The Day Today came before KMKY, that featured Alan's TV debut as a sports newscaster.
And the lead host is Denholm Reynholm! ;)
Yeah and he did the radio 4 series knowing me knowing you before this too
Fact Me Till I Fart!
Jaaaaaaaam...
On the Hour came before The Day Today...
Back in the day, on I'm Alan Partridge, I very nearly died laughing watching Alan impale his foot on a fence spike, then have to give a motivational speech in the building inside.
Honestly I could NOT stop laughing and thought it was the end of me. 😂😂😂
Lynn, I've pierced me foot on a spiiiiiike
Some of these people have come from Stoke Lyn. You couldn't present.. a cat.
For me it was the episode with the farmers, I had Kenco coming out of my nostrils when he said he could feel an udder on his leg
Watch Steve Coogan - being Martin Brennan - an Irish farmer. Comedy gold.
This is comedy brilliance. Alan Partrige is a comedy genius 😂 Coogans best character 😂 great show.
The little song Alan sung to the cockney gangster was from the musical film, My Fair Lady (1964).
and taking the Michael (rise) out of the cockney persona.. insulting to many real cockney people..ie.. those born in East London within the sounds of Bow Bells.. Bow being a disrtrict of that area and whose church chimed those bells. A friend of mine's Mother ws born south of the river in Bermondsey. She always joked she was born within range of the sound of Bow Bells even though South of the River, as the saying goes, is not the East End.. because it was a high wind that day. lol. Nonsense of course and meant to be taken as a joke.
It's definitely worth watching more. This was before I'm Alan Partridge.
@3:51 ~ "with a little bit of bloomin luck" is from Stanley Holloway`s performance in the movie My Fair Lady. :-)
LOVE Alan Ford. Brick Top was an awesome character in Snatch…❤
OMG That's where I've seen him , Thank you ❤
@@tillyt4054you’re most welcome.. he also played Alan the barman who worked for Eddies dad (Sting) in Lock Stock.
Cockneys vs. Vampies!
He, actually, has a Police reconstruction of the dead body, outlined in chalk, on the studio door:)
The reference "In case you need to go to Spain, QUICKLY" refers to the fact that a mass of criminals bought homes in Spain because there is no "Extradition Treaty" between Spain and The UK so the criminals could not be brought back for trials and if the criminals heard that the police were after them, they could, quickly, flee to Spain.
Apparently that only applied until 1978. After that the criminals could be extradited back to Blighty provided it was for a crime with a sentence of more than one year and that was also a crime on the Spanish law books. Nevertheless, the south of Spain is still a popular place among British criminals.
You need to watch the full episodes of “ knowing me , Knowing you with Alan Partridge “ it’s comedy gold
Definitely! And then 'I'm Alan Partridge' after that.
Seconded
@@c_n_b The Day Today as well.
Agreed. Commenting to help this be seen. 😅👍🏻
@@c_n_b The Day Today also.
"You wanna get involved son, I'll get you involved!"
Hi Boomer. Terry Norton is actually based on Charlie Kray, the elder more respectable Brother of the Famous Kray Twins, both of whom spent life in prison. The irony was that Charlie was seen as the more 'straight going' one but here in the parody as well as the Brick Top stuff, he's shown as quite volatile. Also, Charlie Kray was also interviewed on some talk shows in the 90s.
One Coogan series that hardly ever gets mentioned is "Coogan's Run": a 6-part anthology series where he plays a different character each week. Anybody else remember it?
I do! 'Get Calf' was one of the best.
Have to watch the other Paul Calf shows first!
Gareth Cheesman
@@mrnmo6781 czcams.com/video/IUSXnnw0Yq0/video.html ? Paul Calf's Video Diary?
Handyman for All Seasons
There's an actual boxing promoter called Frank Warren, people call him Bricktop. He's been in the game for decades, always wears a suit, got a London accent, involved in shady goings on, was the victim of a failed assassination attempt... I think there's a slight nod to Frank in this.
The reference to needing go to Spain quickly is because Spain never used to have an extradition treaty with the UK. Spain was a prime choice for people on the run.
Alan Ford (Terry Norton) played Brick Top in the film Snatch and he was brilliant.
"The Day today" and later "Brass Eye" would be worth you checking out? Both Chris Morris (Denholm Reynholm) creations, the first with Armando Iannucci (The Death of Stalin) and an early version of Alan Partridge.
Alan Partridge on the sports desk 😂😂👍
I totally agree. If he likes Denholm, he'll love the myriad of characters from Chris Morris' own shows.
@@OzzpotJam is another. Very dark though
@@SouthCoastRichEAT MY GOAL!!!!!!
Watch the day today, thats got alan partridge in it and steve playing other characters but more importantly chris Morris who played first boss in it crowd and he is a genius
Alan Ford plays a great character in Toast of London, a cockney Homeopath, the juxtapostion is what makes it funny
Alan Partridge is probably my all time favourite comedy character and there's a gold mine of Alan material to discover. The two seasons of I'm Alan Partridge are absolute top tier Brit comedy. Glad to hear your reacting to it and I hope queen boomer is joining you because I think she'd love it too.
