Black DJs who first started playing their songs named him blue-eyed soul. The Righteous Brothers music opened the door for crossover between black stations and white stations back in the 60s.

Back in the day the cameras couldn't follow the artist very well so they would tell them that if they are going to dance, then they have to stay in one place. That made for some awkward dance moves.
