This type of music is called Dikir Barat. It originated from the state of Kelantan in Malaysia. This is only half of the real performance. For a full Dikir Barat performance there would be the leading singer who would sing a poem like lyric akin to the rapping style. The leading singer would sing out the lyric spontaneously, and he will keep the verses to be in rhymes. The winner in any Dikir Barat competition is the leading singer who could sing the best spontaneous and rhymic verses, as well as being by accompanied by his/her background singing group that successfully complement the leading singer with every beat and choral cheer that makes the performance harmonious and enjoyful.
