Focusing on the past and feeling guilt is not only useless, but also harmful. Looking around, we can all see the harmful effects of past actions. The best we can do, and what we *must* do, is take action to rectify those harmful effects. If we avert our eyes, if we deny the harm, if we blame the victim, then that’s what should embarrass us. We’re not responsible for what happened in the past - we *are* responsible for the action or inaction of today. There have always been “white” people who fought against slavery, against Jim Crow, against injustice and inequality. If you’re one of them, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. If you’re not, if you’re complacent or complicit, then this is what should embarrass you - not the fact that you’re “white”.

What a wonderful series! I was a Southern Baptist in my formative years; but as I grew older, I developed a real distaste for ALL religions and was ready to "throw out the baby with the bathwater." It's reassuring to know that there are some Southern Baptists who still cling to the two greatest commandments of loving God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself.
I am a white man from Northern Wisconsin. My pastor was a black man from Texas. I submitted to his leadership and served him for twelve years. We had a conversation on race for those twelve years. A conversation of love and mutual service without saying a word about race. I was ordained an Elder in the COGIC in 1991. I am one of the very rare white Elders. I spent 25 years in the fellowship. During my first 12 years in the denomination I had a wonderful time while under the leadership of my pastor. After he passed I stayed for another 13 years. The latter years were increasingly difficult as I was less and less accepted. It came to the point that I was very much an interloper. Considered out of my place and not wanted. I finally burned out in ministry in 2010 and was so exhausted that I spent 3 months in a wheelchair unable to walk. To say this. That understanding the life of an interloper is an essential thing when ministering to African Americans. They are a race of interlopers. Seen as out of place and not wanted. Moral debt must and will be paid. To ignore the past will bring destruction on us. The Lord bless you.
I fully understand what you're dealing with. As an African-American who grew up in the 60s as a teen yet I grew up in a predominantly White community in California from kindergarten through high school and growing up in a mixed church. Whenever I attended an all Black church I had to dress a certain way yet at most White churches my dress was very casual because no one cared. I'm well acquainted with the COGIC. Many of their leaders/bishops in the upper echelon are impervious to change in integrating the ecclesiastical order. Make no mistake about it they have their club of "The good ole boys" too except these men are Black and not White. I feel that Bishop Blake wanted to make changes in terms of diversity but he's quite senior now and retired and the late Bishop Wilbur Hamilton who assisted him wanted to diversify the upper echelons both of them were from California. The strong Black presence are about keeping the COGIC Black which is why I have nothing to do with them. The Assemblies of God have diversified their ranks. Me, I don't attend all Black churches. The majority of my male friends are White.

Great, Great Speech. During the 2020 Presidential race I became bewildered at how so many caucasian friends I had in my non-Denominational church were such Trump pfanatics. And it lead me to do a lot of research on racism in the Church.

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it is a lie. You do yourself a disservice when you discount information without trying to validate it. God made you able to reason so reason.
Very discouraging, very demoralizing. The pulpit is to be used for preaching the gospel and encouraging and edifying the body. This was none of that and not worthy of the pulpit. No one was encouraged, no one was saved. Enemies of the gospel would have appreciated this message more.
Objection. Those who have long felt the sorrow and burden of our great national sin of slavery do feel encouraged. It's been a long and lonely road, especially during the last few years. This voice of courage and truth is freedom, just as the Lord taught us it would be.

Great, Great Speech. During the 2020 Presidential race I became bewildered at how so many caucasian friends I had in my non-Denominational church were such Trump pfanatics. And it lead me to do a lot of research on racism in the Church.

There were videos of clear election fraud yet there are people that claim there is no evidence. Obviously I don’t know what the real outcome would have been had every vote been legitimately counted but there is good reason for anyone to doubt the outcome we were given. Fit to be president? His first two years, yes. His last two, not so much.

Very discouraging, very demoralizing. The pulpit is to be used for preaching the gospel and encouraging and edifying the body. This was none of that and not worthy of the pulpit. No one was encouraged, no one was saved. Enemies of the gospel would have appreciated this message more.

I felt inspired by the unmistakable truth, thoughtfulness, and courage of his well researched message. Truth sets free. You are demoralized by it because you refuse to acknowledge the truth of it, and both the past harm and current harm that is done by unacknowledged racism. If you actually read his book, White Too Long, you would find out there are some brave people in churches and communities that are doing the work of repair, and it is encouraging - but only because they listened instead of denying. 4
