Way the hell back in the day when I first watched this episode, I hated Ichigo for not being able to handle himself, even with his 'negative' bugging him inside.
Years later, I can surmise that what he sorely lacked was experience.
I like the episode upping the stakes when I first watched it.
From the reaction, I like when Mickey started connecting the music with the faction. Yes, Shinigami is orchestral.
Japanese music for the most part. Arrancars and such are Spanish based in naming style and music.

For normal indiviudals they live hundreds of years so one human month is nearly instanteous for them
I’m pretty sure Byakuya told Renji that it takes decades to master the Bankai during their fight in the Soul Society Arc which was why Renji got beat without much effort
Hollows have been associated with spanish since the first time Rukia mentioned Hueco Mundo. Which from spanish literally translates to Hollow World
Depressive Ichigo is what really grounds the character for me, from the time he blamed himself for his mothers dead to this basically demonic possession trying to take his body
Hollows use Spanish because Kubo thinks the Spanish language sounds chaotic, with all the hard Rs and Ts and such, and since hollows are chaotic creatures he thought it fit them. And, as a native spanish speaker i agree with him, fits perfectly.

[Tidbits & Clarifications]
- This episode has a mistranlation, Ichigo cut through Yammy's Hierro not his Cero. Arrancar have very tough skin which is referred as Hierro meaning Iron Skin.
- Ulquiorra (short black haired Arrancar) explains a very important concept that man fans push to the side after this point. Ichigo Spiritual pressure is not in a controlled state, it fluctuates from extremely high to a near point of irrelevance. Spiritual Pressure is key to any fight in Bleach, this means that Ichigo in a way already has the power to combat these threats he simply lack to capability or know how of controlling that potential.
- This arc occurs relatively soon after the Soul Society arc, and Ichigo has 0 reason to use Bankai so Bankai is in fact still very new to Ichigo.
- Kubo basis every major group in Bleach on a particular Culture. So far we have Shinigami as Japanese, Hollows as Spanish, and Quincy as German.
There's a difference between padding and filler. Padding extends what was already there for the sake of making it last longer. Filler straight-up adds in something that was never there in the first place.
You missed it but in the Bount filler arc, Renji was assigned to Kurukara town ( the town of the serie) in place of Rukia...so it's not his first time in the real world and the running gag was the he was a freeloader to Kisuke's place !
Tite Kubo just loves researching and learning and intricating different cultures in his stories. It's a common thing in a lot of stories to connect a particular group of people with a real-world theme or culture and Kubo is one of them. FYI there will be an incoming group in Bleach that would embody the English (American) characters
Oda the creator of One Piece does that a lot! It's awesome when he does it. It's one of the things I like about both Bleach and One Piece 😁.
Fun fact: the arrival of Ulquiorra and Yammy was inspired by nappa and vegeta landing on earth. The parallels are easy to see
it is also a paralel to byakuya first appirance and renji
in this arc all of the names and musics are spanish based, Cero means Zero, Pesquisa meeans search or research and many more spanish names to come. Music is specially good in this arc.
A closer translation of Pesquisa would be Investigation, is not commonly use, so I truly believe Kubo just uses the words that sound the coolest
Kubo likes to include parts of languages and themes for each group. Shinigami: Japanese, Quincy: German, Arrancar/Hollows: Spanish. IIRC he mentioned it's mostly because he thinks the sound of the words and the themes and music fit each group. So things like 'Dia de los Muertos' may have played a big part in his fascination.
The new ability terms used in this episode by the Arrancar are:
-'Pesquisa', which is Spanish for 'Search' and is their ability to sense things in a sonar like fashion. All spirit beings have Reikaku or spirit sensing that allows one to determine like the direction of power being emitted, so Arrancar have both technically
-'Hierro' (the dub or translation team fudged on this one) is Spanish for Iron, and is Arrancar's skin.
-'Cero' or 'sero'/(虚閃 (セロ)) is Spanish for Zero, and Japanese if you translate the Kanji directly, 'Empty Disaster', but referred to as 'Hollow Flash' and is the beam/blast esc attack. We saw one as early as episode 14 where Ichigo and Ishida were having their contest, and a Menos Grande/Gillian appeared and Ichigo deflected it's Cero.
This episode was directed by Kazunori Mizuno he directed all of the really well animated episodes in the OG bleach anime. Unfortunately he pasted a couple years about because of overwork from what I remember. His work on bleach was definitely something special. You’ll see his directing style in future episodes as well it’s very noticeable.
Imagine if he was still alive and did episodes for TYBW. Its a damn shame we lost such a talented guy.

