What are your thought on the new Leatherman Free T Series multi-tools?
I think swiza DO9 is much better than this
@One Plus 👍👍👍
I like the design, but for the price I don't think your getting enough/ I also already have allot of other devices/multitools, that can do what this tool does, but also allot more, I just feel like its somewhat limited, especially for the price. Also this is coming from someone who has expensive/high quality steel knives, I also have allot of tools on my keychain/ with my key chain, I've probably spent $300 on it, I have screw drivers, big and small, can openers, fingernail clipers multi tool, plier multi tool, blades, stand alone scisors, stand alone tweezers, tape measure, seat belt cutter and glass breaker, keychain lighter, ferrel rods, for starting fires, I'm sure I have some other tools on my key chain too, that I'm forgeting, my point here is, I don't mind investing in something, I just don't see enough value in these tools.
Too little tools in a too bulky package. Non the less, the magnetic system is pretty awesome. I would like to see how the magnets hold up in long term use. With that metal file you will also get metal dust being drawn into the tool (by the magnets). I still prefer my old Leatherman Wave above the free series. I have a Victorinox Swiss Army knife (champion plus) which roughly takes up the same amount of pocket space as the T4 and has a lot more tools. The only real advantages you have with the T4 is the 25 year warranty and the lock blade. Now you might argue that Victorinox has a lifetime warranty, but believe me when I tell you it's not as versatile as Leatherman's.
Riaan JvR The magnetic system and quick tool access is why I’m still carrying the P4. Even though it has its quirks.
When I first saw these on the website I thought they'd be cool. But now I've seen them being handled I'm kind of thinking they look fairly chunky, especially the T4. For me I'd prefer to go for a smaller SAK or step up to the full-blown Leatherman. Great review 👍
I agree with you. I think a SAK: Huntsman model has more capability, not as chunky (slightly) and is lighter. IMO at least.
@@cchan5652
I personally like the Fieldmaster which is the same as the Huntsme but has a Philips instead of corkscrew.
My all time fav is the Craftsman czcams.com/video/UYGftu2qhX0/video.html
C Chan I have an older Victorinox Champion that is far more loaded tool wise I picked up back 2004-2006 time frame for $40. It was a new old-stock version I grabbed at a yard sale, and it looks like it has been heavily used.
Also, a SAK boasts a can opener, which is, regretfully, not present on the reviewed products
Same here. Looks great on pictures at first glance. Then you turn it, see the blade unfolded and it looks very blocky and ugly all of sudden.
Got the T4, been carrying it ever since. No regrets, works really well EDC.
I just got one T4, reason I'm watching this now lol. For the T4 for the thumb for grip you can always cut a little peace of grip tape for forearms. About the same thing u use on skateboards for grip.
Good review. I got it over a month. Very useful for an EDC and at work. If I need something a little more beefier, I got my Surge always. The T4 just fits right in for everyday use though.
Great video, “it becomes fumbly and awkward” welcome to being a lefty in a right handed edc world. Besides the past two years every single knife, gun, etc. are all designed for right handed so this is one of the first pocket tools that is actually lefty friendly
Eric Wessel You’re right. Us righties take everything for granted. Lol. Thanks for the comment! 🤘🏻
There is a spot for a lanyard or ring on the T4. It’s at the bottom left on knife side.
Clarc86 Ah you know what? You’re right. I don’t know how I missed it. It’s super small and blended into the other holes. Thanks for informing me.
I just saw it on mine early and thought the same thing. Lol, it is small, but it's definitely there.
And what's up with the T2 not coming with a spot for a pocket clip and not include it. That's crazy
Super cool review… I prefer the t2 after this & I was set to get the t4 👍🏼
Mine gets her on Tuesday gonna switch out my Swiss compact give it a shot looks good .
Just purchased the T2.
For me, I live in the City which T4 seems a bit too many tools for me.
(Eg. I don't need file and scissor on my everyday basis)
More about the guy who prefers small and a lightweight carry.
Then why bother with a tool where half the space is unused? Victorinox kicks leathermans ass, when it comes to non plier based tools. The cramp in twice the tools in the same space, with most tool seven being of superior design and quality.
@@trulsdirio I'm a big fan of both brands.
