Better known as @Hushpuppi, the young Nigerian became a fixture among the global elite as fashion houses showered him with gifts. But his fame would ultimately be his downfall.

      Actually, yes he did.
He came from a poor part of town with little money, and saw that others had more and wanted it at any cost.
That becomes an addiction, thus he moved to KL initially then Dubai to get a piece of international cash.
His flaunting of wealth is re-affirmation of his self-importance.
This conspicuous consumption is all part of the same issue.
In our society, money and opulence implies power but that was not the initial driver.
The 'Yahoo boys" are all after quick bucks and a nice lifestyle.

Assuming he spent that energy as a software developer in Nigeria, he may probably never experience a tenth of the wealth he had unless he got a big break to a well paying job most likely in Europe or North America. Like they said in this video, I know so many people that worked very hard for their money, rich and also poor, and a lot of them love to flex their financial accomplishments online. I also find this corny, but it's incredibly common human behaviour. They are seeking validation to satisfy their egos.
The rich flex about their trips on a private jet, while the poor flex about the second hand iPhone 8 that they afforded to buy after saying for 6 months. The behaviour is the same, the only difference is the amount of money displayed.

That wealth parading (false or plundered, most rich people who earn their money through hard work usually do not flash it like that) is the model many African children and young adults have these days. You ask them "what do you want to be" and most answer "rich". They copy their elders and leaders, and if the hype is to flash wealth, cars, designer clothes, shoes and accessories, etc, that would be what they want for their future, at all costs. That just hints a difficult future for these children.

The thing is, scammers such as Hush puppi are highly intelligent, hardworking and persistent. If they applied their intelligence to an honorable career they would attain the success and wealth they are looking for. Of course it may not be to this magnitude. However I can understand as a fellow Nigerian that they are are in a country that does not provide upward mobility, there is little room for success(unless you’re from a wealthy family), and a government that treats it’s citizens like animals. You get treated like an animal long enough, you start behaving like one.

The irony in this statement.. I believe his choice to publicize ill-gotten wealth on the internet and the greed that eventually got him "Busted" is enough proof to show he wasn't that intelligent.. There are Yahoo boys now with more money than Jail-Puppy and DON'T have IG accounts or Facebook.. And no one knows their name.. That's intelligence

The ability for him to amass such wealth undetected for so long, from such an impoverished environment DOES speak to his intelligence. A lot of those “Yahoo boys” are playing with their daddy’s money…that’s not intelligence. That’s luck.

Hushpappi comes from a generation that has watched Nigerian politicians and elites acquire luxurious properties and items at the expense of the powerless, this is a country with the biggest economic GDP index in Africa but not ranked in the top5 when it comes to standard of living or access to services. They have very wealthy politicians and businessmen working with multinationals to enslave the people in the name of cheap labor. Nigerian youth have grown up watching politicians driving million dollar vehicles and buying private jets, they will go to any limit to aquire wealth at all costs since the elders have set a bad example
