- Having a Costco nearby is a blessing and a curse. It is the perfect place to stock up on some bulk bargain items - and luckily they have a large selection of goods that are perfect for a healthy plant-based lifestyle - but it's also easy to walk out of there spending hundreds of dollars on each trip in. In this video, we'll go through what we usually pick up when we go to Costco, some of our favorites, and we'll talk about some new items and products as well. What are your favorite vegan items to get at Costco? And how much money do you drop when you shop?

Figs, gateway drug to dried mangoes...
If it crunchy, add salt and Chilly powder wth the mango
Hearts of palm for ceviche!!! Totally awesome recipe from Roberto Martin in Vegan Cooking for Carnivores. The BOMB!
Frozen dark cherries, with power greens thrown into the blender with plant milk...and some unsweetened cocoa powder! Favorite smoothie! Sometimes I trade out the cocoa for some almond extract. It really pops that cherry flavor.
I agree on the dark sweet cherries! We always keep 2 bags in our freezer!
Debbie in WA Ü
Hemp milk...1/2 cup hemp hearts, 3 dates & 2 cups water. Put it in the blender and you have hemp milk. The best milk for your morning oats hands down
Thank you for sharing.
You can use hearts of palm as a veggie based "pulled pork", much like you would use jack fruit. Takes on flavor really well!
How do you prepare the veggie to use it?
I love the frozen cherries at Costco.
Yes! Be sure and check for pits...I find one every once in awhile. They are so good! I make a syrup of frozen cherries (cut in half) and frozen blueberries with a splash of maple syrup: bring to a boil and simmer a few minutes. Great on whole food pancakes and waffles.
I just learned that Ceylon cinnamon , as opposed to Saignon cinnamon, is the best since it does not have coumarin. If you use that cinnamon from Costco (I just bought it too, before I learned of Ceylon.) be sure not to have more than 1 teaspoon in a day, otherwise it has some bad side effects.
I agree. I only use Ceylon cinnamon.
Yes, I learned that from Dr. Fuhrman. I get my Ceylon Cinnamon on Amazon.
Ceylon cinnamon also tastes *way* better!
Thanks for this info!!!
If you store your nut butters, tahini etc., upside down they will be so much easier to stir. That was one of the best tips I have ever received. It really does work. :)
Great tip!
"It tastes like pudding made out of cough syrup"......that made me LoL in my office at the desk. Now they know I wasn't working. Ack!
You should ask Dylan if he offers unemployment insurance LOL
I was not surprised you bought the dried mango. And I wasn't too surprised about the fresh mango (it even looked unripe on camera). And then you pulled out the frozen mango and I said to myself: "Yup, he really does love mango!!" Haha.
I liked the tip about processing the nut butter to 'emulsify' it. Great video, thanks!
"It tastes like pudding made from cough syrup," might be the greatest line ever uttered. A picture was definitely painted. Also, hearts of palm sliced into salads are awesome. They're also good in chickpea tuna-style salads. They keep the salad from getting too pasty and heavy.
You can put the mango in the slow cooker with half cup of water and cook for 4 or 5 hours and it's really good.... it sweetens up. I do it with apples and peaches all the time.
I hear that Ceylon cinnamon is the best. Dr Axe said that.
Yes it has lots of benefits.
I like hearts of palm sliced in a salad. Also, the jars are great to store dry legumes and grains 😊
Love your show .. I m vegetarian all my life that’s how I grown up ... religious reason .. basically non violence .. but I admire who used to eat meat n now vegan highly appreciated
We use harts of palm on our salads. So good!
Another great video, you two! You make me smile! Because you are showing me how important and how easy it is to stay healthy!!
😘
Dillon said in the last video that Spindrift was like "homemade LaCroix." Of course I had to buy some at Costco last week. Thank you, thank you, thank you! That grapefruit tasted so close to fresh juice. And Costco's price is half that of Kroger or Whole Foods.
