"New starter motor" shows us the Alternator.....Calvin 🤣🤣👍👍
😂😂😂😂
I drive an MGB, great car. Perfectly capable as an everyday drive. The only thing it struggles with on modern roads is the potholes. These were designed before the country fell apart.
“...before the country fell apart...” well said!
doesn't need an mot, after 40 years. classed as classic exempt. any vehicle over 40 years can have black number plates.
It says Ossely .That's a modified engine .
Yes
If the carbs and timing are spot on you'll get 0-60 in 13 secs and a top speed of just under 100mph. That car had overdrive which you didn't mention. A well sorted MGB will easily keep up with modern traffic on our congested roads and of course no road tax or ULEZ to pay!
He struggled to figure out the heating..I'm sure he doesn't know what an overdrive is.
We could learn so much from this car, todays cars require a degree a quantum physics to fathom out the heating, ventilation, sat nav, speed control, cruise control, radio etc, etc. I loved my BGT, had it for 5 years , my everyday car, drive it all over France, an used it for my work as a community nurse. Never missed a beat, the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, and it was 22 when I bought it.
I suppose that's why its good being a car trader, you never know what's going to come through the door! awesome content as usual.
I doesn't matter who they are or how exotic the cars they are used to, so many just love the driving experience of pure analogue cars of cars like this.
Great video Calvin, reminding me of all the old car terms we don't use now like 'quarter light' (small opening windows) and 'overriders' (upright chrome bumper bits) 👍😄
The choke actually 'chokes' (or restricts) the airflow through the carburettor. This makes the the air/fuel mixture richer while the engine warms up.
Choke
On some carburettors, yes you’re right. But not on the SU carbs fitted to an MGB the ‘choke’ raises the idle speed of the engine and half way through its travel it also begins to move the main jet, richening the mixture
Not on SUs. It pulls the jet down to richen the fuel mixture. No restriction like on a Weber etc.
@@cars-by-Q Only the the throttle stop screw adjustment raises the idle speed
@@SpacedOdyssey incorrect, the choke on an SU carb operates a cam which initially makes contact with the throttle linkage to raise idle speed and then begins to lower the jet hight (increasing mixture) about half way through its travel. Trust me I own and have built and set up these carbs many many times.
Top video Calv, had me in stitches, when the roof dumped on you 🤣 More of these classics mate 👏
Quaterlights Calvin.
Quaterlights...
The youth of today, they know nuffin!
Call me an old Grandad, but I love this MG GT👍
you just can't beat the old schools cars that's how we got to where we are today
I love the MGB. I had one in red about 30 years ago. I think every new driver should have a drive in something like this. It really makes you respect the car and work for any reward you might get from driving it. The seatbelt is the only safety feature and no driver aids......proper old school driving. Nice to have in the garage for a weekend blast, you can ring its neck and have maximum fun without breaking any laws!
"The seatbelt is the only safety feature.." Do you have any concept of how safety features reached the stage they are at today. What do you call disc brakes and rack and pinion steering? From the B's early days they were crash tested with the best equipment available at the time. You do realise that B/L had one of the biggest crash testing programs in the world in the late 60's/ early 70's.. We only got to where we are because of the work back then. M.G. engineers developed air bags in the early 70's, rejected by B/L bosses.
@@patrickroohan7633
To be fair I do recall all the work BL did from crash safety standards and arguably made other manufacturers up their game.
@@skylined5534 Rover did it first with the P6 in 1963. I have one in the garage. No one here knows what it is.
I have owned two of these MGB GTs both used as a daily runners and were surprisingly reliable if looked after. So much fun and anytime parked up the amount of people of all ages who would come up to me and ask/chat about it.
You can now buy custom electric converted ones.
The one you want to take a look at was the very rare MG GT Sebring race version which has wide arches and raced in the famous Sebring 12hr race.
Great video 😉
Had a couple of these. Rule of thumb is if you can see any rust on the outside there's about 3 x worse rust that's hidden. These were made in 3 sections then welded together. They rust everywhere but the worst areas are were they were joined together and in the sill area's.
