I'd wager that individual consumers each having to drive to the store just to get a few items and then drive home is actually much less fuel efficient than the delivery driver who makes one trip with everyone's stuff and drops it off at each house along the way.

I’ve worked in an Amazon warehouse for 2 years. It’s one of the better jobs I’ve had. Items go through more handling than a regular store (I’ve also worked flow team at Target & Wal-Mart) So, please don’t order bottled water. I remember when Wal-Mart & Microsoft used to get a ton of criticism, then a lot of business shifted to Amazon & Apple and so did the criticism. I expect another biz to take a lot of Amazon’s market share eventually, then similar criticism will follow, which will mostly be Made in China bad, if CEO poor, other workers will be rich, small biz always good, USA citizens should feel guilty for shopping (even though we’re only 5% of the globe), etc. Everyone recognizes the brand, so criticism of big business is easy $.

    • @JustaGuy_Gaming
      @JustaGuy_Gaming Před 6 měsíci +1

@@jeremyf9124 It's hit or miss, and it heavily depends on where you work. Weak, old or other wise physically impaired people tend to get easier jobs like sorting small packages that weigh 5lbs or less. The real hard jobs are where your expected to lift 30lb or more packages all shift.
And yes breaks or bathroom trips are often taken against you. Though they depend on the manager of your location obviously but the insane quota's amazon ask them to fill often pushes them into "Bad practices". The mere fact they pay well above minimum wage and yet still have a high turn over of employee's tells you a lot about the job.
It's a decent short term job to get a little extra money, especially as holiday hire where they pay even more than normal for temps. But your "record" of going the bathroom and other demerits to your standing does not work long term. Rack enough up and you get fired, only real way to deal with it is not stay long enough for it to matter.

This video was followed by an ad for a toy that can only be purchased online.
It keeps becoming harder not to buy online when stores keep closing, including bookstores, stationary stores, electronic stores, housewares stores, hardware stores, appliance stores, etc. The stores that still exist (like department stores, drugstores, grocery stores) often encourage us to purchase online instead of in the stores.
It's interesting that some cities discourage people from getting bags by having a bag tax, while people can instead order the same thing online and have it come in a large cardboard box with packing materials and large address label stickers that make parts of the box un-recyclable.

Whenever I buy a new book for my kindle, I always look at the 1 and 2 star reviews because a lot of authors give out free books to their beta readers so that they will give glowing 5 star reviews. It sucks and makes me distrustful of them. I once read a book that was highly rated and it gave me a headache trying to understand it. If someone had given the author an actual critique then maybe they would have known not to write in a stream of consciousness, I would have known who was speaking and when and I would have also known that it wasn’t a complete book. I really like to read self published authors and over time I have watched some of them grow as a writer but some of them….need to stop. Lol

As someone who worked at Amazon for nearly five years* this is so incredibly accurate that it hurts. Especially about the warehouse workers--Jeff Bezos literally wanted to make Amazon a hellish place to work so that most people would just leave after a couple of years and they'd leave for something better. And looking back on it, it makes me scared how overseas Amazon employees are treated. Not to mention how Amazon is also big on Greenwashing despite their claims.
Though... consider things like the Great Resignation, Amazon getting sued by both the FTD and numerous other businesses, and of course groups like Honest Ads, maybe karma/change is finally starting to come their way. :)
*Note: For anyone who is interested, I left June of this year and while my new job isn't quite what I want, it's definitely much better and I think it'll give me a chance to pursue things I actually want to do, especially since I have a college education.

I have a lot against Amazon, endlessly putting things on back order after you order it, delaying "2 day Prime Shipping" for weeks as they keep sending it to the wrong location or other errors. But "package not delivered" is rarely much an issue. When it does happen customer support is almost always willing send out another one at no cost or refund me. If you complain a bit more in a polite way get a gift card or two for the hassle.
it's actually one of the down sides of being a seller on Amazon. They almost always take the customers side on issues, potentially costing sellers thousands as people falsely claim to not get stuff or that it's broken.

As true as this is, lots of people live in areas where local shopping opportunities are very sparse. Do you order online or drive an hour each way to get to some specialty store? Because that's much more gas you buy & burn up, much more wear & tear on your car. Oh and Amazon probably sells the thing cheaper. Many Americans can barely afford to support mom & pop stores either. Thrift stores are also dying off due to a lack of variety, because most of them I go into are 60% clothing items & the rest is stuff people "donated", which is to say they were going to throw it in the trash but chose instead to give it to a shop to show the world they're a "good person", after which a lot of it won't even sell because 99% of the shoppers there donated the same things.
Oh and overseas shopping sites. Do I buy some OFFICIALLY LICENSED product at a massive price tag or do I buy some knockoff that's a third the price, but somehow better quality? At the expense of a 2 to 3 week transit time & a giant headache to fix if it arrives broken.
The video also fails to mention that Amazon has been known to ban accounts for "too many" returns, but never states what that percentage of returned items is, with it almost being dependent on the account rather than a set percentage. So yeah return your stuff, until it makes them mad. Banned accounts also lose gift cards and points and stuff like that with no compensation.
Now do a video on how Paypal will freeze your account if you receive a lot of money at once.

I'd wager that individual consumers each having to drive to the store just to get a few items and then drive home is actually much less fuel efficient than the delivery driver who makes one trip with everyone's stuff and drops it off at each house along the way.
And whether it's a local department store or an online store's warehouse, they both have to ship the products to their location. Very few places actually manufacture the products in the same location that they sell them. And if they do make them on-site, it's likely a far less efficient process than using automation in a factory

Fun fact: for every dollar spent on local stores 48% goes back into the local community compared to the 14% from chain and online stores.

When I go local stores and they make me ring up $200 in merchandise in the self checkout, while employees hang out and no one wants to run a register, then I'm happy to let Amazon Prime ship it to my door for free. Self checkout was the biggest F U to ever hapoen to shopping.

They regularly screw up delivery in my area.
It might be the shippers, but they have to know and should give better delivery estimates.
And they should let us complain about late deliveries or lost items in the review.

So the delivery is not amazon. All amazon deliveries are handled by third party companies and there is a way in either the amazon app or the website to make those complaints, and you really should because believe it or not amazon takes those seriously, and if the Delivery Service Partner gets to many bad metrics they can loose their contract to deliver for amazon.