Yes it’s so good!
Absolutely agree about the dried mango. Orange crack in a bag. So good.
Hearts of palm. I constantly make a hearts of palm salad from the Purple Carrot recipe for "lobster rolls". But I eat it either on mini tortillas or just with a fork. Yum!
Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats, Golden Ground Flaxseed (when they have it), Frozen Organic Blueberries. Thanks for the tips!!
You 2 ROCK......you both are AWESOME!!!!!
I appreciate that Reebs gives you snark
She sure does. ❤️
Hahahaha
Love the produce and the greens/veggie section
That was fun. Thank you both. You make a nice couple.
I poured the peanut oil off of the top of my Costco peanut butter. Then I keep that to cook with. Then I eat the peanut butter 2/3 top as peanut butter. Then that hard chalky peanut butter bottom I mix with some maple syrup. It doesn’t take much to give it a great flavor. Then I make my own homemade peanut butter cups using that maple syrup peanut butter.
Syrah Smythe it works out really great. I cannot eat refined sugar. Or fake sugar. I just eat maple syrup or honey. I saw in this one video how to make homemade chocolate. You take 1 heaping tablespoon of cocoa powder the good stuff. I use Santa Barbara chocolate company vegan red cocoa powder. 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and mix that together. Then start doing what you’re going to do with it before it sets. Paint some cups with chocolate and throw the shell part in the freezer. Then mold some chalky maple syrup peanut butter center with your fingers top it off with chocolate and back in the freezer. It sounds way more complicated than it is.
Have a Blessed day!!!
Dillon is so so funny! I love your sense of humor!!!!
Palms which I call “palmito” are great just like that out of the jar...with rice and beans! 😋
Kirkland Organic Quinoa (single color, white) is the most economical quinoa I've found - and pre-washed! So easy to use in a flash.
Palms are nice chopped in salads or inside fried “dumplings” like a harumaki
As always, love your information. Lots to glean. Looks like a super haul.
Thank you Brenda!
Thank you for sharing.
love your chemistry
So glad to find this this morn while I ate my oatmeal! Oh! Oatmeal! That's a good one, lots for cheap! You guys are a hoot.
Awesome vid..thank you so much🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱💪
Hearts of palms are great on salads! But last time I bought a two pack from costco, one jar sat in my cupboard unopened for about two years! Good luck! We always buy chia seeds and oats at costco! I noticed you bought a lot of olives but skipped the kalamata jar, that's our favorite! And I have to recommend Kirkland Salsa (does contain salt tho!).
i love hearts of palm in salads, sometimes... to mix it up!
The garlic and jalapeño olives are soooo good!
❤ Costco! I have many of these in my pantry now! 😊
Hearts of palm is great chopped up on a salad. We love Costco. My husband eats the frozen blueberries like ice-cream it's the perfect cold snack.
Also a fan of the frozen blueberries as a snack, they are not very good defrosted.
Love hearts of palm. They can be used like artichoke hearts. They are great sliced into salad.
The Coach’s Oats are the very best steel cut oats available. Yes to the Hemp Hearts - we add them to oatmeal.
We like their produce but you do need to have a plan to use it up.
“It shouldn’t crunch like that!”🤣🤣🤣
Awesome vegan haul from Costco. Some items are regional and we don’t get as many organic produce choices in Georgia compared to other areas. This week organic fresh ginger root and turmeric were in stock in the walk-in produce fridge.
I don’t walk into the produce fridge enough and I need to remember to check it out!
I love the tshirts you both are wearing.
I love them too! I wore my saucy shirt to the commercial kitchen when we made marinara!
Those mangoes with lime juice and a sprinkle of chili pepper... also...really enjoy your channel!!
Now I get it!! You're canadian! The best channel ever...kudos
I put the Mama Chia in oatmeal. It's soooo good ☺️
This was fun.