Secondary windows ? That would be quarter lights 🙏
I love watching you young boys in classic vehicles!! 😂 Loved that video Cal. 😎
Actually the choke increases the fuel to air ratio not the air to fuel. It enriches the mixture with more raw fuel for starting from cold
My Dad's best mate Ray had quite a few of these over the years, even a couple of the V8 ones and the sebring , he loved them god rest his soul , my Dad done any work that needed doing on them , this vid has brought back some fantastic memories from my child hood , what a lovely car and great times , love it . Thank you Calvin 👍
Jesus, a Sebring! I like an MGB but they're the ultimate variant!
When you're in 4th gear, try flicking that big switch on the far right of the dash - it activates an overdrive unit which drops your revs down for cruising, basically giving you a 5th gear ratio :) No idea why they didn't just give it a proper 5 speed box but there you go!
I think, although I could be wrong, it works in 3rd as well.....
@@howardlake6178 That's right it should work in 3rd and 4th, however if the inhibitor switch fails, it can also technically be activated in any gear, even reverse - with devastating consequences!
There were no 5-speed RWD 'boxes made anywhere in the UK auto industry at the time. Unless I'm mistaken the first one was the the Rover LT77. My BGT here in the states is running a Nissan 5-speed. In this country, much easier to find (not to mention much lighter) than the rover 'box.
What a beauty 🤗❤️ I do love the MGB GT such a classic
Calvin u need more classics on your channel
What a diverse piece of stock Calvin.
The cars the Same age as me 😂😂😂
Your comment about basic engineer is brilliant. Where as more modern cars you can’t work on yourself nowadays , these cars you can, and it’s where a lot of us would have picked up our “spanner” skills. Great video, keep them coming.
Actually a six speed gearbox. It has overdrive on 3rd and 4th. Switch on the right marked "Overdrive" controls it
Great car. Wish they’d bring back this quarter light windows. So brilliant for a bit of fresh air. Great project car for someone too. Love it. Thank u 🙏
I’m in the US and really would love to get a MGB GT. I think they’re also appreciating over time.
Calv Calv Calv 🤦🏻That 'stick' was a perfect bit of engineering that holds the bonnet sound insulation in place 😄
Finally an MG now your talking my language 🤣 I'm a ex MG / Rover mechanic. Fantastic video Calvin 👏👏
I bet you made loads of money changing head gaskets
@@MrThegenral1 🤣🤣🤣 on the k series and T series 👌. But I love my old rovers and MG's and they are going up in price!!
Enjoying these video's more and more, you are a true legend Calvin, keep up the amazing work 😁😁😁
mgA, mgB, and mgC 2.9 litre inline 6. the small window is called a quarter light, and the 4 speed box has 2 overdrives, the switch is on the RHS of the dash, later in life onto the steering column, and then a switch on top of the gearstick.
Ha ha calvin you crack me up!! " Did you see that chavvy guy from Luton doing draggy times" 🤣🤣🤣 can't stop laughing brilliant
Haha. Top video Calvin. Loved it when the water came through the vinyl roof😂😂.
Keep up the good work.👍🏼
That wooden stick was holding the soundproofing up under the bonnet fella! 👍🏻
Great vid Calvin, crazy how cars have changed, MGB was go to sports car in its day !
love the old choke days didn't catch it right and you flooded the engine .restore it Calvin British engineering at its best would say future classic love the content
that's why you need a clotshpeg to hold it in place lmao.
Great fun Calvin! Personal CCD review favorite still your vintage Land Rover diesel, but this old MG is a good shout nonetheless. Cheers boss, awesome video✌
This is hilarious. As an MGB owner, all of this rings true. Well done!
Truthfully Calvin that is the funniest thing I've ever seen😆
Calv, that wooden stick was for the bonnet lining mate. If you look in the corners, there are wooden sticks diagonally wedged in the bonnet, keeping the lining in place. Probably why it's flapping about as it's missing some lol.
