Curious about that elevator. Don’t know much but understand that California state law must require particular illumination on buttons? Why do you suppose that elevator is in the middle of Iowa? Wonder if the chain swaps out parts across the nation or some such.

Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy your stay here, it's a nice hotel. As for the elevator, California Compliant buttons are required to protrude out from the panel, they cannot be flush mounted. Many elevator companies will install the fixtures anywhere, but oddly KONE (the brand of elevator seen here) only typically installs them in California. My guess is the hotel had a third-party company replace some buttons and the CA-Compliant fixtures were what the repair company had ordered.