Hearts of palm...in your salad, on your pizza, in your mouth just by themselves! They are delicious! I prefer them room temp but I eat them cold as well.
I just went to Costco today and bought many of the same items. Fun video since I love my Costco. 😝
Sprinkle Tajin, or similar spice on your unripened mango - it's very good that way,
This was super helpful, thank you! Added items to my Instacart as I watched. Dual monitors FTW.
Palm heart vegan crab cakes! My fav must try. And a homemade tarter sauce.
Try the Good Life Queso type dip, it is phenomenal and goes really well with the Kale and pea chips.
You guys are funny! Love the humor! 🤗
Their raw cashews are a great price.
I've never seen raw cashews at Costco!!! I get mine from Sprouts. Spendy.
Hearts of palm for faux tuna salad, crab cakes or lobster rolls for the win. Chef AJ has breaded them on her channel too
Made your Vegan Frittatas.So good!
Love hearts of palm. I use them in salads & just eat them alone as a snack.
Highly recommend. the dip for the crunchy not yet ripe mango is:
some fish sauce, and about half the amount of sugar, and add chili (grinded if you like it extra hot).
Gross
Flavor God is akso a great company online for seasonings!! Great ingredients. Gluten free. Great stuff. My two favorite companies are yours and Flavor God. I’m so glad I found both.
I use hearts of palm to make a vegan "lobster" roll. A little celery, vegan mayo, dijon, Old Bay Seasoning mixed together on a toasted bun with some lettuce!
Try the giant bag of dried plums - cheap and delicious, sweet and sticky, can be used in place of dates. I tried the chili dried mango and don't care for it, will have to figure out how to use it as a seasoning or condiment cuz right now it's just sitting in the cupboard. The regular dried mango I loved.
Yes, load up on the oil and salt!
Hearts of Palm can be used for most seafood substitutes. They make excellent fysh tacos!
Just got to freeze some of the spinach in a seperate container. Spinach goes quick and I doubt you 2 would finish that bag in 4 days. Frozen spinach is a nice add in for soups and stews.
I make a mock crab salad with hearts of palm. Chop up the hearts of plam and add dill, celery, chopped kelp, capers, vegan mayo and Old Bay! Yum.
That sounds absolutely delicious!!
I’ve gotta try putting Larabars in the freezer!
Hearts of palms are great on celery, radishes , cilantro and avocado salad seasoned with lemon juice and hot pepper flakes
Ooooh that sounds yummy, thanks Marshella!!
Can't beat mangoes picked off the tree.... in paradise.... Hawaii ;)
Woohoo!! Canadian quinoa!! Haha sending you guys love from Canada ❤ Thanks for the always awesome content! Woo!
I drain off the separated peanut oil into a small jar in my fridge. Someday I might drizzle some on a stirfry. And the peanut butter mixes up fine without the stuff on the top
alright never knew costco had so many good vegan options! i wouldn't be able to handle the dried mangos. they are TOO good
omg the comment about the vanilla :) so funny n so true x
One thing I do with the peanut butter is store it upside down, right behind the current one I'm using. When I get all the way to the bottom of the current one I flip the one behind it right side up. That way it pretty much mixes itself together as the oil goes to the top for a day or so. I've been doing this for years and it works great!!
Thanks for sharing Jennifer, we will have to give it a try!
I’ve made delicious hearts of palm ceviche!
Def use the hearts of Palm for ceviche. Just food process it and Marinate in lime juice for thirty minutes before you add the chopped tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro. I've seen people use it for fish substitute
I agree with you about the dried mangoes. I cannot have them in the house. They are like crack!
Hearts of palm for vegan fried “fish” is bomb
Ty.
This video was awesome! Informative and hilarious. (Reebs’ comments on “vitality” killed me.) Seriously best ever. Well done.
