This ride had nothing on shock wave when it comes to concussions
Just went today and the last few minutes of the ride my head would hit the side back and fourth
The middle of the train is a little smoother than the rear and front. Keep youre head back helps out a lot. Realize its a hardcore looper. Keep it where it is. Unless they bring back the Shockwave. Its big brother
They should get vekoma trains with the vest restraints. They are like the vest restraints on x flight
Just hold your head back and you'll be fine. I've got on this thing hundreds of time and as long as you hold your head back, it won't bang back and forth in the restraint. It's not a big deal.

This too was my first roller coaster the thing I don't like about it tho is that u have to stable ur head bc if u don't ur head goes hitting the sides of the gadgets u r put into but the rest it's so awesome

at one point when you are climbing the hill, it drops back a bit and scares me so much

This.ride.was.transformed.into.the.Demon.by.1980...it.used.to.be.called.Turn.Of.The.Century.when.the.amusement.park.first.opened.up.in.1976...then.afterwards.they.had.to.change.a.few.parts.of.the.rollercoaster...which.had.hills..that.each.rider.was.forced.to.lift.up.an.inch.from.their.seats.when.the.rollercoaster.went.down.fast...then.they.replaced.those.hills.with.2.vertical.loops.and.added.the.tunnels

I went on this when it first opened -- it was so cool back then! It was the first roller-coaster I went on that had both types of loops in it. Riding it at night was the best; there was steam coming out of the demon's mouth, and the eyes would glow. The best thing, though, was the dorky song that would play while you were waiting in line: "The Demon is gonna getcha!"

JewelChick01 I wrote this ride when it first came out I was probably 11 or 12 and there was steam in the tunnel as you went up the hill and then the lights you see in the tunnel here we're always there for a while and now I think they took both the Steam and the lights away which to me is ridiculous because those two elements make the ride just a little bit more sweeter

I love this ride!! The only bad thing is at the end you hit your head on the head rest.
I have fond memories of this coaster, dating back to before it was themed The Demon and didn't have the double loops. When they added that in the late 70's it was a certifiably big deal. This thing is over forty years old and still looks like fun. Rides like this in the 70's were painful AND WE LIKED IT.
That’s awesome ! I love classics like this. Hopefully they continue to keep these type of coasters open for future generations
Such a fun ride. Shame more people can't appreciate the classics like this.
People say it's rough but the only rough transitional area is going down into the first corkscrew.
Also this park actually cares to keep the special effects going unlike the one at CGA.
It's also cool as to how many people choose to re-ride and scream and laugh doing so,
taking advantage of a short/no line and/or classic fun instead of 1hr+ waits for overrated B&M's (X-Flight, Raging Bull namely).
Agree with everything except for Raging Bull and X-Flight being overrated. The park's coaster lineup is amazing and all the rides are great!

Thanks for the great video! My favorite part of The Demon is just after it crests the top of the lift hill. If you’re in the front you just creep over, but from the middle back you really zip over the crest. I also love the sound of the wheels as it turns the corner toward the drop. There is a great moment when the track levels out just before you go over. Again, the front seat is ok, but from the middle back the drop is pretty good.
I remember riding this back in the 70s when it was TURN OF THE CENTURY. The two bunny hills were sooo much better than the loops. They gave tremendous airtime!
I try so hard to keep my head back and it still hurts because my head keeps hitting the sides.
I spent the summer of 1989 working as a ride operator when it was Six Flags Great America. Had to wear orange knickers, suspenders, and a bow tie. The last seats station was the best, for some reason it generated the most loose change. Morning challenge was to successfully eat breakfast on the test rides. Good stuff.

Kudos to you for the video being that smooth. You have to ride this one defensively in order not to get hurt. That was the case in the late 90s when my friend told me to keep my head back against the seat. I'm surprised it's still running.

I love this ride! I’m going to Six Flags Great America on June 20th 2018! A little bit of advice for this ride is that if you push back on the handles and try to keep your head back as much as you can then you won’t get headaches or brain damage😂

This was my first big rollercoaster and I went on it 4 times that day...if you don't want to hurt your head, try keeping ur head on the side of the seat where you normally hit it, keep it there when you go through that twisting part

Rode this in 1980 on opening day. It was amazing! I did love The Turn of the Century, but this just upped it. Still can't get that damn Demon song out of my head!

