      It is so hard to live in a construction zone. My childhood home was a blank canvas (I'm talking completely empty with no walls or proper flooring) when we moved in and it's been nearly thirty years and there are still projects that aren't done. I mean, every family is different and I'm not saying they won't finish, but it's sooo stressful.

    We did some of the same things that you guys are doing. We RV'd full time for a year and bought a fixer upper when my son was 13 and girls were 1 and 2. Please take this part to heart- if you're going to do this then please stay put after its done - permanently. I say this to you with love. I have an gypsy soul like I think you do, and after a year of exhausting sweat, blood, and tears labor we abandoned the fixer upper because it just wasn't going to work no matter how hard we tried.
    This did a number on my son. I think he began to not trust our decisions and resented us. I think teens can deal with a lot if they know in the end it was all worth it, that there's something to show for it, that there is a reward for their struggle. They can look upon the family home with pride when they come to visit because they know they helped create it. Remember, when they are doing hard work around the house, they are just as invested as you - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
    This is still a sore spot for my now 24 yr old son.He didn't choose to buy that house - we did. And he paid the price in so many ways. Please, please, please closely examine your heart. Do whats best for ALL of you. I know that's hard when you want something so bad, or you need new content for your channel. Please remember you only have so much time with your children when they are young, once it's gone....it's gone. Don't waste those precious years on needless struggles if you can help it. Much love to you all.

    I have been following you guys for a while and you seemed quite happy in the rental.there is plenty of room for everybody, plenty of room for all of your arts crafts and building. And the kids are not right on top of each other. At this stage they really need to have a bit of space so they can learn to grow as individuals and not be right on top of each other.

    • @TheJuiicymelanie

    • @Elizabeth-rq1vi
      @Elizabeth-rq1vi Před 4 lety +9

      Being “on top of each other” is opportunity for growth as individuals & learn to truly live with other people. They will be better people for it. They also have a huge yard & moderate temperatures during the year so they don’t have to be inside for long spells of time. Their children are no stranger to change & close quarters. Excessive space can be a detriment to healthy development.

And then of course the garages for your projects. It’s just absolutely gorgeous! You guys can always tinker with the rental if you bought it, especially if you rent the tiny home and have supplemental income. I feel like going to the tiny house people will lose their individual spaces. And the kids seem to enjoy their space and backyard SO much in the rental!

      the backyard in the other house is huge and they are so excited to be right close to town. As they are getting older they can be so much more independent and ride bikes to town on their own, etc. they all share rooms right now, so that won't be hugely different, and also, do you know their money situation? That rental house is huge, with lots of land too, it's probably super expensive! Why are we criticizing people for being practical and careful with their money?

    Hello, I have been following your channel for a while, but did not comment before. You are so inspirational for me. Think you will manage with smaller house. Just as you said, the average homes in the rest of the world are smaller than what you guys used to, and that smaller house is very normal sized for the most of the people. You are a a big family, but I like the way you are thinking about house like a live project, and a part of the family, so even though you will be crowded in there at first, you will adjust that space to your needs and modify it as you go. That is a higher goal. What is important, is that you seem so excited, and just the way you have found a studio is really a sign. Wish you all the best on your journey, always happy for you.

    My husband and our family own a small construction company the does drywall, stucco, plaster, decorative finishes, painting and concrete counter tops. The business just had its 20th anniversary! That said, we and most of the other family owners of the company have lived in our homes for 20 plus years (our personal home is just under 1,800 square foot). We have all done exactly what you’re proposing. Our home was a plain cookie cutter house, all white and beige. We have transformed each room as we could. Other family members have built their own additions and increased as they needed to for their families. My advice, on a professional level, is to hire the drywall, plumbing, electric and structural aspects to be completed. (You don’t have to do all the additions at the same time. Expand how you need to for now then add on more later.) Do the rest yourself! Experiment, have fun, make it yours. Being in your unique situation, you could get the majority of work done before moving in. Your family does well in small spaces and you’re creative in finding ways to make life and space work for all of you. Good luck!

      Sooooo nice to read an uplifting, encouraging and expansive message like this. I agree with you 100%. I also think Megan is a visionary, and exciting rewards and growth come from this for their entire family. I also agree re house size too; much of Europe is the same way (I'm in the U.K. but spent several years living outside of Brussels). The Tiny House Movement is real and thriving, and this home might be small by U.S. standards, but it's not by many other countries' norms; there is freedom (and a lot of saved cash to invest in other life experiences!), ironically, in living in a smaller space.

    • @Being_Bohemian
      @Being_Bohemian Před 4 lety +1

      Plus they have an absolutely huge garden (back yard) to expand into! (Maybe this is by European standards again...). All said, it seems like a calculated risk very much worth taking.