I ALWAYS have roasted mushrooms in my fridge. I am a Costco-aholic. But, I buy the @ Sam's mushrooms (2 at a time for roasting. …same size container as Costco). The Sam's mushrooms price is enough lower so that it makes economic sense to drive there JUST for the mushrooms! They are near each other, anyway.
Mushrooms: 400°F on a sheet pan for 1 - 1.25 hour on parchment paper. You can even stack them if there are too many (there always are too many!). Rinse to remove the "substrate" (growing medium) > Spread on parchment paper > Sprinkle of pepper & dusting of salt ( I know!) > Roast > Turn off the oven & let sit in the oven until cool > Store in the fridge > Great snack or topper for "stuff" > Keeps for a week easy.
That's awesome Jim! You have a whole system!
Hearts of palm rinsed and drained with cocktail sauce. Texturally like crab legs or something like that. I’ve heard of other vegans using them to make crab cakes
Love you guys!! So glad I came across you. Your recipes sound great. I downloaded your meal planer. Also watched your Costco shopping. I am converting to plant base diet. But I do still on occasion have a hamburger or some chicken. But I am doing good.Thank you for the great recipes.
Welcome!!
Loved the Halloween decorations. Costco has dental insurance at some locations, but not in Illinois. It's another reason to move from IL. Also, we have swimsuits in the store in January when it's minus 2 degrees.
I remember Price Club then COSTCO, and Kirkland products.
Dillon and Reebs, THANK YOU sooooo much for the tip that Costco’s produce is NOT the best deal. I’m gonna start going to Aldi for much of my produce. I LOVE Costco, but buy so much because of our huge family. I want to save where I can. THANK YOU!!!
Our pleasure!
I love unripe crunchy mango!!! Add lime juice and it’s delicious
Update: I did end up eating the whole thing haha
Well Your World exactly 😂
You can make vegan crab cakes with hearts of palm, lots of recipes on line, just omit the oil.
Hearts of Palm are perfect to make a vegan ceviche :)
Frozen asparagus is great to make asparagus soup with.
I recently heard about hearts of palm used to make egg salad. Just cut up and boil for a few minutes then make egg salad recipe of your choice. 🤓
“ Similar to cocaine but different texture” 😂
Love your video. Clicked the subscribe button. I'm up here in Canada 🇨🇦. Sadly, I don't think we ever get the Cholula.
Yea I've seen the same thing breaded and used a mozzarella sticks
I will try it since I already bought them! Haha
We go to Costco weekly. We buy most all of what you showed, plus - the 6 packs of hearts of Romaine lettuce, fresh raspberries, strawberries, blackberries & blueberries, the mini sweet peppers (for roasting or grilling), carrots, English cucumbers, watermelons, pineapples, champagne mangoes, white nectarines, sweet onions. For us - Costco's price on produce is much cheaper than what our grocery stores sell them for.
Raisins, walnuts, raw cashews, almonds, picante sauce, frozen organic corn. We buy the Charmin TP, dish soap and d'washer detergent, sponges. We buy all the sizes of the ziploc bags (I know - plastic... we do wash and reuse them)
Even though our Costco is THE busiest (highest sales) in Washington State - there are many products I saw on your and other videos that ours does not carry. Edamame, hearts of palm, date syrup, to name a few.
Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable and info packed video!!
Debbie in WA Ü
No worries! I think the Calrose brown rice is a short-grain rice. Anyway, it is delicious!!
I think they called this one medium grain or something like that.
Hi, I was wondering, can one find the Costco as well as the Trader Joe's grocery lists on your site? Love the video and thanks for sharing!!!! 🙏🏾
Smiled all the way through!🤣🤣🤣. REEBS...maybe too young for the Price Club reference? Just tell me what the check out peeps’ comments are? And lastly, I ❤️ those double stuffed olives...garlic and jalapeño! ❤️❤️❤️U2. PS. BANANA 🍌 🥞 COMING SOON! Whaaaaaaat!!!
Woohooo it’s getting mixed this week too!!
