Yes, that would be nice to see the whole day's find cleaned up at the end of the videos, other channels do that and it makes sense as a lot of the pieces have dirt, corrosion and more than one side that might be in better condition underneath.

As a teenager, my dream was to become an archeologist 😢 I love finding history. At my older age, I love hunting for the history using my metal detector and walking my creeks.
i carry an old stone native american cutting tool in my pocket. i found it in my backyard in southern california. i like to imagine someone hundreds or thousands of years ago carrying it around . it makes me think about people who lived here long ago and it makes me feel less stressed out about the present

I was just thinking the same thing. There are many other CZcams detecting channels, but the guys in them think that screaming at the tops of their lungs everytime they find the slightest thing is a way to add excitement to their videos. I like Brad's approach a million times more.

Some old wood sash windows have those thumb lock mechanisms to hold the window open at a few preselected heights. Only the flat part would be visible. That’s what it resembles, to me. The door knob was probably found next to it. Often, hardware was transferred from one homesite to another
Completely agree! I recall as a kid seeing these similar locks on my grandparents windows. Great call!

My father brought my brother and I detecting and it was about 40 yards from a old cemetery out in middle of nowhere and I found a pilgrims shoe buckle solid gold in A+ condition and my grandfather talked me into donating it to the Augusta state museum. That's where it is . Been about 37 years or so . Take my kids to see it once in a while. Archeologists and college professors from all over the world study in . And possibly do the same thing today and donate for everyone to enjoy.
I’ve seen that buckle a couple times, cool that you found it, I’ve been trying to find a site that has stuff that old for a bit now.
why in the world would they make a shoe buckle out of gold, the person who lost it was probably so distraught

The new camera is an amazing addition to your videos. As a fellow detectorist that point of view really helps scratch the itch. Your production quality is making it harder and harder to enjoy some of the other channels in the space. Keep up the amazing work.

He shows those from time to time when he does a blog. Or sometimes he has videos where he shows his work and how he cleans them up and how he sets them out. If you go through all his videos I bet you'll find some. I know you will I've watched every one of them..
I was going to give the thumbs up on the live digs before you even asked. It gives the videos more authenticity and a touch of excitement. We get to enjoy the anticipation of the find more. Good job.

That mystery button looks like the piece to the old telegraph machines they used to transmit signals/messages using morse code. I'm pretty sure those mystery buttons are the switches for the old telegraph machines for sending and receiving messages for sure. I've just seen that switch so many times in old western films and it fits perfectly with the 1850's time frame.

The roller has a function on that button type device a strip of metal probably ran through the gap, someone else mentioned window stay. Needs more research.

Those clips, I've seen something similar many may years ago on a very old farm machine.
They where recesed into the wood with a spring under them.
You pushed it in and could tighten or loosen a leather strap and when you let go it gripped the leather belt.
The ones I saw where on a static thresher machine from the late 1800's and held the stowage boxes closed.
There was a Bix on each side each with 2 of the clasps.
Don't know if they are the same item but look very similar.

I definitely liked the new footage. Also, if you are able to track down someone to connect to the trapper's tag, you might ask if the named person also smoked a pipe. They seem to be possibly of similar age.

I’m an older Vermonter now living in the beautiful Smoky mountains of East Tennessee for 8 years now. I love the milder winter weather here but miss my real home of Vermont. Watching you satisfies two things for me. It gets me into the forest and I get to watch you enjoy metal detecting which I always wanted to try. I think the new camera is going to work out well although it may not always be aimed correctly. The new camera was great. The shoe buckle, corset buckle and sash buckle were probably from the same lady. The sash buckle was beautiful and my favorite find for you today.

I have been watching your videos for quite some time and have always loved both your photography and your extensive knowledge of the treasures you discover. Having the extra camera adds another element and something more...your commentary while you are going through the complete process is perfect and, to me, makes the videos more complete...

Oh, Brad, bringing back memories. 50 years ago, married a lady from Newport while living in Hawaii. Spent a few weeks in a number of summers on Lake Seymour, and skied Jay Peak a few times in the Winter. Maple syrup, sugar on snow, walleye and perch fishing, vinegar on French fries, Cabot cheese, wonderful people...😊

The extra angles are great. Ever think about a tripod though? In that way you can dig the target with you in view and dub in the close up once you recover it. In any case, just videoing your hunts is always great. You really found some amazing items there. I hope you are going back and hopefully locate the home site.

Extra camera probably not worth the trouble. Your metal detector show excels because your don't do a lot of tedious digging on camera. The historical background, the cleanup and the enthusiasm for the objects found is much appreciated. I have learned a lot about VT from your show, even though I attended UVM and should know some stuff.

