Adlious has a connection to American rock royalty, despite being a Japanese band. Their drummer Marina Bozzio (who recently stepped down for health reasons), who is full-blooded native-born Japanese, is the step-daughter of Terry Bozzio, the legendary drummer for Frank Zappa and Missing Persons! She learned a lot of her drum skills from him.
Aldious were one of the first of the new wave of Japanese girl-metal bands to form in the early 2000’s, along with Destrose, Cyntia and existTtrace. They are, in their hearts, a metal band, but have done a lot of exploring of various styles and genres.
Personnel:
Yoshi has been the constant (founder, lead guitar, band manager, audience right).
Toki (co-lead guitar, pink Flying-V, audience left) joined a year later and has also been a constant, except in 2019 when she took time off to have a baby (during that time, Narumi toured with them for a year, in between solo projects).
Sawa (bass) was there briefly at the beginning, left, and rejoined in 2010.
Marina (drums) replaced Aruto, the original drummer, in 2014. Marina is the step daughter of the legendary Terry Bozzio, who played with Frank Zappa for almost two decades.
As with many of the Japanese bands, Aldious have a rock solid rhythm section, over which the guitars and vocals have free range to do their thing.
The biggest changes have been at vocals. Rami, the original vocalist, left in 2012 and Re-No took over. Their most commercially successful period was with Re-No, despite some controversy among their fans over whether she was “metal” enough. Re-No retired for medical reasons in 2018, and R!N stepped in. They seem to have bad luck with this position, as R!N announced she was leaving as of July 2021, also for medical reasons, after recording a few songs.
Fans have vigorously debated the very different styles of the three women, with Rami being considered the most “metal” but all three bringing a unique sound to the mix. Maki Oyama has been filling in at vocal for some performances. She herself has an extensive resume, having worked with a lot of other artists as well as her own solo projects. The question now is whether they will find a permanent vocalist. Oyama-san appears reluctant to sign on permanently, perhaps because the position is hexed (she has never said that, it’s just my speculation).
Marina recently announced she will be leaving in mid 2024, to deal with medical issue. With her impending departure, they face another lineup crisis, and we can only hope that they are able to come through again.

This last one features a spectacular collaboration with classical violinist Chieko Kinbara; it suggests Aldious could have gone in a symphonic rock direction if they chose.
Aldious was one of the first Japanese all female metal bands that started the all female metal scene in Japan. I went down the Japanese rock/metal rabbit hole and have been delighted. This song features the second singer of Aldious Re:NO. My favorite of their singers is Rami, their first singer. Recommend songs - Luft (Music Video) Reupload, Spirit Black (Music Video) Reupload.
I suspect that Show Ya are probably one of the first all female Japanese rock bands.

Just to let you know they have 9 studio albums every one made Billboard Japan top 100 albums.
They have about 80 songs In their Discography and not one bad song in the bunch. And they wrote their own songs except one which is a cover. They are a Power Metal band. But they have sings in a ton of different genres.

Aldious are the OGs when it comes to Japanese all-girls metal - Try “Show Down” for something different with the more best vocalist, or “Megalomaniac” live for more of this only harder. Their song “Re:Fire” is probably my favorite overall - live is always better with Aldious if you can find them.

ALDIOUS is by far my fav band from Japan during the time ReNO was the singer (2012 - 2018), before and after they were very good as musicians but the singers before and after ReNO were ok but not like this real woman (over 30) as ReNO is with a real special singing style very different from a lot of other female japanese Rock/Metal singers ...
