  • Today I'm sharing things I NEVER pack when I go on a cruise. After many cruises, including Disney Cruise Line and Viking Sea, I always overpack and I've figured out what NOT to bring. If you've ever wondered how to pack for a cruise with only a carry-on, this video will help! You don't need NEARLY as much as you think.

With 4th cruise just around the corner. I have a spreadsheet for clothes based on daytime activities and evening dinner clothes. It allows me to see where I can re wear and mix and match outfits later in the week and pack lighter. 2 dinner dress shoes, 1 flip flops, 1 sand/water shoes, & 1 gym shoes. A few bathing suits, 2 cover ups, 2 sets gym clothes, pj’s and undergarments + toiletries & a few clothes pins to hang dry wet suits. All set and packed in a standard size carryon suitcase and 1 standard backpack. I no longer worry about wrinkles in my clothes since I found Wrinkle Release, that stuff is great. I don’t need extra room to bring back souvenirs, but if I do, the back pack has plenty of expansion room. Thanks for putting this video out there! Everyone needs to know all that extra stuff really is not necessary and takes more time to unpack and repack when you could be enjoying your vacation. Your vlogs are very helpful, thanks again!

Not a "what I don't bring," but "what I don't pay for" item is the drinks package. Unless you drink a LOT it's not worth it, especially if you're a water and tea type of person, like me. Even if you enjoy a glass of wine at dinner, it's still more cost effective to just pay for your wine as you go, rather than an expensive drinks package. You can always fine a free cup of tea, and as you say, the water on board is safe and tastes just fine.

I bring flip flops, Tennis shoes, 1 pair of sparkly sandals and 1 pair of neutral sandals. I hate being uncomfortable so I want shoes that I can walk everywhere in. I di use the towel clips - Especially on the windy pool deck. I also plan my outfits on a spreadsheet based on the activities. 8th cruise is next march.

Cute or unique towel clips keep your towel in place and, in that sea of loungers, you can spot your own! If that’s not a concern towel bands are now available. They are giant rubber bands fitting over the back of the chair without taking any packing space

One of your best videos, yes you are right about the water no need, just bring your own flask. However I cannot be a minimalist packer
Also I am a retired FLight Attendant for the best airline in hawaii can you guess. The reason I cannot be a minimalist is here in hawaii many of us practice omiyage, even though it is a Japanese word, most of us here in hawaii japanese or not practice this. Meaning we bring gifts
I bring going over and coming back, I have given the ship crew not all, our personal crew that tends to us and some other crew members
I always bring macadamia nut chocolates, cookies snacks all hawaii goodies. Whether I travel non rev or revenue, I always bring the FA something on the departure little harder on the return for FA but I somehow manage.
Now I know that we tip, but it is a hawaii practice which stems from the Asian culture. So the crew members in addition to their tips are given goodies from hawaii, and they are so appreciative. And we are so happy to give them out. So that’s why I cannot be a minimalist packer. Half of my luggage is filled with omiyage which I’m so happy to give out to deserving people.
Also we usually sit with the same people at dinner since we choose the sit down for dinner, so I give the people I will be sitting with since we will be seated with them every night. And I also like to give nice people that I meet.
Thumbs up way up for all your great videos

I love watching your channel. I find those towel clips essential on a windy deck…makes a huge difference. I do agree that the shoes are a hard decision….I have solved the packing problem by putting 2 of my pairs of shoes in my-husband’s suitcase!!!! Haha We are leaving soon on a 20 day transpacific cruise….we will be gone 37 days in total… I am really trying to pare down my clothes…it is difficult. I do leave a list in my suitcase of clothes I did not wear the previous cruise. This really helps.

I had heels for formal nights and fell off them due to rolling decks! After that, I wore black flats. Lol
Princess had a laundry on every deck. Doing laundry is easier than hiking heavy luggage anywhere. Next time, it'll be a carryon and a tote!
Walking was an understatement. I coined the phrase, "I didn't know my aft from my elbow!" I was always on the wrong end of the ship!

I'm a little envious of anyone that can re-wear outfits during any vacations. Especially now post-menopause, I sweat like a horse. I always end up showering and putting on a fresh outfit for dinner. I LOL at #2. When I went on my first cruise (RCL, late 90s), my friend and I took a FULL SIZE suitcase full of shoes. I don't go that crazy any more, but yes, I am still a shoe gal.

One exception to paring it down - is if you are traveling by air overseas and then staying in a hotel before or after the cruise, you may need some things that you wouldn't need on the cruise. Makes packing a bit trickier. I just found out that my favorite hair tool won't work in Europe!
I know I will need battery chargers for the long plane trip and snacks / food as I have seen airplane food lately! However it is true most of us pack way too many clothes and shoes. Don't throw unused things away, donate. Someone else may find a use for them. Enjoy your videos.

Yep! I agree with all your great tips! I've only done 2 cruises recently and I overpacked for the first one. Second one I had dialed in fairly well. I never get bottled water, I always carry a refillable bottle for the plane and the trip/cruise. You can always find places to refill a water bottle--I use the soda fountains usually which always have a water option.

We’ve been on 28 cruises so far. And I agree with almost all of your points except the one about water. I don’t have a problem with the taste of the tap water, but on my first dozen or so cruises, my feet and ankles would swell. A lot! I know they use desalinated water so I must be super sensitive to some bits of remaining salt in that water. When I started ordering bottled water, my feet stopped swelling. I still drink water on lido or dining room, but the bottled water must dilute it enough that I no longer swell. Curious if anyone else swells?
