It wouldn't spill in a real plane either, if you roll correctly ;)

I was a crew chief on A-10s from '86-'92 out of Myrtle Beach AFB. I used to do my engine run qualifications in a real A-10 simulator. It was a multi-million dollar simulator controlled by a mainframe and it had NO outside visuals. Your work on this is amazing! I bet our pilots would have loved to have something like this to train in before going up on their first flight. Being a 1 seater they were solo on their first flight.
This was my jet: czcams.com/video/JatXy8oQIqY/video.html
@@vmdirt that is so cool!
This is so right. I just watched a documentary about the Vietnam air war & how the F4 Phantom crews weren’t as successful as they had hoped, which led the navy to instigate the Top Gun training scheme, at Myramar; they came back after 3 weeks training & were on top form. That classic “I’ll put the brakes on, and he’ll fly right by me” manoeuvre, was an actual thing!
Imagine the cost of this setup compared to the monumental cost something the government would try and create.
@@TABRO284 The government would put 10s of millions into research, the whole setup would be at least 5 mil, and it wouldn't be nearly as effective as a training tool as something a lot of civilians make. Even having an ultrawide 4K monitor, the HOTAS Warthog, and some addon avionics panels would be more effective as training tool than anything the military would come up with.
People’s creativity never ceases to amaze me - from you building the best warthog simulator ever in a spare bedroom to whoever coded that screen warping software
As a pilot i've seen some pretty cool professional and home made simulators, but mans this is easily one of the top 3! this is truly amazing, and honestly you're pretty humble to just say "this is pretty cool", no no this is awesome! congrats
9:29 "its actually pretty easy" lmfao. I tried to hang a shelf on the wall, when I put my gals picture on it, the whole thing fell to the floor. time for another beer.
Im a simple man, I see The Warthog Project uploaded a new vid, I give it a thumbs up
Same I see this comment I give it a thumbs up
I was going through my sketches for a setup with 3 40" TVs to achieve 180 degree FOV and decent immersion, then I saw this and now all of those plans are in the trash. This is the ultimate build. It is truly amazing and utterly inspiring. This is what I want for my general aviation pit. I'd never leave the house. Very well done, man!
Does the lack of a projector covering the roof not impact? I guess for an A-10 it never would but for a fighter sim the lack of above view would hinder massively.
Maybe an idea for a follow up video it you are inclined to fly an air superiority jet?
Amazing build - Well done.
Luv and Peace.
@@ianedmonds9191 Not really sure how to solve that problem. You would have the same issue with monitors as well.
@@JohnVanderbeck I guess VR is the only real solution but that comes with other compromises.
@@ianedmonds9191 Totally does. Right now I'm working on building as close to a 1:1 hornet cockpit as I can to use in VR. The hope being if everything lines up, then it will work. That's about the best I can think to do right now.
When the new Flight sim comes out this man is never leaving his house again, and I wouldnt blame him :D
Juuldebuul ffing epic dude
Hell yea. Especially if he had 3 4k short throw projectors
@@htxsupercrewon22s a 3080ti would be useful
New flight sim probably won't support multiple viewports so he'd realistically be limited to 100 degrees. Not even close to 270 that he has now.
How would you even know if you can't tell the difference. o.O
his turn coordination so good that the beer never even spilled a drop!
Next week he'll be attaching wings to his house and a gun to the window on the other side of that 270 degree screen.
Great job man, very very cool setup! Attention to detail is artistry and passion!

Been watching this channel for a long time. Absolutely beautiful project and a lot of hard work but well worth it. Thank you for sharing it and providing the detail instructions on each section.
You are Crazy, and you created an EPIC screen setup. Congrats!
"This is pretty epic."
And the award for understatement of the year goes to: The Warthog Project.
Good use of hand in front of camera to explain things.
This truly transcends gaming. Time well spent. Inspirational.
Wow - I was impressed the first video I seen of you and this setup. Now with the 3rd Projector - WOW!!!!!
Awesome! Nice work, it looks great.
This was by far the craziest use of surround screens I've seen. Amazing work! The Military should really pay you to make these sims for them.
Whoah, impressive. Love the little "cool" at the end, how understated.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to share this beautiful sim.
You make all of us sim guys look bad. Great Job that is epic!
Awesome! Just finished all the parts for my own, took the extrastep and made it a full circle. I really cannot wait to put it together, paint it and get the screens warped. Your little instructions there wil help me a lot. Thanks for that, mate, perfect timing :)
Stay well!
Awesome. We need a video when that's done!
@@thewarthogproject Its finished, at least I'm working 214 of 360 at the moment :)
I have a question about usage of DCS, are you able to zoom in the warped setting? I'm not and that makes DCS unplayable for me :/
Your input on this topic would be really appreciated! Thanks :)
The dedication and passion for this set up is really inspiring, well done. 👏
Thanks for showing this mate - there's 3 of us down here in Melbs looking at cockpit projects and this has opened up a whole new rabbit hole - much appreciated!
You are an amazing and very gifted person. Well done on your creation. I love it! I have enough trouble just understanding how to map everything. AWESOMENESS much!!!

Impressive work. Much better than VR in that you have access to all the controls in the cockpit and no vertigo. The reasons why airlines use this king of thing for pilot training. I cannot imagine the number of hours it took to build all this.

