Nice comparison review! One thought: some IR thermometers have different settings for different surface materials. For example, a chromed exhaust pipe will have different emissivity than a copper pipe. Not sure, but that may account for the greater variance you saw with the ice pack (or maybe they're just more accurate at higher temps, like you suggest) Either way, if I needed another thermometer, I'd spend the $20 on it after watching this.
Good point. I hadn’t considered that (nor read the instruction manual!) anyway, any of these should be sufficiently accurate to tell if your motorcycle engine is about to melt down. For $20, I don’t think you could go too far wrong.