Makes me wonder if he was still alive that he was gonna return to Bleach. If he was in poor health I rather him just not do anything but its still interesting to think about what could have been.

OG bleach is extremely inconsistent his episodes are the only one you look forward to and there aren’t many in 200+ episodes. You good 1 good episode every 50. Unfortunately perriot doesn’t know how to use their resources they waste it on filler and movies.

Would be interesting to see them rank each character's theme, because there are some serious bangers in this series.
Personal favorite to this day, is still Ulquiorra's (that guitar while he and Yammy were leaving). Such a simple theme, but it goes hard.
Kubo just really like’s languages, sometimes he does intend thing to be in English, Spanish, or German, just like he uses people of different origins, he just likes things that sound and look cool, not the usual Japanese vacuum most series go with.
Also Aizen does use English himself for certain test subjects.
It’s why Ichigo has one of the most diverse cast of characters

Hollows and arrancars use spanish music and phrases, Soul Reapers have Japanese (except for Ichigo who gets an American style power rock song), and Quincies are German terms and classical music.

Chad is half Mexican half Japanese
its often overlooked, but the fullbring have Anglo-Saxon origin. Thats why their powers are named in the English Language.

Okay, you probably don't remember this comment from like 4 years. But in MHA during the Todoroki/Midoriya fight, (yes, the one where Mickey dropped the remote) Chris noted the Spanish guitar in that ep. This is the ost I was talking about. You heard some of it last ep too.
There is a lot of censoring at the start of this arc.That's why you see Ichigo and Orihime throwing up a bunch of saliva and clear fluids. All of that was supposed to be blood, I heard it was because Bleach was changed to an earlier time slot and got hit with censoring. If you go by the fillers Ichigo last saw Rukia like a week ago at most.
It’s inconsistent as hell in the same episode they can show someone’s arm get cut off but they can’t show someone throwing up blood.
something I don't see people talk about enough because it isn't explicitly stated in the show -- a zanpakuto is an inner reflection of the wielder. to fully comprehend your zanpakuto, you have to delve deep into your psyche and face your traumas -- that's at least partly where Ichigo's Hollow comes from, as well as other powers he develops over time. this gives a very fascinating perspective once you learn more about the other characters' zanpakuto.
also, aging for soul reapers depends on their spirit energy. some characters are much older or much younger than they appear. rukia for example is 150+ years old, and roughly the equivalent physically of a human in their late teens/early 20s, same for renji. byakuya would be physically in his 30s. some of the captains are over 1000 but don't look that old.

Urahara has been my favorite character for nearly 20 years. Kyoraku, and Hirako are not far behind.
The author likes to give different groups language themes. The Quincy are German while the Hollows are Spanish.
These guys come to the human world also during the bount arc, except Hitsugaya. I don't remember if he comes to the human world during the bount arc. But Hanatarou and Ganju show up. They get a job at a convenience store. And Nemu shows up to give Uryuu a quincy artifact.

Hollows are from Hueco Mundo which is Spanish for “Hollow World”. Arrancar means to rip off, which is what they did to their hollow masks. Negación is Negation and that was the force field that the hollows used to take the three captains into Hueco Mundo at the end of the soul society arc. Cero means zero. Pesquisa means to search, and you will see more in this arc.

The Arancar attacks are in Spanish because Tite Kubo wanted to use Spanish for them. The quincy are German.

The time between hasn’t been that long only a month or two the filler was basically used to end the summer vacation so a lot happened there but it wasn’t a lot of time but a lot did happen at the back end

As far as I’m aware, the language schemes are just a thematic choice Kubo used. There isn’t an “in universe” meaning as to why hollows are associated with Spanish
I'm sure someone's mentioned it by now, but these last two episodes were heavily censored. Chad's arms got pretty much destroyed, and when Yammy hits Orihime in this episode he damn near takes her eye out in the manga.

There’s nothing spoilery about The Hollows being Spanish themed. Hollows=Mexicans, Quincy=Germans, Soul Society=Japanese. The creator, Tite Kubo, just decided to base the 3 main factions on cultures that exist in the world. They’re from Hueco Mundo so that was a big hint.