It's definitely worth watching. It's effing hilarious.
The Alan Partridge Alpha Papa movie is worth a watch
I remember he once said to a store assistant at Dixons (electrical retailers) that he ought to have a basic command of Latin.
You should definitely react to "I'm Alan Partridge" it's easily up there with some of the funniest TV series to come out of the UK
Alan Partridge has a connection with Reynholm Denholm of IT Crowd. Before the Alan Partridge Show there was a show called The Day Today. A spoof TV News show created by Chris Morris (who plays Reynholm Denholm of IT Crowd). Alan Partridge was the terrible Sports Presenter on the Day Today.
eg: czcams.com/video/GSf4NRE3OcI/video.html
Alan Partridge - Sports reporter, 1994
I nearly expired laughing at one episode of knowing me knowing you back in the day. I think it might have been the one with the hypnotist.
Tony le messer
I'm really old 😂 I remember Alan Partridge when he was on a spoof news radio show called on the hour, then appearing on the day today tv programme in the early 90s. Since then, he's gone from strength to strength 💪
BTW, smell my cheese. Is there anyone up for monkey tennis?
TWAAAAT !! , that was liquid footballl... EAT MY GOAL !!!
Did you see that? He must have a foot like a traction engine!
Thriiiikerrrrrr!
On the hour is the best
I remember listening to it in 1992. I loved that they named it "On The Hour' when they knew it would be broadcast at 6.30.
If you like Alan Ford you should watch the film cockneys vs zombies it’s very funny
That's one of the best "B-movies" I've ever seen, I always recommend it to people. It's not great in terms of all time movies, but in and of itself it's really good... The chase scene in the garden at the old people's home is such a good concept, it still makes me laugh when I think about it.
Ands has Pussy Galore in it too! The The great Honor Blackman
The Day Today and Brass Eye were before this, well worth a watch.
He was in a kids show Grange Hill_ similar to Degrassi Jr High playing a kids Dad back in the 80s
Have a butchers at Alan ford ..,,as Alan the homeopath in “ toast of London “ 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This sketch got Alan Ford noticed and he landed the role of Cockney gangster, Bricktop, in the film Snatch.
I love Alan Partridge. Grew up watching his stuff. 43 now and can't wait for his new show
Knowing Me Knowing You is great. Essentially a chat show with Alan annoying his guests and the other way around as well. The good thing is that the only real continuity element is that Alan had a chat show, so watching one before the other does not really matter.
AP meeting author Daniella Forrest is hilarious!
Loads of Alan Partridge material over the years one of the best british comedy characters. His newer show This Time with Alan Partridge is quite the piece of work as arguably some of his best in terms of videography
Worth a watch definately
The song is from the musical "My fair lady" and a classic mockney trope.
KMKY is comedy gold. Well worth a watch
There's also the Christmas episode called "Knowing me Knowing Yule"
Just to address any confusion with names in this skit, the show host is a character played by Steve Coogan called "Alan Partridge" and Alan Ford (same first name ik😅) is playing the character of the guest "Terry Norton" i got a bit confused by the video title the first time i saw it
Gormless has always been one of my favourite words.
my Father was Irish and was fond of calling my brother, in jest, a 'Gormless Gork' when he was a teenager. you know ... that farawat disengaged expression a growth spurt which affects teenager lads brains. lol. Or.. say we were driving in the countryside and saw a farmer and a lady walking cattle back for milking or something.. Ah there he is.. not looking what he's doing, the farmer's gormless gork. I met one up here in Suffolk one day.. I was at a local auctioneers and as well as house clearance and antiques they also sold small animals such as dead OR ALIVE rabbits, all sorts of chickens and bantums, duck, turkeys. all al ive in cages. a smattering of ferrets as well. Well this day I was heading to my car with a small item I had won at auction.. household item and an elderly man with a walking stick was shouting. at a teenage boy who looked very 'gormless' who was chasing a run away cockeral around the car park to much hilarity from the rest of us. He had been trying to get him into a box at the back of their car. lol. I had been brought up in the countryside elsewhere. and had just moved to Suffolk atfer 30 years in london. Not from a farm burt we had farmers and gamekeepers in the family. I felt HOME.. just in that one incident. That cockeral gave him a run for his money and was caught by two men who cornered it by a van. lol lol lol.. it was worth going out early that morning just for that. pure entertainment. lol. The old man when it was caught said.. You had one job to do for me boy. One job.. lol lol lol lol..
watch This Time With Alan Partridge...classic
5:05 - the Costa Del Sol in Spain is also nicknamed the "Costa Del Crime" because it's a known getaway spot for British gangsters.
IT'S BRILLIANT AND TIMELESS
The chat show format largely lays the foundation for his state of mind for subsequent series.
