  • In the third part of my Building Big series, I take you through the basic steps of my large scale building process. These include: Stock Preparation, Construction, Preliminary Shaping, Sculpting, and Finishing & Detailing.
This is a broad stroke overview, but in Parts 4 and 5, I focus more closely on some of the specific techniques I use, so be sure to check those out!

im curious how do you load those big boys into the kiln?

With a small lift and a good deal of help! First we elevate it to the level of the kiln shelf with the lift, then a few people brace the shelf while 2-3 others slide/walk it on. It's kind of a stressful process tbh.

can you do a video of you adding color to your darlings? (i would say "glazing them" but i dont know your process). Thank you

I paint the big ones, but I also make small, slip cast porcelain versions that I spray with underglazes. You can see quick documentation videos of both of these on my tiktok, but I'll also try to get some more in-depth videos up here eventually (I have a lot of content I'm working on now while also preping a new class and trying to make work...one thing gets in the way of another, you know).