I used to carry SAK Cadet and Tinker.
No complaint about quality and tools.
But the fact that I need the tools that able to operate one hand will make my life much more easily.
So T2 become my first choice rather than both model from SAK.
Only the Hunter that I have seen that able to perform one hand operation but it only the blade, not all the tools.
The reason I think the Leatherman has to double the size is due to one hand operating to require a grippy handle.
Sorry if my grammar and spelling are not correct.
OH! My P4 has the belt hook standard. I just got the T4...It's absolutely my EDC now. The P4 was just too heavy for in the pocket...It's still going to be my workhorse when working, but around the house...day to day, it's the T4. For me at least.
John Borgen Same here.
I loved my t4 until i lost it at work the other day. Still cant get myself to buy another one considering the price, but it was worth it while i had it
I like my T4 a lot and btw there acually is a lanyard hole on the T4 it's just sort of tucked away right below the area where the Leatherman logo is.
Much easier to deploy the tools than on the Victorinox. Leatherman did a very good design on these pocket knives using magnets.
I have the T4 and also the Leatherman 502X with the 154CM knife blade. After comparing them side to side, you can see the quality of each tool. The 502X makes the T4 feel and look like a cheap, made in China multi-tool, just like the ones you purchase at a flea-market.
Rien que la vérité Wow. We clearly have different opinions on the t series.
I can’t justify buying the T2, as my Crater C33 is still in terrific condition, fits the hand well and has the handy clip. The T4 is tempting though….
I got my T-4 last Tuesday and very happy with it. I do own the P-4 too.
Got a t2 and p4 love them both!
I haven't picked up anything from Leatherman since the Wave. These new ones look pretty sick. Im kinda diggin the T4 and P4.
Everyday City Carry I carry one for work everyday so it’s my go to. I love the Wave by the way. One of the best tools they ever made.
Actually bought the Skeletool after the T2.... I prefer the Skeletool with it‘s plier and bit connector ... I can carry the for me most used bits with me. Sadly I move to the Skeletool... I think T2 is to big for so little tools.
And yes the Pocket Clip! Include it Leatherman... What’s wrong with you. Had to pay another 12€ for that.
I just received mine. It does have a hole for a lanyard. It is at the bottom left when reading the "leatherman" logo on the side. I don't think it is awkward at all to one hand operate the scissor side of the tool either. As you do need to use your pointer finger, it seems very easy. Just my opinion, and very good review otherwise. Thanks
Yes that was pointed out to me. I honestly don’t know how the heck I missed it.
And you’re better at operating the tool than I am if you don’t think it’s awkward because it definitely is.
Thanks for your comment!
It's like a macho
Swiss army knife 😁
A little bit yes!
Needs to be 2inches longer for big hand guys
Would love them, however with the blade lock they are not UK legal unfortunately.
Really? That’s carzy
The T4 is pretty cool. But I might wait until the K4 comes out.
I can’t blame you there.
Well, to be fair, I want a T and a K. 😆😅
Nice multitool
Leatherman needs to up their game with the knife steel...
Waiting for the pocket clip is like waiting for the new TOOL album.
😅
After owning a P2 and P4, I wouldn't trade my Spirit for the entire Free series.
What about the K series?
I’m really wanting to try a P, T and K really like what they did.
@@kylethedalek I haven't tried anything but the P2 and 4. Assuming the tools on the K are just as weak, there's no way it would stand up to my usage either. But lots of people like the Free series for the "cool" factor i guess, maybe you will too if you aren't hard on them. I will say when I saw the K in a store it was much larger than I expected from pictures.
I will carry either a WAVE or PS4, these just didn't make sence to me. Beside the style is just too funkie for me.
Buy a Victorinox Explorer or a Pioneer X. Nice review, Thanks. 👍
Rick Temmen I’ll look into them. Thanks!
@Harry Daniels I've been carrying a Leatherman lately but I don't think the scissors are as precise as the victorinox.
I'll just stick to my Leatherman wave, it has the removable bits, it just seems like they are down grading, its really stupid, don't know why they didn't stick with the removable bits. the P series had a pocket clip, you just bought the wrong one
great review, covered it all really well
The nylon kills it for me...