I thought of this when you did the Alan Ford sketch a few days ago 😆😆
Well worth the watch. I loved it when it first aired 😊
He's so damn funny, i miss some of the mock shows like this we used to have.
Ahh you have to watch knowing me, knowing you first!!
Spain had no extradition treaty with the UK (perhaps still doesn't), so people wanted by the police here would get out of the country and pop up in Spain, where the UK police couldn't touch them. There were so many dodgy Brits living there at one time, it was sometimes referred to as the "Costa Del Crime".
The saying of knowing me knowing you Aha is a song by ABBA. So he throws the Aha in refering to the song
Knowing Me Knowing You IS just like this. It's all Alan causing trouble with his guests lol
King Boomer this is great, so many thanks, but you have GOT to do Phoenix Nights at some point. I haven't seen you do anything on Peter Kay yet and some of his earlier stuff is brilliant, including this classic series.
English villains used to flee to Spain when the cops were after them as there was no extradition treaty.
KMKYWAP Was actually a radio series before it was on TV.
Look it up,its just as good.
Alan Partridge is by far the best, cleverest UK comedy in the last 30 years.
Your about to hear the great lines “ Eat my cheese you mother” and “fanny hair” then
The guy in the first clip you watched (not the barber), Armando Iannucci, is the creator and main writer of I’m Alan Partridge and this
Wow a blast from the past😂
Knowing Me Knowing You is brilliant.
I would recommend watching knowing me knowing you. It's gives I'm Alan Partridge more context.
This is all very well, but we should be discussing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre.
great stuff
You need to watch
'Big Train- is that a joke about me not being married?'
This came before I’m Alan Partridge.
I just cant wait for you and Queen Boomer to watch Friday Night Dinner season 6 😊
You really need to watch the spoof news program “the Day Today” it’s where Partridge originated & contains some of his funniest stuff.
Also before that was the radio show “On The Hour” which is truly hilarious & has Partridge
The Alan's Roger Moore Meltdown is also good!
the character alan ford is playing is based on proper east ender Frank Warren who is a boxing promoter (Tyson Fury's promoter at the moment) there is a great documentary about him and his life - including being shot himself
OMG. You really should watch "knowing me Knowing you " first. It gives you an understanding of the character. Whatever you watch, your in for a treat.
At the time this was made, there was no extradition treaty between the UK and Spain, so a lot of criminals on the run would head there. Hence the "just in case" comment about his spanish villa
Excellent. Watch tje full episodes though. Get the full jist of it. Good luck
Watch the "Alan's Obsessed Fan" episode. It's hilarious and wickedly weird.
Little bit of blooming luck from the musical My Fair Lady
Green Wing soon please, so many amazing wacky characters, such an original style, Olivia Coleman amongst others you'll now know :)
I don't know if anyone else watches WWE, but if you do, I hope you were as happy as I when the English wrestler Pete Dunne used the word "Muppet" properly on Smackdown this week.
You should watch a show called Episodes with Matt LeBlanc, probably his best performance since Friends,it's really good 😂
watch the one with the french clowns and the one with the cheeky American child actors.
You will really enjoy it :)
I’d do The Day Today then Knowing Me Knowing You x
Aha!!! Sorry. Couldn't resist.
You might want to watch Saxondale after all the Alan Partridge stuff. Another of his characters.
Knowing me knowing you was Alan at his peak and also why he will never work on tv again
good old BRICKTOP.
Just make sure you watch Knowing Me Knowing You. Another classic sketch is the Partridge Over Britain political debate which is disrupted by one of the guests.
In my opinion you should watch knowing me knowing you first, it does improve the viewing of I'm Alan Partridge 😂
I'm Alan Partridge is absolutely outstanding
I can't wait for you to see the ABBA medley
Lol at king boomer doing a disclaimer about a Muppet in a chair.. he must have been getting fried in the comments
Steve Coogan “AKA” Alan Partridge, great comedian 👏🏻
The Day Today. A news satire on the 24hr hyperbolic Fox News type stations of the 90s is where he started. Very very inappropriate and very funny.
Any Alan Partridge is worth watching. Maybe best to do the programmes in order though
He was good in American Wearwolf in London
KMKY is brilliant, especially Cheeky Monkey.
It's Bricktop.
😂❤
I'd definitely say it's worth doing KMKY first - there's an ABBA medley in there that's frankly stunning - Coogan doesn't often show his hand with music, but I suspect he may well have quite the talent there.
Look up his less successful character Tony Ferrino...
❤
Can’t recommend this show enough. You and Queen boomer would love it. The show has a cult following with a lot of US comedians who rate Steve Coogan very highly. Sadly it wasn’t taken up by any major network. I think they maybe saw it as too British and wouldn’t translate well.
Knowing Me Knowing You is definitely worth watching but is arguably not as good as I'm Alan Partridge (both series). The character was a bit more developed and complex by then. It would be great to see some more reaction videos to Alan!
I loved I'm Alan Partridge but couldnt get into his other stuff
