They were fighting for the ball on the way down. He didn't have full possession when he hit the ground. Which would not make this an interception.

The ref signaling touchdown didn't have a clear view of possession at the time the defenders knee touched.
Interception, play over as soon as the defenders hip touched the ground, moments before the ball was stripped out.
Not how it works. Not a “strip” or “down by contact since they technically both have possession of the ball. And a tie goes to the receiver

The defensive back intercepted the pass and was down by contact, the end of the play. So the play was over before the offensive player then got the ball.
That was a clear pick.. it was right in the belly of the defender.. the fact that the WR reached around and grabbed hold of it after it was caught, does not matter.. the original catch was by the defender.. and he never released that ball, was always in his control.. they want to try and say simultaneous possession goes to the WR... but it was never simultaneous at all..

@@bogden9585 anything is "clear" when you rule out nuance and alternative possibilities. ref was there and didn't see anything that'd be "clear", initial possession by defensive player. any actual possession was judged to have started simultaneously instead of when the defender first touched it.

That was not a tie that was a clear interception but the tight end got in there and fought for it after they both landed and created an illusion that they both caught the ball at the same time which didn’t happen.

Simultaneous catch goes to to the offense. When a player makes a catch in the act of going to the ground he must maintain possession through contact with the ground. That gave the TE opportunity to establish a joint possession. Correct call.
