run, you give it the hacked ROM and the original and it gives you a tiny patch file you can give out for everyone to use. It's not even any effort.

That would be a dope game and a fanboys dream. But to stay true to the series and include 700+ Pokemon it would be a developers nightmare...
If you added all the zones from every game it wouldnt be. As Ultra sun can handle every single pokemon ever made, its just you cant catch them all in that single game, which is where all the zones come into play

It's also available as a 3DS Cia which allows for transferring of Pokémon to Gen 7 via Pokémon Bank

It's because it's a romhack not a fangame. It's built on Crystal and Bank recognizes it as (Italian) crystal

Heh, nice. Well, I already have a box system full of a complete dex, so I won't use that function, but I'm definitely playing this on my homebrewed 3DS. Old thing's a busted-up 2011 model, but it can manage any game where I don't need shoulder buttons just fine.

alstone morales Pretty sure it doesn’t. It needs to keep the DVs the same so it can maintain compatibility with gen 1.
You can make your any of pokemon follow you by hitting select on your pokemon party screen.

Then you could either run in on an emulator OR do what I did and find a "virtual console inject" online and just install it

Coming back to this after bare-bones disappointment that was scarlet and violet is breath of fresh air. This is what an open world game should be like. Not to mention all the QoL stuff.
This rom is still hot and gettin updates with new areas.
Imo best poke fight simulator imo. Leveling on gyms is perfect.

The gym leaders set is the smartest thing ever. All these leaders are Pokemon masters, not by level but by how they train their Pokemon
This really is the greatest ROM hack I've ever played. Porygon got lots of love from me as my starter
Andy Garcia Did you evolve it? This hack lets you get to Porygon2 so quickly. I started in New Bark, made a beeline to Goldenrod, picked up Kenya for Fly, flew to Sylph to get the Upgrade, then went straight for the Tradeback guy. I also traded for the Onix in Violet to get access to a Steelix later. You can also stop at Fuschia quickly and grab Surf without any badges.
Recently, on a Nintendo group, someone asked if it would be possible for an open world Pokémon game featuring past regions and this was the first thing I thought of. Sure, it would probably take a bit more tweaking to help balance out more than two regions but still, this shows that it can indeed be done.