I think the idea of doing all this is great, but is it practical with 7 children living in the house? Also if you're doing renovations, how will you keep up with doing youtube, dotera, the store you just opened, and everything else you all do? idk just things to think about.

    If you take away the long corridor wall and make that half bathroom into a full bathroom with the door to the corridor (which will no longer be a corridor) you will end up with the bathroom door leading out into the living room. That doesn't give any privacy for people using the bathroom when they want to get back to their bedroom in a towel, for example. I would leave that long corridor wall for now. Or, make the half bath into a full bath but as an en suite to that bedroom and put the girls in there, or you. If you want to keep your options open you could keep the wall against the corridor free from fixtures so you can open it easily at a later date. You could also use the RV as an extra shower or accommodation/office space for Elijah and Daniel when they're home.

    Yay! How exciting! I love the little tender mercies God sends me. Im an avid garden at have flowers that I got for Mother’s Day, my favorite kind ever, and they weren’t doing well. I was so sad, and wanted to get some more, but wasn’t sure where I could find them. Yesterday when we were downtown I went the wrong way on the freeway, and I was bummed because we just wanted to get home. I. realized we were very close to one of my favorite nurseries (that is 45 minutes away from us!) and so we went to it, and they had the very flowers I wanted in the exact color I wanted them in. Total testimony builder- Heavenly Father wants us to feel joy!

As long as the kids and you think y'all will be okay with the potential stress of living in a small home while under construction and you clear with your county/city what renovations they allow while a home is being lived in (or if you're allowed to live in the RV during some of the major renovations), I'd say go for it. I can't wait to see where all God continues to lead your family.

In Corona times there is now the only time we get to do Homeschooling in Germany. With teachers sending tasks online, zoom meeting for the whole class. I love the courage and faith its gone work out that you have, you've been doing so many things, travelling. What I sometimes feel said about is that Eve doesnt get more help on language, speeking. I'm looking forward to seeing how you change the little house. I've always firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. When we needed to move because our lease was up we were having a hard time finding somewhere else that met our needs. We looked at so many places and I was getting frustrated. Finally I went on kijiji (Canadian Craig's List) did a posting of what we needed etc. I was called 20 mins later from a spectacular couple who just bought a place they were going to place up for rent. We went to look and it was amazing and pet friendly for our beloved beagle. It's been 3yrs and we are as happy as can be. We have a spectacular relationship with our landlords (both are police officers in our town). I'm always stressed when things are happening but it always seems to work out for us. 💗💗💗. Ps I can totally see you doing painting classes in there. There is a shop near me that teaches paint/stain projects and the owner just signed a deal with a popular chalk paint brand and will be sell the products etc. That would be amazing 😀

    Since we're on the subject of "taking the leap" we bought 40 acres in 2017 and built our farm from the ground up over three years. We sold our 2,000 sq foot home and lived in a class B motorhome for 6 months while our manufactured home was built. We now live in 1600 SQ feet and are over the moon about our life we live in the country now. We paid out of pocket as we went and made it work. I'm still amazed at how far we've come in 3 years. It goes by quick Meghan, don't worry 😉. Plus, you have to keep in mind that when all is said and done, your older children are going to grow up and start families of their own with occasional holiday visits one day, so with that in mind, picture the home that works for now and one day as empty nesters. Just a tip from someone who also figured it out and still is day by day. 😊

I just love how you can teach your children that whatever size your home is gonna be it will still going to be fun, filled with love and memories! I personally think that moving to the tiny house will open the kids’ minds as to how much work you need to put to be able to make a great home. I think this is a great opportunity to them to realize what they want for their future house. And as much as they need a privacy, I think this is the best time to have a sister or brother by their side. Puberty can be a little scary, you know. When they’ll turn 18, they’re pretty much on their own. So, I think they’ll have a great time and memories together. Have a great time creating your yet again little haven! I’m 3rd of 8 children - grew up in a 3br 1 bath twin home (some states call it a duplex, two houses side by side). It was about 1000 square feet with an attic space. Eventually when I was in high school we renovated and put in an extra bedroom and bath upstairs but we had a girls room, a boys room, a galley kitchen, a tiny dining area, and a tiny living room. We regularly sat on the floor to watch tv or play. And we shared one bathroom. Looking back, my mother was super organized, she staggered bath times/showers (older kids in the morning, younger kids shared bath in the evening.) We all pitched in and had weekly chores - sharing cleaning, cooking, helping with younger kids. It wasn’t easy. It was tight quarters. But it was doable! And we lived there when we renovated (when we did the kitchen it was paper places and microwave or grill!). Again, won’t be easy but you’re creative and organized folks - you can totally do it - you lived in an RV!