Wow this is still out there? It used to be in california at great america back in 1989-1991 era. They had other rides there called the grizley wooden roller coaster, the edge drop thrill ride to name a few. So fun.

When the ride was called "Turn of the century" it only had the corkscrew, it was also painted red white and blue. The corkscrew portion of the ride is very rough, It's a flaw due to that monster cave you go thru. there is about 5 feet of track as you go thru that mouth where the track is banked, but doesn't transition smoothly into the corkscrew, and it will cause your head to bang against the headrest. Do not wear big ear rings on this ride.

As long as you make sure to brace yourself at that corkscrew, this ride is great. I remember going on it seven times back to back with one of my friends at some point.

Hey I went to six flags great America today and I went on this ride 5 times and it's not even that bad!
Apparently this was my mom’s favorite ride when she was younger. She wanted to take me on it, but it was closed the day we went. We’ll get it next time tho!!

If you put your head forward on this ride, the experience in 50x better. That change alone made me appreciate this coasters layout, although not that strong, much more than I previously did.

People talk about how rough the rattle is for your head but that corkscrew is killer on your chest.

I get that this is a classic that stood with shockwave, and Iron wolf but I think it’s time this ride meets the six flags graveyard. They could easily fit another sand up or a floor less b&m
The good old sound of an old arrow coaster lift is so classic
About 8 years ago I rode this and this was my first real coaster and now I still get memories of the first time
i got on this last year and I was so scared to get on but when I got on it wasn’t even scary . It’s rlly fun , I recommend everyone get on this
All the really need to do to fix this ride is to reprofile the corkscrews, particularly the entrance and exit. The banking and lack of a leadin is what causes the horrible jolt that causes the head banging in that particular spot. The rest of the ride isn't too bad. It would have the added benefit of putting way less stress on the wheel assemblies as well.
This is my favorite ride but hitting your head on this ride hits different😂

Im 12 and this ride was great and fun but on the corkscrew I put my head to the right side of the wall and it was my first time ever going on it so I didn’t know it was gonna lean to the right and my lead got so much pressure to it and then it flew to the left and gave me a headache right away other than that tho it’s fun
Just came home from Six Flags, Gurnee IL. I went on this ride and I didn’t hit my head🤣 but I see everyone in the comments saying they did🤣
There’s a simple solution to the head rattle: Be tall. Once I got over the six foot mark, my head was above the head restraints!
I remember from back when there was the Turn Of the Century at Old Chicago, then came the Demon also a great ride as well.
Funner, better themed, and re-rideable with hour+ lines all the time than X-Flight which isn't even comfortable despite being a B&M and pasted in with those horrid vest restraints. Rode Demon like 7 times each day I was there and only rode X-Flight a 2nd time when I could sit in the front row because you for some reason are looser and get more hangtime in the front. Arrow coasters are awesome and I can't wait to get to ride Viper at Darien Lake for the first time in a long time. Since my stupid home park put in a useless redundant painful stand up in place of our arrow coaster. Give me this anyday.

I remember riding this when it first came out and they sprayed water on your face. It was one of the first coasters that went upside down more than two times. My mom used to take out her earrings because she was short and her head bangs on the restraints and actually went into her head. She loved coasters but hated the restraints. Man that line was long! we went often and so as they would get a coaster new in the park we would go. She used to save her lunch money just to go ride the wooden roller coaster one time. (She grew up in Indianapolis and somewhere was an amusement park. Oh I miss this park! We moved in 1982 to North Carolina and I would like to go back just one more time and take my mom's ashes that I have in a necklace and ride the ole Demon!!!!
This ride was so fun, but man did my head hurt after. My bf and I don’t like to ride rides as much because we’re afraid of heights and it looked like a baby compared to the other ones we rode before, but when we got to the top we were like oh damn this is taller than I expected it to be lol. Just know your head is gonna hurt so bad after

Me and my friend has a dad that works for a company that supports six flag’s electricity. So my friend and his dad asked me if I wanted to go here. And I rode Batman, demon, and American eagle. American eagle scared the hell outta me
