I took some birdhouses from the dollar store and turned them into a usable piece of terrain for tabletop gaming.

Cricut Project File for shingles: design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/654270df4e111bea3cbfd0d8
I have a new website!
Same url www.blackmagiccraft.ca but completely refreshed with all the Essential Equipment links updated! Check it out.
Would you be willing to upload an SVG for the roof shingles? I'm new to Cricut, but I think there might be something wrong with the project file preventing me from importing it.
@@ZacharyHubbs I was having some trouble as well, I right clicked and saved image on the link and then imported it into cricut from there and that worked for me.
I'd love to see you make baba yagas house
...not sure how to get the feet
Try flipping your mat over and peel it from your project, instead of pulling your cut material from the mat 😁
To avoid overspray, use a paper card (or whatever is handy) to block what you don't want to get paint on while airbrushing.
This guy. Years in, he's still changing the game, innovating all the time. Now everyone's running out getting CriCuts! Love it.
Well to be fair..... Using a Cricket machine to make stuff like this is something that has been going on since the company went to the design space concept.. so many years at this point ....
Just a heads up - the cricut is pretty tightly tied to the online tools you need to run it, so you're dependent on continuing support from the company just to use it. When they shut that down, your cricut becomes a door stop.
Silhouette cutters come with more future proof, offline software, and even have some open source options.
@@saltfreegamerseconding this, I bought a silhouette almost 10 years ago and have never needed to do anything special beyond replacing old/worn out blades and un-sticky sheets. Since it's old it's super noisy but still works great!
Agreed
Thank you for this tip as I've been itching to get a Cricut. Will get a silhouette cutter instead
I work at Michaels and I've been eyeing our birdhouses and cardboard houses thinking the same thing. Love it.
Whenever I go to Michaels and see another single dude looking at things like that I know he's making terrain lol
Nice
Airbrush tip: a quick way to mask off flat, straight areas like that roof section is to hold a strip of card (like a business card) against it with one hand, and spray with the other. It won't be as crisp as tape or masking putty, but it's way faster and easier.
@saltfreegamer, I second your suggestion.
I was about to comment this but wanted to check if someone else said it already! Definitely the easiest/fastest way to get cleaner lines
When he starts with a smirk, you know it's gonna be good!
I like how you combined the birdhouses into a multilevel building that could work as an inn or moderately priced home.
Something else that works REALLY well for thin strips of wood texture, is the flat sections of styrofoam clamshell food takeout containers. I’ve used those for some of my builds cuz I have good access to them from working in a restaurant and snag some that get thrown away cuz they fall on the floor or whatever. They take wood grain texturing very well!
Those little Christmas houses are really nice to use too just make them look extra dark & gloomy and you have new scenery, you can find lots for cheap at thrift stores especially Christian ones
Yeah my party basically doomed this goblin tribe so ended up taking them in on their land but I got this Christmas bar for like 4 dollars on sale and painted the snow lime green like slime and it became the goblins home on our table
Great idea! Storycraft society recently did a short series of these, only with singular birdhouses.
yup my thought exactly.
Could be total coincidence that they both found these but I saw this video in my feed and totally expected this to be a shoutout to storycraft society. Nothing wrong with liking both though, Jeremy does take this one to the next level!
@@GrandManDan its a coinkidink.
Right? They both have very different styles though, it's fun to see different takes on using the same material
The problem with their build was, in my opinion at least, that they added way too much stuff. To the point that they might as well had started with a block of xps foam. When picking a foundation to work off from, you do so to cut down in build time. However their builds still took quite some time.
I am always hesitant to make these kinds of comments b/c I know you work hard on *every* build and video... BUT, THIS RIGHT HERE is the kind of video I started watching you for and I find these absolutely inspiring. SO cool Jeremy!
I’ve been watching for years, and this video does an incredible job of showing how your craft has evolved, using all the various techniques you’ve picked up. Stunning work!
Ingenious idea, Jeremy! I hadn't considered birdhouses before. Off to Dollar Tree!!
Oooh! . . .No flashing on the roof! It's gonna leak! (You're a contractor/builder. You know what I mean. LOL!)
AWESOME BUILD!! Bird houses!! Who'd'a thunk? Thank you for showing your secrets. It's always fun to watch.
Oh man - those textured strips are such a brilliant idea. This is the only thing I was missing to finally get to making some Mordheim scenery. Thanks a bunch brother! Fantastic video!
Those construction paper strips worked just perfect!!! It’s awesome to be always experimenting with techniques!
i have seen so many medieval building crafting videos by now, that i often throw them on the second monitor and barely pay attention to them. but THIS one had a few really cool new ideas in it. great video!
This DUDE! I forgot about this channel! I used to watch all the vids even though I don’t do this kind of crafting at all. He’s still at it years later, and it’s still AMAZING! Keep it up, bro!
IKR! I don't do this kind of crafting OR play any of those type of games but I get inspired just because of the artistry involved. He is amazing.
This looks really great. I'm loving how those pastels add just the right amount of grunge. Not too much to look dirty, but just enough to add depth and texture
I've been eyeing those birdhouses for like two years, thanks for showing me the way.
Wow. As a crafter I applaud this project. Well done! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I always saw these in the dollar store and wondered if it was possible. Masterfully executed! Some great techniques in this build.
What a great imagination you have. This house is very pretty and I would not mind living there.
Over the last year or so you have helped me with several builds. Thanks so much for the videos my friend. Thanks......
You just made my day!! I have been looking into ways to cheaply n quickly make good looking buildings for my D&D games. Excuse me while I make good use of all the cereal and soda boxes in my house!! ❤🎉❤🎉
I have been watching your work for, I don't know how long, this is a great project that pulls in so much of what I have seen you evolve, the rolling pin in the caulking on card, just brilliant! Thank you for all your inspiration! I am clearing space to have a crack at this as I finished watching :-)
You have such a great sense of humor, I always laugh out loud watching your videos.
