Under NY rules, a judge has to recuse if a close relative stands to benefit...
That's not what New York rules state. She has to be involved in some facet of the case.
The trial exists independent of her. That she works for a company that raises money for Democratic candidates, and that the candidates state that Trump is under trial, isn't a facet of the case. She's not involved in any facet of the case against Michael Cohen.

Just for you info, when the judge was first assigned to the case, and the Trump lawyers first filed a recusal request months ago, judge Merchan even took the extra steps to actually go before a official judicial ethics review board and ask them of their opinion. The examined all the facts, and they all said there was no conflict or reason for recusal.

It is happening everywhere, go make a legal mistake and an overly ambitious prosecutor will use shake legal theories, as in this trial, to build a criminal case against you. Then piling up dubious criminal counts to secure a conviction, as no jury is likely to dismiss all criminal counts out of 27 of them or so.
Why don't they just file an ethics complaint against this judge now and appeal his denial of the dismissal!

When The judge starts charging people with crimes based on the feelings what his daughter and the public feels, we know then the judicial system has gone out the window.
It has, even compared with communist nations this is awful. Say someone steals a car in China: He will be charged with one criminal count, car theft. In the U.S., an overly ambitious prosecutor will dig into all available codes and through some shaky legal theory he or she will gather dozens of criminal counts to make sure a jury finds it nearly impossible to dismiss them all. Thus a conviction is secured beforehand, isn't this totalitarian?

The Appellate Court should in this case, step in , and set a legal precedent that this type of Prosecutorial misconduct , and Judge confliction will not be tolerated by the state,, moreover, the American Bar Association should also step in , and put a stop to this ( banana. republic) trial, this is unconstitutional by any measure, Alvin Bragg should be disbarred , and the judge disciplined .
