It makes sense to me. I mean, as a mercenary he would have connections to villains around the world. There's not a doubt in my mind that he got the gas from Scarecrow. Whether he bought it /stoll it, he would always make sure he was 20-steps ahead of his enemies

The person who triggered it was trigon bc slade made a deal with trigon that if he brought raven he would give his flesh and blood back. I don't know why slade attacked robin. Maybe trigon wanted to know the team more to fulfill raven's destiny. But I'm pretty sure trigon did bc the next time we see him, trigon brought him back for the deal.

I think slade actually was there. Because at the end his mask glows red…
And in the next episode, slade makes an appearance.
So that would mean that slade already had his powers from trigon, and was just using them to fuck with robin in the meantime. Y’know, cuz slade is evil.
And the gas thing was just an excuse to make everyone believe he wasn’t actually there. You know how when ghosts sightings, people make excuses before automatically saying it was a ghost? Like they say the knocks they hear at night could’ve been the wind or the air ducts? You never really know.
That’s what slade was doing to robin, so that everyone would think robin was losing it, when he wasn’t.
Because who in their right mind beats themselves up like that? You think robin just punched himself in the face giving himself black eyes? And scratches? He was literally feeling every bit of those beatings.
Fact is, the next episode slade shows up with super powers so that proves slade was in fact real.
