I truly regret hating Anakin Skywalker as a 7 year old. He is actually one of the most well written heroes of all time. Anakin wasn't just a boy with issues. He was a young man who had everything stolen from him at birth, and lived his life as a slave. He only wanted to find freedom, but unfortunally, he was shackled at every conceivable moment. He was not evil, he was confused, tricked, and had done horrible things to appease his masters. Only through becoming one with the force, did he truly experienced freedom. As an adult, you start to realize, Anakin's story is far more relatable than Luke's. Luke in my opinion, is the innocence of youth, while Anakin is the harsh realities of life after you become an adult. Well done Hayden. Well done Matt. You both made this character a truly amazing person. Lucas was a genius.
To enter Anakin's mind as Lord Vader. To witness such atrocities, and horrors makes you wonder how he did not go insane at all. Yet remained utterly distrought and depressed. That just living was a nightmare... To lose everyone and everything you loved just because you were foolish to believe in a false friend offering false promises and realizing that "friend" now controls you. And all you have of your old life are memories...and nightmares followed by regrets forever haunting you...With no way of forgetting them...and his mind forever stuck in a loop of his downfall while wearing the most uncomfortable life support suit that is your only reason that is keeping you alive... Anakin's life. Lord Vader's life. Is a Lovecraft story. Dark, maddening, sorrowful and utterly insane... Im sure he had several breakdowns in his meditation chamber. Behind the badassness...there is only pain. A broken heart...for a broken person...Who fell victim to a lie.
@@xxxjo31992irl If our universe if infinite, then Darth Vader and the Star Wars story is real somewhere, infinitely. So who knows...perhaps we will find out the universe is infinite and can come back and 'lol' at your idiocy.
@@Tarack1 not necessarily. Even the smallest probabilities (1/100000000..) can and will be real in an infinite universe, but not impossibilities (0/1). So, some things are just impossible.
Well, he did escape. He managed to overcome it in the end. Through his love for his son and his son's faith in him. Anakin, as Vader knew he had no one. No one would forgive him or love him, and for the horrific things that he continued doing, he'd burn in hell; except now, Luke would love him. So he saved Luke, sacrificed himself. He still believed he'd rot in hell, he didn't know he'd be forgiven by Obi-Wan and become a force ghost, but he would sustain all that pain and guilt and remorse because at least he would have the love of his son. That was enough.
I closed my eyes while listening and I could hear Obi-Wan saying, "You were my Brothers Anakin, I loved You!" Then after I could hear Anakin yelling in pain, " I HATE YOU!!!"
This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever: The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain. The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew at your flesh. You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. You don’t even have lungs anymore. Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever. "Lord Vader? Lord Vader, can you hear me?" And you can’t, not in the way you once did. Sensors in the shell that prisons your head trickle meaning directly into your brain. You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you. Or perhaps the simulacrum is perfect, and it is the world that is hideous. Padme? Are you here? Are you all right? you try to say, but another voice speaks for you, out from the vocabulator that serves you for burned-away lips and tongue and throat. "Padme? Are you here? Are you all right?" "I’m very sorry, Lord Vader. I’m afraid she died. It seems in your anger, you killed her." This burns hotter than the lava had. "No…no, it is not possible!" You love her. You have always loved her. You could never will her death. Never. But you remember… You remember all of it. You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth… And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker. That it was all you. Is you. Only you. You did it. You killed her. You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself… It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith - Because now yourself is all you will ever have. And you rage and scream and reach through the Force to crush the shadow who has destroyed you, but you are so far less now than what you were. You are more than half machine, you are like a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf, you can remember where the power was but the power you can touch is only a memory, and so with all your world-destroying fury it is only droids around you that implode, and equipment, and the table on which you were strapped shatters, and in the end, you cannot touch the shadow. In the end, you do not even want to. In the end, the shadow is all you have left. Because the shadow understands you, the shadow forgives you, the shadow gathers you unto itself- And within your furnace heart, you burn in your own flame. This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker. Forever…
Just finished reading Brotherhood by Mike Chen. He alludes several times to things from the ROTS Novelization. “furnace heart” “the dragon” “this is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker” “The Hero With No Fear” and “Kenobi and Skywalker” It’s heartbreaking. He’s such a well written tragic character. I firmly believe that Anakin Skywalker might be one of the most complicated characters ever, it was just nearly impossible to portray his internal monologue well in the films.
amazing thing you've put together here. it really reinforces the concept of anakin having every right to become the villain. Star Wars is legitimately the greatest tragic story ever, and anakin the greatest tragic hero.
Oh Ani.. You were a wounded child... look what happened to you... how much sadness, how much pain, how much suffering... how much more are you willing to endure? Look who you've become... You know I just realized something, Anakin was supposed to be a Christ character. But what people don’t think about is when Christ went to hell and back. And we saw it here, we saw him die, spend his time in absolute misery and suffering as Vader, then be resurrected again before joining the force.
