One of my favourite things about Jayce's character arc. He's the most pure and naïve character so everyone walks all over him. EVERYONE uses him at some point. Manipulates him, confuses him, makes him feel less, makes him feel powerful or stupid.
Yet no matter how many try to capture his brain as theirs he still always ends up at Viktor's side.
In the battle of Viktor vs anything else, Viktor wins. Jayce always comes back, tail between his legs. Makes me feel like Viktor makes him feel safe because he doesn't have huge expectations. He's fine with Jayce just being himself.

It's more over how much trust Jayce has on Viktor, it's the reason why he sometimes makes bad decisions thinking "oh, Viktor would understand" when Viktor is in disagreement of his decisions
Actually that's sort of the plot behind Viktor, when Jayce starts to shift into stardom he is the first to notice that he is being manipulated by Mel, and Viktor starts to sort of betray that trust as much as Jayce has
It's not until they both realize the reality of their situations at the cost of someone's life where they try to fix the problem*, both knowing it has gone too far
Edit: Viktor stopped the bomb because he knows Jayce put trust on him to study it under his hands, its the only thing that made him snap back to reality, they both believe in loyalty

@@arminarlert6011 sadly its not really „out of nowhere“ if you count the times Mel said stuff like „I‘m only interested in him“ (idk if she said exactly that but it was in an early episode of act 2) BUT ! big but ! you can also see those interactions as them only having physical attraction to one another, which is why I (and many others) felt so robbed because there could have been a perfect romance right there but we didn’t got it with season 1 😭

Honestly, I took his determination in the last few episodes as him desperate to save himself. Far from me to say he doesn't want to save the city, but the Hexcore was so important because it could save him, mostly.

The sex/hextech scene.doesn't show jealousy, it shows the paths each will take. Jayce will get more involved in politics while Viktor will get more into science/hexcore. And it also shows that something new was born from the Hexcore

I think what's so charming about Viktor is that even tho he is crippled and from a destructive environment his morality still remained and acted on his ambitions to do something important and not just vallowed in his pity about his circumstance while he has every possible reason to. He has an ideology about moving forward! And to live with his words "There's always a choice".
Edit: an important addition is that he doesn't do all this to get away from his problems but to solve them
One of the things that hurts me is that Jayce KNEW that Viktor was from the Undercity, Viktor tells Jayce this after the interrupted suicide. He knows this well enough that he understands that Viktor’s condition is due to his upbringing in the undercity. But when it comes down to it, Jayce doesn’t categorise Viktor as someone from the Undercity, merely someone exposed to the conditions of the Undercity. And when Viktor points out that he IS a child of the Undercity, Jayce is faced with the reality that not everyone of the Undercity is as bad as he was told they were.
The animators really went ham on Viktor’s comedic timing. His expressions and abrupt but light movements were my favorite part of all his scenes.

To be honest when Viktor was first introduced I thought he might be a cunning character, similar to Mel interested in what they can get out of Jayce. But then I realised both actually really care about helping people more than stepping on others. I really love both characters, Viktor is such a comfort character, he deserves attention and care. Mel is also such a queen, I just want to see her succeed, I never felt like romance is her goal, it's being a good leader.

I remember rewatching the show and getting absolutely crushed when I realized that you can visibly see Viktor's physical and mental state deteriorate as it goes on. For example, 2:42 Viktor isn't leaning on his cane and has it hooked on his arm, his posture is much better, the lighting is warmer and he has practically no dark circles under his eyes. However, as the show goes on, his cane evolves into a crutch and he can't go anywhere without it, his figure becomes more hunched over, his face becomes more gaunt and he's always in a darker light. (The lighting is more of a thing that's consistent with the whole show, but I still wanted to mention it) These details also happen so subtly, which is why I didn't notice it until I was able to compare the Viktor in the end to the one in act 1. It just goes to show how much attention to detail the animators put into this show and it definarely benefits from multiple watchthroughs to catch details you may have missed before. It may seem pretty obvious, but during my first watch I was just focused on how pretty the animation, art and characters were 😅