What a incredibly beautiful and most impressive simulation this is...!!! The way you can calibrate this system... wow i love this video...!!!
next you have to do the front canopy rail and a HUD so you can ditch 3d pit permanently
Yes! I bet that would help the frame rate too.
@@tristanpatterson3843 This causes shadow on the screen :( Projectors from the other side would help. What about an airdome with blow up technic? Go in, close, blow up and you habe a full dome screen?
i would love to try mechwarrior in a similar setup to this that's so cool
This is absolutely incredible! You're my hero!
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!
When this is finished you've got to get an actual warthog pilot to come and try it out. :)
Now you need to build a physical canopy bow and square for the hud and you can just turn off the cockpit completely.
Yeah! That IS pretty epic! Awesome, thanks for the inspiration! 😄
Your 180 degree screen with your amazing A-10 cockpit was already mind blowing. This is unbelievable crazy amazing! Very interresting to see how the projector calibration works! Always wondered how these Elite Dangerous curved projector screens work. Thanks for explaining this!

FINALLY a tutorial for the setup, thank you so much man!
Absolutely stunning work! Many congrats for the project so far. As with all of the other clips of yours I’ve seen, so much attention to detail but very clear and easy to follow. Very engaging, watched this clip from start to finish as wanted to see the end result. BTW, I like the cheeky bottle holder - nice touch.
Beer in the cockpit. That feature is missing on a real Warthog ;o)
Looks amazing! Just a quick tip: lua is pronounced "loo-ah". It's actually a full-fledged programming language, DCS just uses it for scripting stuff.
All that and the final result "that's pretty cool" MAN THATS AMAZING
I need this for my sim racing!!!! Excellent job mate!
now you just need a monster sound system for the engine and gun
And deaf neighbours...
Just a beer tap and espresso machine to go and it will be complete.

Words fail me.... so i'm just gonna sit here and dribble! Stunning!
I want that sooo bad for Star Citizen! I'll have to convince my wife first lol
Damn I wish I had this + headtracing for elite dangerous [Incoming december / new year update].
Damn at that point Star Citizen will be obsolete [well they already took more than 300mln dollars and still in alpha with lack of content + bugs existing for 8 years]
I just want to know when it goes into mass production and will it all fit into one crate for shipping to D.C. 😁
This week announced, A-10 will operational till 2040. They will need more than one simulator
People like you are what gives the internet it's value. Which is priceless imho
Wow i'm really impressed. You are the masters of domes!
Whats the advantage over having the screen and projector setup over a VR headset?
You could still have the entire physical cockpit around you as well! It would be even more realistic! They have those wrist trackers and everything too, that'd be so cool!
This is totally dope also haha
Ive got VR and Im planning a video to answer your question! There are pros and cons to each- but i've had VR for years now and this project still continued...
The Warthog Project Well I’ll be subscribed and waiting! This is an awesome project, so jealous!
Agreed, they both have their pros/cons. Ended up sticking with VR for the motion platform but this video makes me rethink going back to the triple Benq's on the cylinder screen :)
Beautiful to look at
@@thewarthogproject what city are you from? I'm in Brisbane if you ever want to try motion or fly together :)
Well the biggest pro to this over VR is that you can see your hand to grab the beer.
Mate, if you really want to get a divorce, you really need to go and talk to Chris as CKAS simulators in Tullamarine. Get yourself a motion platform :-) The significant other will love it!
The reason why woman doesnt like it and want a family car, is because of lack of extra seats for kids.
I've looked at many monitor setups and other diy setups with TV's and what not but this is hands down the coolest, best setup for a screen I have ever seen. You just inspired my dream star citizen setup lmao
One word.........EPIC!
Great addition to the sim pit. I work as a simulator technician - I find manual warping relaxing in a somewhat strange way. What a fantastic piece of warping software! Is the edge blend somewhat noticeable when flying a night sortie?
Cheers! Yeah it definatly is noticeable at night. I never really fly DCS at night anyway, it looks bad regardless of the edge blend. Plus bad blacks is just the nature of my cheap projectors. DCS (Daylight Combat Simulator) !
@@thewarthogproject "DCS (Daylight Combat Simulator)" LOLz. I haven't flown a night mission in years come to think of it. I hit trees too often flying in the middle of the day to try night again.
Now you just need the hydraulics. 😋
*sound of my jaw hitting the floor* Absolutely stunning work. You just made me throw all my plans for an Elite Dangerous simpit in the trash.
Stunning Job!
I'm surprised that the image is in focus across the curve when these projectors are designed to project onto a flat surface.

Lets be friends i live in Australia. What beer do u drink :)
Mate, that is astonishing.
This would be outstanding for a racing simulation too! Now I just need space enough to set it up! Great video! Thanks!
he gon freak out when he finds vr
This setup gets beaten easily by VR when it comes to immersion.
No. 1- there is a difference in the movement of the camera inside the virtual space according to the movements of the accelerometer built into the VR helmet and the actual movement of the head 2 - Depending on the viewing angle and involving peripheral vision, the real resolution in this installation is much higher, because here the resolution of the projectors is tripled (potentially 4K x3), and in the helmet the resolution is divided by 2 (i.e. maximum 4K /2). 3 - Here the tension of the eye muscles and lens is much lower due to the distance to the plane on which you need to focus your eyes. 4- real control panels 5- And if you compare the cost of three projectors and one suitable helmet? ...
@@capsyatina the point was IMMERSION, and by depth perception alone, this setup, while impressive, is beaten.
Agree, VR does this and so much more. Also this is a FLAT2D image, VR has REAL DEPTH, Real Scale of the world, also you can view UP (a welcome feature for combat plane)..or back, you are not stuck to one cockpit control panel, etc. There are multiple valid reasons to overcome this setup with VR.
Dude this setup is so dope! I didn’t know this was something you good even do your. Pretty sick! 🤙
the only way it is cool to drink and fly! cheers my friend, nice project!!
