Plastic waste in general is bad for various reasons, but with straws it's the shape more than the material that is the problem. Like plastic rings that hold together a 6 pack of soda or beer. No plastic should be in the ocean, but the shapes of certain plastics make them even worse. There's a video here on CZcams of a straw being pulled out of a sea turtles nose. This wasn't one of the better points of the song, but didn't ruin it. It's just accentuated by the song being about not being stupid and he clearly didn't understand the straw thing. It's like calling somebody dumb in a comment section and getting the spelling wrong, like dum, hahah. Be ready to be informed about how you shouldn't call people dumb if you can't spell. Peace.

Sperm is also life on earth yet I am sure Tom has disposed of a condom with sperms in it lol. We are long past the point of sperm, bacteria, or the basic fetal functions (heartbeat as he put it) being recognised as life. They have been recognised as life from a very very very long time. If he had said we treat a discovery of bacteria on Mars as monumental whereas life here is shunned or disregarded, I can sort of see it being an okay to good line. But this really isn't.