god i barely see anyone talking about this but at 13:08 viktor's little "...what difference does that make?" sounds so unguarded/vulnerable to an extent. like he thought maybe there might be an actual reason to be cautious outside of the typical topsider prejudice. he'd expect it from anyone else, but jayce? i think the reason we see viktor's pov when jayce is saying it is to emphasize the moment viktor begins to lose faith in his friend/the position he's aligned himself with. jayce is starting to sound like all those people who looked down on him for his origin/disability, and from there he starts to regard jayce like a stranger - not looking at him, giving him short, clipped answers. Not letting him help when he's obviously struggling. This is the moment jayce stops being a place of comfort for viktor, and the scene where jayce is honestly considering turning their shared dream into weaponry is the nail in the coffin. they're still friends, but that sense of trust will always have something missing. that is unless they actually do get together and jayce does some serious groveling

Something that is a bad/good trait of Jayce is the fact anyone can convince him of anything. He will listen and question. Then he will most likely he follow it then turn around and back tract. Can’t wait till Jayce can learn to have his own decision making, yet still listen to all sides.

As much i love this ship, I couldn't empathize with how Jayce turned out to be before the last episode. Man legit having his head high while his sick and slowly dying friend is doing most of the braining in the back with little to no recognition

damn gotta love everything about viktor. accent? beautiful. hair? astonishing. eyes? gold. ideals? the best.
Dont get me wrong, I really like Mel, shes a complex character (especially towards the end of the season, where her past is explored more) and a beautiful design but I find the pairing of Jayce and her a little....unnecessary? I feel as though it's the cliche of pairing two hot people together for the sake if it. There's one or two scenes where theres a slight hint of chemistry between her and Jayce but nothing compares to the chemistry and bond that Jayce and Viktor have. It was a missed opportunity. I also find the side plot(if you could even call it a plot since she gets 3 scenes of dialog lmao) with Sky and her death also unnecessary..
Edit* (spoiler kinda)I can also understand that there obvioulsy wouldnt need to be a romance between the two! I mean in LoL lore Viktor does eventually lose himself and his main goal is science and EVOLOUTION it's highly unlikely he'd be concerned with such a mundane thing as love....HOWEVER, the way that Arcane showed their relationship of each other is a little 👁👁 and a lil side plot of a love triangle between Mel,Jayce and Viktor would have been fun, give it a little distracting from the main story. But I mean they already did some queer relationship between Vi and Caitlyn, so I highly doubt we will ever get any romance between Jayce and Viktor, for the sake of story telling and for the sake of appeasing the public (which is stupid, shows these days seem to forget that more than one queer relationship in a show can exist, however thats just the way -^-)

I agree, in the beginning Mel seemed to only see Jayce as entertainment and something easy to manipulate. Its still kinda like that but I feel as though she is starting to see that Jayce has the same mindset as her when she was young, before she was corrupted by politics. Honestly I feel like they would have been better off as friends. They definitely need more development instead
Its meant to show jayce going against viktor and choosing politics over their goal of science. Its amazingly well done actually, since while viktor is suffering, and its been made clear that viktor wants nothing to do with politics, it shows jace literally _in bed_ with politics.
same. Putting Viktor out of the picture, Mel and Jayce being together just made me uncomfortable. I like them separately, but Jayce being the naive, easy manipulated guy he is, and Mel who constantly pushed him towards the more political side of things.

7:02 he was so frustrated cause he knew he didn't have a decade, he doubted he had a couple years. he wanted to make change, wanted to improve lives before he died, to make his life have some sort of meaning. you can see it hit him that it may not happen, that his life was 'useless'.

I love Jayce and viktor and would not be sad if their relationship became romantic. I feel like at this point in the show they love each other but jayce has a more familial love while Viktor’s could be more romantic. I loved Viktor’s arc in this series and watching this video really highlighted how much Jayce’s choices impacted viktor
