I think I've watched this video 6 or 8 times now. I never get tired of watching Liz paint. (Sigh)

That was lovely to watch! It would be very interesting to see a video of you showing your plein air painting setup, like how you made it and what materials you bring along :)

I really enjoyed this video Liz, I am all fingers and thumbs so the board looks like a great idea, I usually use aqua brushes when I am out as it is easier but I much rather a set up like you have so I can carry water. Also what did you say the brush was called that you used I couldn't quite catch it.

What did you mean by waterbrushes 'killing the paint'?

Hi Rhomany - I will be doing a video demo of this but basically waterbrushes wash out the washes. You can get much stronger washes and granulation when using a normal brush.

What is the purpose of making sketches rather than finished pieces of art?

    • @LizSteelArt

a sketch is quick and immediate, captures a moment and often has more life than a finished piece. Also because it is quick you can be doing sketches at any time - in a crazy quick sketch like this. Otherwise all I would have is photos of places I would like to paint.

What is the advantage of this over a photo?

Very late response, but sometimes the compression of the scene you get from photographs tend to be soulless versus sketching. Especially if you don't know how your focal lengths and aperture work. In my experience as a photographer, I started sketching because I was taking pictures of events I was working/attending for leisure and I realized I wasn't remembering any details about them when people asked me what I did there. Sketching helps with remembering little details that most people overlook and I appreciate the place I visited a lot more.
