I’m curious how much feed per pig you are calculating for the life of each pig. I’ve seen 700-900 lbs per pig several places online. I’m curious what you are seeing for pasture raised pigs. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you for shareing all this information with us, really appreciate it!
I was wondering at what age are piglets when they come to your farm? Are you strict with their age or it can vary, what is important to know about that?
nice one and sooo informative.what do you do with the ones with rectal prolapse? i heard you say put sugar?
Yes, sugar helps absorb the extra moisture in the prolapse so it can recede.
Would it help if the wood trough was more narrow decreasing the pigs impulse to try and get into feeder?
Can you pasteurize and domesticate feral piglets?
Thanks igot some wisdoms
What was your pastures mix on the other video I could not write fast enough to get it
Comprehensive video, really impressed!
Glad you liked it!
Have you started raising your own sows yet? Or are you still buying in piglets? Just curious

There's supposedly a bunch of Sargassum headed towards Florida you can use it as food and antibiotics for free food free antibiotics for pigs.🎉
Thanks for the tip!
Do you worry about predators with the piglets? Coyotes and dogs and such? Our proposed receiving area is out of site from our house and although we will visit them several times a day, wondering about safety, especially over night
Hey jjj, when the piglets arrive on our farm, they are already large enough to defend themselves against coyotes and dogs. If you are receiving much smaller piglets or farrowing yourselves, you might want to look into extra security features for your area.
pigs are awesome
Right?!
What if ihave like 5piglet how can I keep them
What do you do to minimize flies and waste smells?
We rotate the pigs to new paddocks on a regular basis. You can learn more about that in the next video in this series: czcams.com/video/2bPHTdWAovY/video.html
Excellent
Thanks, Terry!
It is a MUST to feed the pigs corn and soy? I understand that it's probably the easiest way to feed as many pigs as you have, but what if I only have 2 to 4 pigs per year?
Hi Esco, pigs are monogastric animals and as such require a diversity in their diet. That being said, you don't have to use corn or soy. Pigs enjoy a wide variety of foods. However, if you are growing for market it is an ideal source of nutrition as it is readily available and nutrient dense. Many people also ferment their pig feeds for increased health benefits as well.
Why sell a pig off the farm after receiving antibiotics? I know antibiotic free meat is highly advertised these days, but doesn’t the pig wind up in the food chain eventually anyway? I’m just curious. Seems like antibiotics would be unavoidable at times that sickness happens and humane treatment of the pig is necessary. Just trying to understand and I am not a farmer.
Are you using commercial feeds? Or your doing your own mixing of feeds?
Hi Ate! We work with local feed mills to mix our own blend.
What breed of pigs most recomended for pasture..?is this applicable for tropical country like Philippines...are u deworming constantly?how and when?
Tnx for sharing ideas...
Hi Joey! We raise several different breeds including red wattles and berkshire. Not sure what the best available breed is in your area though. It is always a good idea to consult with local farmers to see what is working there. We deworm as necessary, but fortunately we receive piglets from a good breeder and the issue is not too prevalent. Thanks for watching/commenting!
Yorkshire, landrace and duroc breed and cross breed of them are found in my area..did you try this breed for pasture?
👍
😄
Do you make the ramps yourselves or do you buy them?
Typically, we make them from supplies we have available on the farm. We're big fans of recycling and reusing materials!
are all male piglets castrated at first recieving?
I want to work in your farm ma'am..
The swine's genus name Sus is Latin for swine while its species name scrofa means sow and was based on an ever sow specimen in King Adolf Fredrik of Sweden's cabinet of natural curiosities. Its subspecies name domesticus means domestic. By ever, I mean a wild "boar" and that word came from the Old English word eofor, which was the usual word for an ever or wild "boar" in that language. Cabinet in that sense means a museum or small room. Can you believe that?
Thanks for the etymology lesson! very interesting.
@@HeiferUSA Thanks and you're welcome.
2:00 so you're telling me that I can keep 100 Pigs in an area that's only 20 ft by 30 ft
What state are you located in?
Heifer Ranch is located in Perryville, Arkansas.
I think we would have to begin at a fraction of that size.. 10 pigs to start is that a reasonable Amount
Hi Bubba, most of the practices a d principles in this video can be applied at any scale. You don't have to have a carbon copy of what you see depicted here to utilize the information. Hope that answers your question!
Why do we need an electric fence?
To keep the pigs in the paddock.
Can I get a free copy? Please and thanks

Well done guys this is such an amazing experience 👏
Hogs eat grass?
They do! They are monogastric animals and require a broad spectrum of diet related inputs.
Looks like the land and facilities for these animals cost a fortune