The T4 is cool. But there was no need for them to make the T2. It just seems to me a waste to buy the T2 when You can get the t4.
S&Tguy For only 20 buck more too. Add in the belt clip and you only have to spend 10 bucks more to get the T4.
Obviously T2 is designed to push the sales for T4
“Magnetic architecture” is fine until you happen to get some metal shavings into the works, and those will be extremely difficult to get out; you’ll probably have to take the tool apart(
Uri Kleefeld True. I wouldn’t recommend if you work around metal shavings.
It's quite simple to close the scissors? Seriously 😅 but otherwise great video bro.
My Victorinox Swisschamp is watching this with me and is laughing...
no clip. no lock blade
Looks good, great review! I may pick up a T4.
They shouldve put just kept the blade and put a small pliers on the end and maybe a beer opener.👍🏽
Whoa you a fellow buffalo guy! Cheers dude! I'm in Buffalo too!!!
Yo!
@@ChrispyThings You definitely gained a sub haha. So about the T4, I'm a lefty and like carrying my multi-tool in my left pocket. Can this be used just as easily with the left hand instead of the right? Also is the clip reversible for is use?
yeahthatsright33 since the lock is on both sides, it’s just as easy to use on both sides.
ok wow chris.
Victorinox Ranger 178 or 179....Thanks
Only I see, that all tools except scissors are not the same as in p4?
Andrew Pushkin Scissors, metal and wood file, small flat head screw driver that’s on the file and tweezers.
Chunky , Dont like the plastic in it and its expensive !
So far not impressed with how stiff the blade is to deploy, it an be done with enormous difficulty or needs 2 hands, hopefully it will improve with time 😬
good
Seriously, if you're only ever going to open and close it one handed then you should stick to the T2 (or the P series). If you only OCCASIONALLY need to close the non-knife side tools one handed then just deal with it. (I'm left handed, so I have to deal with ALL tools being awkwardly designed.)
Mike Vande Bunt If Leatherman claims one handed operation, it shouldn’t feel so clunky to operate one handed.
@@ChrispyThings It IS one handed. Some tools are one handed with the right hand and some are one handed with the left hand.
Mike Vande Bunt IF you say so. My opinion still stands.
Contemplating purchasing a T4. BUT! Here in the UK the T4 is priced around £75.00 pound and the T2 is around £50.00 pounds!!! Which is massively more expensive than it would appear the T4 & T2 are in the USA.
Who’s ripping who off? Leatherman in the UK or the retailers in the UK??
Puts me off buying one!!!
Darrell Philllips Wow. That’s insane! So that would be about $95 US. Thats complete robbery!
It’s UK Leatherman setting the extra expensive prices. It’s the same here in Australia. Leatherman Australia literally doubled the cost of the P series. It’s a bloody rip off.

Same thought myself. I'll stick to my SAK's!
Its the gov't in UK that tax the hell out of it.
7:28 Move it to your left hand.
Yes. But that’s exactly what I’m talking about. It’s dumbly and awkward to switch hands just to unlock it.
@@ChrispyThings It's the same for me with the knife since I'm a lefty :P
No clip = no go
you don't have to open cans and😃
Was keen until I saw this video.......so thanks
What don’t you like about it?
For the number of tools they have, these models are pretty thick. If no pliers needed, then SAKs are better options than these.
@5:13 Ouch?
No pocket clip the money they charge you you think they would include it that's bull*#%?.
midninte ranger they need to stop doing that. Include a clip already.
Hey nice video I live here in Buffalo NY too We should get together sometime
The squirt is better, lighter more capable I think
Bulky comparing to Swiss army knife I think it is poor tool if you see victorinox Spartan or complex they have much more tools with smaller size in pocket
Do they lock?
If SAK would incorporate a locking blade I'd own many more. Most people want a locking blade. This is one of the few options that do.
It is incredible how bad these tools are. Most implements seem rushed and not well thought through, the overall dimensions are comically large, compared to the space used up by the actual tools. Kinda the same vibes as the Ranger Grip models with pliers, better don't do it, if you have no clue how to do it right. Plier based multitools by leatherman are great, but this really seems like a desperat try.