That piece was for the bottom left (O/S) I think, not gone back to look.
I remember seeing a white '76 MGB GT V8 in Kwik-Fit when I worked there as a kid, in '96/97. That's only got 4yrs on my 2006 Civic now in comparison hahahaha! Savagery.
Got a 74 and am on the 3rd rebuilt engine for her. I currently have a D9 cammed, 60 over and ported engine with a Sierra 5 speed. Great car. :) It does 0 to 60 mhp in 7 secs now.
Love these videos. My Father in Law brought the last ever produced V8 mg.
This is a sick video had me in tears so funny Calvin 😂😂😂
Calvin you legend. I thought the g whiz video could not be topped but you did it. Calvin’s car comedy! Brilliant video mate
I think the B in MGB stands for basic.
Also I believe back in the day the extra window was called a quarter light?
Love old classic cars just hope we will always be able to buy petrol for them because my old 4.2 jag loves a drop of petrol 😂
Thats a cool car. And I think the small window was for smoking through buddy. Nice video Calvin
Great video, i discovered this today and i will follow this channel! I love MGB and please do more videos about it, i want a roadster BRG MGB to every day use (im 29 years old but im crazy lol), a buyers guide video will be great !
Best thing you said was in those days you could work on a car like that you're self. I worked in the 80s for MG Spares we had them all lovely memories of MGB GT ROADSTARS MIDGET 'S did not like to drive or work on . Loved MGC & V8 and Jubilee edition MG Spares was an approved 5 Star MG Garage in Islington ran from 1980s to 92 . Happy to have had a good relationship with the classic MG in my teens
It is definitely a cool car this would be so fun to drive 🔥
Mate this is the funniest video you have had on the channel in ages. 😂
Loved seeing this old MG .. It was the car of my childhood as in my dad drove one between the late 70's till 86 ... I have been trying to trace where that car is today to see if its still on the road ..Id love to find it and buy it from the current owner or at least have a sit in it again after all these year and give my dad a surprice..I know teh reg ws XDJ 125M so im going to do some huntng.. I loved all the details you showed on the car and laughed my head off at you trying to fit in it ha ha ha My dad is a much smaller build than you so he didnt have that struggle 😂Thanks a lot for putting this video together 🚗🤗Sonique
Omg love these little MGs, Get it planet of dreams 😎
You should totally do an EFI mod on that mate, some Minilights, TLC on the paint, be sick!
EFI is not an easy mod on B's. There are kits, but it's not as simple as most other cars because of the port design on the B series engine. Cylinders 1-2 and 3-4 share intake ports.
So funny. So genuine. Cheers man 👍🏻
Those small opening windows are called 'Quarter Light Vents' very effective at giving fresh air ventilation at speed. That 'new starter motor' is a 'new alternator'!
Common problem leaking fuel tank. If you smell petrol get your guys to check it. Readily available. Easy job. It's not about the speed it's the feal and the smile it puts on people's faces.
LMAO at the " secondary windows " .. they're quarter lights.
I own two MG's. I would guess that the car is really bouncy because the shocks are empty of oil. Your riding on the springs. You have to manually add oil to each shock. Once you get the shocks squared away and go with a bigger anti-sway in the front they handle really good in the turns. Not sure why the steering is so hard. Usually these cars have pretty light steering even though they are manual.
I think the larger tyres make the steering heavier.
Haha Brilliant Calvin! I'll bring mine up when I eventually get it back.
All I can say to you Calvin is...
Welcome to real driving as I did in my youth 🤣
Alternator pictured when talking about the starter motor and choke giving more air to the carbs hahaha you joker!
