In the old days take away food was sold in banana leaves which were just thrown on the ground. No problem, but the problem is plastic bags don't break down and go back to nature. So consequently in Thailand where ever you go there's plastic bags, bottles and rubbish everywhere.
Having taught in the education system on and off since since 1980 it never ceases to upset me to see how Thai students throw rubbish everywhere without a thought about the consequences or the environment. There may be a rubbish bin a few paces away but most of them will throw it on the ground.
The majority of Thai parents will not ask their children to pick up the icecream wrapper they've thrown on the ground.
Thailand is a beautiful country and its so sad to see rubbish thrown everywhere.
I remember being in Nong Khai in a lovely restaurant on the banks of the mighty Mekong River eating Nam Neung a few years ago. Such a beautiful serene place but when you looked down at the banks they're covered in all kinds of rubbish.
I certainly hope it's going to change but unfortunately I don't think it will.

@@gray2942 You are right litter is a big problem. It's a problem everywhere (in the world) isn't it? Some people go out of their way to take stuff home/use a bin, others just discard it without a care in the world... Back in the UK during lockdowns/reopenings people flocked to beaches and mountains when they could, but many left rubbish behind, I don't get it 🤷‍♂️ Some festival goers buy cheap camping gear and just leave it all behind, one use consumerism, and leave it for someone else to clear up 🤬 Education needs to start at an early age, parents teaching good habits and life lessons before kids even get to school. Saw a vlog about that recently 😉 You can't change the world on your own but you can change your little bit of it 🌍

As usual a interesting and informative blog, the livestock expansion is going well, as a Beekeeper I have at times only invested in a few chickens and a veg/fruit plot. Hope to expand upon that when back in Pai later this year as we want to build an bigger orchard and teak plantation (not that I will see that outcome lol)
Totally agree with your view on schooling, as a kid many years ago the UK school classes involved many varied subjects that are hardly seen now (bookmaking/binding - basket making - enameling - pottery - metal and wood working (we made crossbows whilst the teacher made black powder muskets you will not see that nowadays! ) we did lapidary and build a loom )
this along with a mother who was brought up on the moorland heights of Yorkshire and insisted we were involved in both helping with cooking but being able to cook, sew, darn, knit, iron and be aware of the limitations and value of money.
All of which help when in the military as your mum ain’t going to iron your shirt for you !
Many in the UK have little idea of where food is sourced and if the power is lost how to cope, we once ate seasonally, now we expect strawberry’s all year !
Great family and that in its self makes you a rich man.
    All the best 👍🏼

Cows are herd animals and should never be alone. Just like horses and other herd animals, they develop depression and mental problems from being alone. They need to socialize with other cows. Imagine being by yourself and never getting to socialize with other humans, imagine what that would do to your mental health? That's the same thing that happens to a cow and on top of that they don't feel safe when alone.

In Thai schools students learn by the rote method of teaching. Copy from the board, repeat after me, don't ask questions of the teacher.
Otis is a bright young lad, inquisitive and adventurous but down the track he'll need to be educated in the UK.
My 3 children attended primary school for a short time in Thailand and we then moved back to Aussie to ensure they had an education that actually promotes critical thinking, questioning and life skills.

I must say I agree with what you said about education. I was one that fell through the cracks in the second grade. I developed nasal polyps and it made me sniff. During reading class my teacher set me outside because it irritated her so I didn't learn how to read. From that point on I suffered in school geting C's D's and F's except in music my one joy in life.
Finally as a junior in high school I taught myself how to read and couldn't stop. When I went to college I got straight A's and was on the Dean's list every semester. I spent 10 or so years in college and graduated 7 times. I just hungerd for knowledge.
I worked in a government lab in Salt Lake City Utah but had to retie early on a medical after my 4th back surgery.
I came to Thailand in 2006 and moved here in 2007 I would spend 9 months here and 3 months with my mom each year until she died in 2016 at 98 years old. I have been in Thailand full time ever since.
If I were to ever have kids I would have never sent them to the school system that I went through. They would either be home taught or a private school that had the same values that I have. What I would really like to see is neighborhood's get together and form their own school like a Charter school or just a neighborhood school with 2 teacher's and no more than 30 students.
I am a new subscriber so I will be watching your channel as time permits.

Your wife's drink looked so yummy. She is lucky probably never gains a pound and can eat or drink what ever she wants and she is lucky for sure. Your teaching skills are what works wonderful for your family. I wish my grandson could learn more in high school about life skills, other than what is taught from a book. I teach him about life from what I know and my experiences. It is wonderful that you spend time with your wife without all of us. We watch you because you are your own persons and we are blessed to be part of your life. Thankyou

You have a lovely family. I agree with your view on education. It has become a cookie cutter system where we are building robots instead of leaders and independent thinkers. I have a 22-month-old granddaughter and, since music was always a big part of my life (I played guitar and sang with bands in the past), I have always tried to instill that love of it in her. From the time she was crawling, she has been touching and trying to strum my guitars and after she started walking she has become a dancer. We need to encourage kids in different aspects of life so they are able to make sound decisions in the future. I'm sure Otis has a bright future in front of him. Cheers!

I agree with the Plumber, Damo has a wonderful nature and it shines out in her smile and children need much more than just a classroom. I find your comments poigniant and the little ones are pure artistic potential that all to often a rigid system that is overly authoritarian only tends to stiffle. It's not just art, it's the ability to question and think laterally and see new roads. As adults we ourselves often become victims of fixed perspectives, opinions, habits and beliefs. I guess with all things, there's an opposing balance of forces where common sense and creativity find a sweet spot for each individual, we all love harmony, but a well placed dicordant note gives things a nice jazz feel and some zing. To much discord is jarring, to much practicality can be dull. A full life is a gift no one can give, though parents might make a door, while all to often uniform conformity and fear can all to quickly steal a life, leaving just an obedient robot behind, or an anti social rebel.
To me it seems explotive. There is freedom and we can all be how we want, but there is no substitute for care, kindness and love which cannot be taught so much as shown and gleaned. The State does not love children, it eats them and turns them into victims and slaves, or perpetrators and rulers as far as I can tell. Yet only in individuation, self worth and self understanding can the value of freedom, intelligence, common sense and inspiration be found and that, is everything the State hates because it means self empowered independence. I choose to lend my attention and power to those people and ideas I wish to see flourish and the State is for the wards and souls lost at sea which is exactly what the Roman legal system teaches because they mark people as persons and fiduciaries of the Crown Cest Qui Vie trust unaware of their true birthright on the Holy See. It's brilliant, bizare a two edged sword and a model or map. One most people have no idea about, yet it forms the backbone of our world of trade and commerce. If we teach children well, we can have anarchy, I don't mean a lawless chaos, I just mean we can have rules, yet don't need to have rulers. Form is to function ! But a wild ego doesn't like that because its a formless non existent concept that does not realise the power of spirit it weilds and does not realise itself, therefore does not learn from it's own actions very well. It needs rigid structures and the idea of external authority, I guess that's why psychopaths / sociopaths like corporate worlds and society with all its fakery and room for manipulation. A more rounded mind might understand all that, yet see value in a more earthy grounded approach where everyone and everything is ultimately an extention of you in your awareness, just as your hand is out there on the end of your arm doing stuffs in your vision or awareness. Only people can glean that, the State is not alive and cannot, it is just a total illusion, but one that gains life by peoples belief and service to it. We are one, like it or not, aware of it or not. Your little video really got me thinkin today. Thanks.
