  • In this extra long episode of The Bible Uncut, RL Watson interviews author David Wilber about his book "How Jesus Fulfilled the Law."
Centered around Matthew 5:17-20, RL and David discuss the meaning of 'fulfil' and 'abolish' according to its historical, linguistic, and textual context, emphasizing the importance of how our understanding of these words need to be consistent with the rest of the passage.
They also get into Marcionism, understanding Jesus' teaching of "unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees", and responding to critiques of David's conclusions and positions.
This episode will certainly bless you as help build your understanding of this often cited part of Jesus' teachings.

Interesting discussion. I agree with David's premise.
I don't understand how God can write His law on the hearts of Israel, which is the New Covenant - Jer. 31:31-34, vs 33 mentions writing on Israel's heart, if Jesus "abolished" the law by fulfilling that same law. IF it's no longer in effect, what will God write on their hearts?
Isa 2:2-4 mentions in the last days that the people will go up to God's holy mountain and God's law will go forth from Zion. Another prophecy that can't be fulfilled if God's law is done away with.