"That no bird would ever live in." LOL Inspired project!
Wow, this opens up so many new crafting possibilities. So inspiring!
I used a bunch of these for Frostgrave terrain. I didn't join them together, just made them as individual buildings. Jeremy's are much more elaborate than the ones I did (cardboard for trim on all corners, shingles were strips of card cut with scissors and glued to the roof) Works great for Frostgrave. Nice work Jeremy!
love the paper + caulking brick work, genius!
Love how you keep us all on our toes with new building methods! ❤😊❤
Such a great build! Awesome!
Well done! Enjoyed the conversion.
Absolutely brilliant
This is so cool! A tip I got from life-size DIY: When you're airbrushing the roof/wall line (red and white base coats at around 10:44) - grab a sheet of cardboard or I like a paint scraper, and cover the wall to the edge while spraying the roof (you see a lot of people doing paint spraying on actual houses using this method, with giant bits of cardboard or sheets of material
Beautifully made!
Absolutely Brilliant!
I love the way you describe multiple ways to do things
Enjoy your ideas all the time, I'm grateful to see so many options on what tools you have and what might be worth investing into to keep my craft developing!
Looks awesome. Now I want to try it. Thanks for sharing
You just blew my mind. I've been searching the net for pre-made 0-scale buildings to create Xavier's school for Marvel Crisis Protocol, and I never thought to just build it.
Thanks bro!
Excellent!! Thank you for sharing! 🤩
Gorgeous!
Great deployment of the Cricut for cutting otherwise tedious shingles. Brilliant results!
I remember using these for one of my first building crafts years ago. Might have to revisit it and make it look infinitely better using these techniques!
Very cool looking building.
Don't know why CZcams recommended this to me, but what a cool project! Using the circuit to cut tiles is ingenious! I also never realized how versatile those cutters are, thought they just did stickers!
This is a GENIUS idea! Wow...never would have thought about this.
Thank you. We going to try it!
Thanks for the great ideas. I'm going to try using the bird houses.
The results are fantastic. Really good work
Really creative designs.
Thanks for sharing!
🏕
love it, the baskics like this are really good.
This is so great! Love the use of simple and cheap stuff and how you make it look amazing!
Wow, beautiful!!!
Brilliant idea, love it
This turned out better than I would have guessed looking at what you started out with. Great job!
Beautiful! I've never combined them together into one building before. Very nice!
Really cool idea. Thanks for all you do.
Great stuff. The pan pastels look great.
Such a great build!
I just got suggested your channel and all I can say is, WOW! 😮
This tutorial is fantastic! full of useful tips and the end result is gorgeous 😍 I've now subscribed and can't wait to see what else you've made.
Beautiful home!
Always grat to watch you work! Thanks!
Brilliant, love it.
That’s brilliant !
Omg you are soooo resourceful!!!!
Always high quality tutorials.
You deserve more recognition!
Gorgeous
Thank you for all the great tips. I can’t wait to try the cheap birdhouse method. What a timesaver!
I have seen the cheap bird houses being used for ttrp terrain, but in the video that I saw they used so much stuff to cover and alter the house that they could have used a xps block as base as well.
In your build you really lean into the fact that the bird housed have the right shape and only add what is neccesary. The other channel didn’t inspire me, but you really did. Great work! And loads of accessable techniques.
Always something being used in new and interesting ways. Thank you
I've never played d&d or any table top war games but your videos are so well made and relaxing :)
Love rhis, beautiful houses etc.
That looks fantastic!
Looks fantastic!!
I love how this turned out. I am creating a fairy garden/town inside my home and this would be a perfect addition!!!
Such a great idea. Turned out great
This is great and I never would have thought about it
Love this idea. Very nicely executed.
Jeremy, I love that you show techniques that anyone can use to still get spectacular results. You're the best, brother!!!
Looks so good!
So many innovative techniques in one video! Black Magic Craft knocks it out of the park again!
Love this idea for making my Christmas village!! ❤
Insane dude, I've learned a lot about miniature crafting thanks to you bro! Cheers!
That looks so good!
I really enjoyed watching you do this… videoing all the steps was a teaching technique for me personally…. I’ve made many small scale miniature items, houses, boats etc. and I failed to record the steps…in my defense, I was just starting out…and now I see the value…thanks…and I’ll definitely keep watching to see what you make in the future❤️
That is an amazing idea! Thank you for sharing your ingenuity
Fantastic job
As always, amazing. Side note... this is a GREAT idea for making Halloween, winter, Spring villages. Low expense with high quality results, and if they get damages, you don't have to just toss them out. Being that they are not ceramic, repair would be fairly easy, Thank you!
Enjoyed every step of this build and the result is remarkable. You are an artist!
Loved the flexible stonework idea. I’m am so going to have to use that.
that looks amazing! will definitely try this for some Warhammer Fantasy houses
I've played with this idea for a while, but using the oscillating multi-tool- that's the one thing I never thought to try. Glad to pick a new "hobby hack"!
Thanks
Loved this biuld, i hope to try it in the future
And that becomes the next thing on the 'should probably try that out list' - but totally going to use the caulk on construction paper trick (walls, streets, indistrial floors & walls - so many options). I'd love to see what you could do with the plastic doll house fronts from Dollar Tree (which look like the front doors are scaled perfectly for 28mm)
That is excellent. The caulk strips is a really good idea!👏👏👏
Great job, truly a work of art!
Amazing video, so many good techniques
Fantastic idea and looks brilliant as ever
Thank you for talking through your video. 🥰 It makes things so much easier to follow. Also... I love that house. It would make a great decor piece as well as a game piece.
