I find so much of the music of that era, my salad days, entirely delicate and whimsical, simply lovely, even J.Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, contains so much really good musicians-ship and great melodies. Its a pity really that more folks really have never heard most of it.
@apa_plainjane Surrealistic Pillow was a veritable sensation in '67 and beyond. Reached #3 on the charts. The idea that it lacked exposure or impact is simply not accurate.
16 yo I used to get really stoned and listen to this. Now Im old and dont get stoned much these days but I still listen to this. Takes me back to 16 yo
I am 73, turning 74 in July. Hearing this when I was in high school really shattered all the conventions and sent me into the San Francisco underground, along with Jefferson doing White Rabbit.
word... i think this is my favourite song... i remember my first psychedelic experience , plus that sound, it felt like it will go for all eternity... peace
Except Barry Melton was actually like 19 in "67" as he's now 74 yrs old 🗝️ I was like 4 years old in 67" lmao so I can't remember too much except at age 5 I can ......
I was 22 going on 23. Now going on 80. Hard to believe but I am glad I was alive at that time. I've played Section 43 hundreds of times since then. Wondrous !
~ Good as this is, it isn't the entire piece; it was edited for time to be included in the film. Long ago I had a box set recording of the Monterey Festival and it had this, only unedited. Good as this is, the uncut performance is much better.
Never had acid, then? This is LSD music, bro. This tripping or their album “Electric Music For Mind And Body’ is what you want. Then Grateful Dead ‘Anthem of Sun’. Then Jefferson Airplane ‘After Bathing At Baxter’s’. On vinyl. On acid. Defo. Immense. One Love.
I've loved this instumental for decades and there is still so much great music from this amazing musical era yet to explore. Nothing in recent years appeals to me, but that's ok.....plenty of great music from back then to keep me satisfied and inspired.
David Bennett Cohen and Bruce Barthol ( keyboards / bass ) of this line up Of C J and the Fish playing the UK in October 2012 as the 'Former Members' . I dunno what the whole tour will be but they at Hulls Adelphi Fri 12 Oct
@mtopper66 right on !...you could refer them to the Woodstock 1969 dvd or many clips on haight ashbury in San Fran in 67-68. I am 65 and lived through all of it. Times now are tame compared to the summer of love ..lol !
its almost sad, the quality of the film is so good that it looks like it could have been recorded recently. the setting reminds me a bit of rougham tree fair in suffolk in the early 80s, which had agood atmosphere with robin williamson and some of fairport convention playing
@@thegreenbird795 the film is full of famous people seated (and camping) separately from the main crowd. Who are they all? Scott McKenzie, Cass Elliot, many stars and producers. Was this girl in a cigarette commercial?
Ive always thought the guy at 5:30 looks like a young Bob Dylan. ....and Ive always loved that shirt Country Joe wears here. They were really amazing musicians. Joe is.....kind of ...full of shit at times... but I love the band anyways.
the most perfect psychedelic song
If I could have chosen only one concert to ever have attended, it would be Monterey.
Greatest music ever; greatest time ever. Thankful to be born to be alive then. And now to listen again, ha, ha. 🇺🇸🎸❤️✌🏻😁🙏🏻🌻
a sweet melancholic elegy for all those who are now dead, balding, or in rest homes
Are you old?
@@lastnamefirst4035 I am and, as much as I love this song, it really brought that fact to the fore
@@rockobill7637 Same here. 69 Love the music but it was light years ago. Never been anything again like those times. Glad I was alive then

Fantastic. What memories to pass on for those fortunate enough to have been there. Always assuming they remember anything!
What a great video going back and forth with the audience

happy birthday in 2023
@@A_Pa-Plainjane Thank you. By the way I have the Monterey Pop Festival box. I love it. My favorite festival that I never attended.
agree!
the tune is beautiful and the farisa sound is simply one of the best I ever heard.
This is it, folks.
I was lucky enough to see them do this tune in London with the full Joshua Light show.
The ultimate psychedelic experience.

classic song, great vid. historical. one of the best concerts ever and a colorful performance.
The farfisa sound in this live version is just xtraordinary.
this song is bad ass old school love it
We were all young back then, most of the musicians were in their 20's in 1967, I was 19.

thanks for that mention, it seemed like it was missing something to me...
Omg so awesome! I love this song and to see it live at Monterey is just amazing!
Just A Great Atomsphere
Stoner classic! Wish I was there, and stoned..

This is wonderful footage.
Believe me I know, never been a time like this before or since.
Best Version Ever
2:53 Joe straight down the lens, playing the lonely guitar. Trippy moment.
Electric Music is up there Top 10 psychedelic albums ever made easily. Maybe among the very best.
I agree
Best song by them🌻💖🌹🌷

gettin crispy with it - 1967 .
Knowing exactly how fucking good i wanted to feel, brought me here!
My favorite recorded version of Section 43 was the single that played at 33 IIRC.
I've got that one. Much better than the LP version.
More I hear this tune the MORE prophetic it appears to be. Much like Jimi doing Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock....
You ever noticed that the Army jacket The Fish is wearing here, is the same one Country Joe wears at Woodstock?
They liked to swap clothes
yup. have seen it with other bands as well.
1:30... I'll have some of that please! 😍 Probably still looks great in her 70's? lol
actually she was a model...
No doubt, those lips are incredible! Bet she had her pick of the musicians?
@@thegreenbird795 the film is full of famous people seated (and camping) separately from the main crowd. Who are they all? Scott McKenzie, Cass Elliot, many stars and producers. Was this girl in a cigarette commercial?
Barry is wearing Joe's woodstock jacket.
good catch, good times, good times...
What a great time that was. It truly was completely different than any other generation. Sorry kids, you missed it.
the girl at 1 39 looking at the jewellery brings me back all the time take me back now for fuck sake hahahahah--oh yeah and the music rocks
jajajajaja los hippies, q gente mas natural...
LUVLI 😂
I assume that's the organ making that weird throbbing noise?
I was wonder that myself. I don't know what the organ has that could do that though.
Find it very interesting at the end .......
People just remaining in their seats clapping😍..........
Maybe I'm stoned , i don't know🤣
What are they supposed to do? Throw Frisbee, do a mosh pit, or maybe the cheesy Bic lighter thing....oh, wait.
the chick at the end was tripped the fuck out lol
sexy man
And tuned in
Looked like they all must have dosed at the gate!
where we turned off the road and into space
What was making that low droning type of sound on this, when Barry is playing the mellow part.......triads down the neck ?
Harmonica.
@@KeithOtisEdwards I thought that too, but when they play that section the 1st time, you hear the low sound, but Joe is not playing the harmonica.
Sargent Who? LOL

At 1:05, shame on that irrresponsible mother who carried her baby on her back like that.
jacoba atlas Fifty one years ago.. time to let it go Jacoba...
Joking right? I see alot of parents today carrying kids the same way
You mean Native American style, like a papoose?
