- Travel to Greenland means experiencing a unique Inuit culture - and Icebergs! Ilulissat is one of the world's most remarkable destinations. Situated where the UNESCO recognised Ilulissat Icefjord enters Disko Bay, the town watches over a procession of icebergs that mesmerise with their fantastical shapes and colours. It is also a centre for sledge-dog culture and the howls of the dogs are an ever-present soundtrack. This short film provides a brief history of the settlement and also visits the Icefjord Centre, the Icefjord itself, and the Knud Rasmussen museum before taking to the water to view the icebergs up close. Thank you to Casper Christensen of Disko Line Explorer for providing a fascinating insight into the impact of climate change on this unique location.

Great work ! Thank you !
Knud and I would've gotten along just fine, "give me winter, give me dogs, and you can keep the rest."
Excellent documentary, thank you sir.
So proud of the people of Greenland for reclaiming their culture. Congrats!

I booked a tour to Ilulissat for 2024!!! ❤
You'll love it!
I am so jealous
Went in 2003. I'd love to come back but travel is too expensive at the moment, and I live in Australia.
Very interesting!
Its Truly amazing how Inuit people are so brilliant at survival I hope to get to Greenland 🇬🇱 one day The only problem is you need a fist full of dollars
Nice! Been there playing piano In Hvide Falk...nice places and lots of rememebers.
Great video! Wish I had money to travel to Greenland and other places. Are there polar bears and moose’s there?
Small addition. In recent years, most glaciers in Disko Bay have been growing again. Some with about thirty meters per year!
Terrific clip. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!
What camera did you use for your film. I hope to go myself next month and worry about my gopro batteries not handling the temperatures.
A DJI Pocket and a Sony Handycam. I doubt that you'll have any issues.
Thanks very much for replying.@@TravelObscurer
Give me winter and a ' cat ' and you can keep the rest😅.
'As long as you have the right thermal clothing on, of course.' For a moment I thought that was a segue to your sponsor. :-)
A sponsor?! That would be nice:)
@@TravelObscurer How about the howling dogs!!! They had a lot to say!!!

A fantastic video, so informative are there any whales in the bay or other wildlife? We are booked to visit Greenland in June and July 2025. I just subscribed and looking forward to leaning about Greenland. Thank you!
Thank you! Yes, there are various species of whales found in the waters of Disko Bay
@@TravelObscurer Great! MY Wife and I love photographing all wildlife! We have been all over the world photographing wildlife, most recently Antarctica
great video
Thank you!
Cool
Is February a good month to visit ilulisat?
Amazing I’m going to ilulisat tomorrow . When was this filmed?
Filmed four weeks ago. Have fun!
WOW!!!!
It must be cities undeneath that ice since the all planeta has turned In diferent positions like the south pole we're they found remains of tropical forest
Barren wasteland, no trees, few birds and animals, a scorching 45 degrees in August, life threatening in winter, four layers of insulation. Yup, what a thrill to sit all day half frozen and watch the icebergs drift by. There's a reason the population of the whole island is 55,000. Heck, I can freeze to death in Wisconsin, don't need to spend all that money to visit an ice cube. To each her own, right?
There are climate changes since the men is on the earth. Climate changes is a way of earn money.
The fact that you don't understand unfortunately doesn't change the fact that it is the truth that climate is changing rapidly.

W we won’t quibble that it’s not actually evidence of anything other than they are melting. The two do not necessarily cause and effect. Particularly since the ice sheet ice w stretched to northern France and covered much of Britain. But of course we know context should always be ignored and everything that happens has only ever happened for the first time recently…since the last time it happened.
Great video could do without out the climate change rhetoric mind
It baffles me that people like you, who want to remain ignorant to climate change, still walk this earth. And climate change is having a significant effect on the people of Greenland. Be better!
Boaring vlog 😴