My friend moved to America with her family about 20 years ago.. her dad exported both his GT’s and still has them now! Such cool cars 😎
Been looking for you uploading since I got home from work aha big up Calvin my Wednesday n Sunday entertainer 😂
Great video Calvin any chance a video on a Skoda Octavia VRS 2013-2019 please
"Keep fit window !" 😂😃😂😃😂😃😂😃😂😃😂😃
Hi Calvin another brilliant video again as always and I think you should keep it
This was one of the funniest videos I’ve watched 😂😂
Typical car dealer saying it’s got a new starter motor when it’s the alternator not a clue 😂
Talk about laugh out moment 😂 great content
Best video you've done Calvin still laughing keep them coming 😎🤗
Sick vid Calvin!!!!!
I could already tell this video is gonna be a laugh 😃
Edit: Nope. Calv getting pissed on by the roof and posh accent was the highlight 😂 always getting better my G
Fantastic! I haven’t laughed so much in ages.
Love your posts
Thank you 🙏
This takes me back in time to the 70s. Even in my younger days it was a car that you get into, but crawl out due to the low level 🤣. Plus, you felt every bump in the road
Quarterlight is the small window. Now removed as it made the cars easy to break into
This actually looked alot of fun I wanna go in one 😅👌
Perfectly made for you Calvin
Calvin you not doing draggy times with this wee belter 😄😄
Didn't know the starter motor was belt driven! These things were ahead of their time.
LOL Calvin. You sell cars. And you call a door vent..a secondary window opener 🤣🤣 lol your the best
Quarter Lights !!, The little opening windows on the front doors, Great for keeping the interior glass demisted and also If you smoke, the smoke is sucked right out of the car
You look massive in the MGB GT cal
I think the car had a four speed manual box with a twin overdrive or single .the button was on the gear knob or a flick switch on the dash to the right of the huge steering wheel
a fair review of a car designed in the fifties , it has the worlds largest car club !
Love the look of these, super cool!
That's proper clean for its age. Is it original paint and motor??
Buying an MG is never a mistake! I’ve had four.
🤣🤣🤣 brilliant video as ever just love the humour 👍👍
The small windows that open at the front ...I would call quarter lights and I think it had a new alternator than a starter motor.great video ...
Sell it on to Drew Pritchard / Paul Cowland
Yes agree with you
Nice video 😄, you should always test the rear seats of the cars that has it (like Doug) but in this case it was hard to get even to the front seat of the car.
Love it, m8s dad has one in dark green on an old J plate. Storing it as his and i think we'll be out in it for a blast at somepoint this summer 😁
You sounded as if in pain Calvin. "keep fit window" LOL the choke btw is to add more fuel to increase engine running when cold. Later in the 80's they developed an auto choke, but I always preferred manual choke. Still have one on my TR7. Then '83'ish injection (XR3i's for eg.) Great vid. you should do more of these.
I remember you could get conversion kits for the electronic chokes in Austin Rover stuff but to be honest I preferred the auto system!
The biggest issue was usually a duff thermostat. If the thermistor was giving a low reading to the ecu dueto the coolant not being warm enough even 'at temp' the little stepper motor would never fully shut off the fuel enrichment valve. The answer was to fit a very good quality thermostat and without the little bypass 'jiggle pin'! Worked like a charm!
@@skylined5534 Pre ecu days of engines with manual choke...all the way :)
Best video I’ve watched in a long time hilarious 😂
I have a 74 Roadster their Simplicity is their beauty. Have to say that rust looks a little scary. You should change the needle and seat in the carbs that's why you're smelling petrol it's flooding
Those beautiful twin, one and a half inch SU carbs. I had the same set up on a 1300 Innocenti Mini Cooper. The most fun vehicle I've ever owned. I still miss it dearly.
bloody funny mint video !!! the dripping sunroof reminds me of my old capri 2.0 litre sport !!! 😆😁🤣😂
A very entertaining video laughed all the way through it especially as I have for the last 20+ years and 1972MGBGT where the engine etc is well sorted and makes brilliant every day car keeps up with modern traffic no problem 👍👍🤣
More interesting than a standard video!
You said the right word , it s an "analog" driving experience.
When I was in the US Navy in Scotland in 1975 I had a Spitfire 1500 and friends had a TR-6, MGB, TR-7 and TVRs.