Just a thought, when talking about older clothing, maybe on one of your trips you could visit someplace like Colonial Williamsburg and have the people there show the differences, similarities, and the styles of clothing of those earlier times? Keep doing what you do.

The buckle piece you found I see it attaching with another side that would match the square piece, connecting underneath the round I can't think what you call them floral peace and center. As a woman that's how I see that belt buckle closing. It's beautiful.

I did what you are doing for over 30 years, and the way I found treasure hunting was a total accident.
A guy came into my shop and we were talking and he said he had the White's Metal Dectecting store in town.
I stopped by and was blown away by his displays of what he had found and the old 5 gallon glass water bottles full of coins.
I was really interested after that but wasn't sure if I wanted to part with that much money at that time.
He sold me an older used, White's detector and told me to use it for 60 days.
If I brought it back in 60 days, he would give me my money back or allow me to get a better machine, and what I had paid would go to the new one.
You can't beat a deal like that, and the rest is history.
I found way over 10 times what I had invested in my equipment.

Another upvote for the new camera! That conical bullet does indeed look modern. I used to hunt with a .54 muzzleloader in Southern Vt using those bullets. Heck, it may be one of mine,lol.

Looks like a latch for a window. Old houses had those to hold windows shut. It had a lever attached to it. I could be wrong. Excellent video! Very calming
I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and wanted to comment on the bullet you found. If it measures around .457-.458 diameter and weighs in the neighborhood of around 400-410grains I believe it is from a 45-70 caliber cartridge. This caliber was very popular in the late 1800's through today. A number of firearms were made to utilize this cartridge.
I’m living in an 1885 house in a small town in northern PA. My house still has those white porcelain interior door knobs in use. I try to maintain as much original interior hardware as is practical. Take it home and use it! It’ll never break.
Perhaps you could do a follow up type video of your favorite finds all cleaned up and polished... That would definitely be cool.
I like this new format a lot, BUT I love your photography between digs. It has always been my belief that what nature produces has so much more intrinsic beauty. Please keep it all.

I like this format much better than the former "hey look what I just found" format.
As a fellow detectorist, I am interested in seeing and hearing the coil swing on targets as well as the digging. I wouldn't mind if you mentioned the numbers from time to time either. Thanks, beautiful videos.
My family lived in a house in NH. After some research we found it was built around 1788. The windows were double hung. The upper sash was fixed. There was a thumb latch like the one you found that pushed in so the lower sash could slide up and down. They both had eight lights.. Sadly a month ago the house burned down. I don't how or why--it was empty, but it's sad that it's gone. I do have a metal detector, but haven't done much with it. However, I spent a summer in Vermont digging holes under power lines. We were doing artifact clearance. I use to smoke a pipe in the woods to keep the black flies away

Brad, I used to watch you religiously, but you had fallen off my feed. I loved seeing you again! I like the 3rd camera ok, but it didn't make that much of a difference for me. What I missed today was seeing the sash buckle and the coin all cleaned up. If I remember correctly, you used to do that regularly. That is far more interesting, IMHO. Love ya from a fellow native Vermonter!
I cleaned up and painted a tenant farm house (place where the farm hand lived) in the early 70s. I found so much stuff in the layers of that place. One that I still have somewhere is a 1800s quarter. Not in particularly good condition by I like it. I also found a bread bag full of pot. Not antique, it was stuffed under the board floor section of the house that extended into the woodhouse (that had a dirt floor) off the kitchen (the last residents were "hippies"). The place was old enough to have been heated by wood or coal and lit by oil lamps. It may have been the original farm house to the property. The timbers in it were all hand hewn. The floor and wall boards were very wide and rough sawn.
On the nearby property my family lived was where the farms dump had been. We found so much intact blown glass, seamed and colored glass, pottery. I cant't ever remember it all. I found a 5 gallon stoneware crock that I sold to my folks and they put it back into service (I was born a bit of a profiteer. My Dad fully supported it, to a point). It didn't have a lid, which was probably why it was thrown out. I think the side of the rim was chipped but only on the outside. We fermented blackberry shrub in it. That I got to try for nothing. Life isn't fair like that.
It really is worth digging all the sites, 2 of the best finds from an uncertain tone/spot.

Love every video you make, it’s how you find an everyday item and produce a story about how that item got to where you found it and a story if when and how…..fancy a trip out with myself and my wife dectecting in the South Wales England you would love it and can’t imagine the stories you would make over a Roman or Celtic coin or a medieval ring or maybe a hammered silver coin…..keep making those videos and telling those stories please…

Brad, I'm a fan of the extra camera, not too jarring or disorienting at all. It also fills in some gaps, and in most cases allows us to be there for an authentic first response. I've always loved your videos but this new dimension makes them even better. Fantastic finds! Cheers!
