You know what is WAY more eco friendly? Preserving the old growth wood the house must have had that is designed to last hundreds of years and is literally irreplaceable. Extending the life of quality old items in general is far better in most circumstances than making new materials! The cool thing is many things back then were actually made to be repairable and last.
