    I've learned,if I think about the shot I'll be a little off. But, if I draw,aim and shoot..without second guessing myself or adjusting anything I'll be right were I want it. I actually have to constantly remind myself not to think about it...just shoot.
    I think the more you want to shoot well..like shooting with people watching..or a deer you want to harvest puts pressure on you which in return causes you to think about it to the point you end up making a bad shot. Buck fever. Target panic.
    So with that said ..awsome video
    and very well said.

    Shot Olympic for 30 years and now loving Trad almost another 10. One thing I see that snap shooting gets a bad rep is the initial appearance of lack of control. Some people may think that one may be over bowed or lack form but in the end-those who still follow proper fundamentals and hit exactly what they are aiming at are in fact "successful". Holding, not holding, three under, split finger or even Thumb!- (lots of fun!). It all works through Practice, Patience, Perseverance and above all having fun and spreading the love for this sport!

    Nice vid... I would like to add something for people that hold... Best little bit of advice I ever got... It has increased my accuracy so much... The magic word is Float... When you are gap shooting just hold your stance, remember there is no rush,,, Main thing is to get that arrow to your intended target... So when you are at full draw and you got your site picture going just relax, no rush, let the tip of that arrow just float out there... Your mind will clear and you just become entranced in the tip of the arrow floating out there... Let it float as long as it needs to... When it floats in the right zone or correct point where the tip of that arrow needs to be, just release... It is very Zen like... It is like snap shooting in slow motion... At the point of seeing a good sight picture it becomes more like instinctive than aiming... Everything just happens naturally... Hope this helps someone...

    Spot on! Found your channel a few weeks ago and completely agreed with your philosophy. The minute you introduce thinking into the game, you've taken the "instinct" out of instinctive archery ... period. My shots have gotten so precise over the past few weeks because the only thing I do now is relax my mind, look at the target and send it. And all of this happens within a split second. No more thinking, just shooting. My accuracy and more importantly, my confidence have both improved. And being relaxed and confident go hand in hand.
    Great stuff! 👍

    Gorgeous bow by the way. Just got back into traditional Shooting after being out of it for almost 25 years. Right now my issue is consistently coming to anchor point versus releasing the arrow before I come to the proper anchor point. I guess it is a form of target panic just something I need to get past. It’s incredible when I do come to proper anchor .99% of the time I place a great shot.

    I shoot split finger and have all my life And totally instinctively.. People are always asking me how I can possibly aim like that I tell them That all I have to do is see it and I can hit it.. They asked me about different distances it's about different distance all the way out of 40 yd and beyond and I tell them when I raise my bow hand up I know where the picture looks right whatever the distance. Whenever the picture looks right the arrow is gone!

    Absolutely spot on mate! I came to the same conclusion after my shooting went downhill big time because I was overthinking every part of my shot sequence during each shot. One thing I worked out is that I need to begin my draw with my back and keep my draw arm on the same line as arrow and don't break concentration on aiming spot. Your video on shooting at night is awesome too and I found the exact same result in regards to improving focus. Wandering round the yard at night with a head lamp shooting cane toads here in Australia is awesome practice for this!

    Hey Jeff love your videos! I too am an instinctive snap shooter and yes I battled target panic. Yet I want you to know that Joel Turner and Tom Clum taught me how to overcome it. They taught the complete opposite of what you taught in your video. They teach focus on the process not the target. You said to focus on the target not the process. Again I am grateful for you and your videos but I think you may have gotten this one wrong. God bless you brother keep turning out the great videos.

      @trackerscout1 Před rokem +1

      It's like he said in the beginning, whatever works for you. Been shooting most of my life. Had the thought as a kid, I have to aim, how can I hit a target if I don't aim? Yet after all that aiming and hundreds up on hundreds of arrows, I was wildly inaccurate. About the time I learned how to make bows, I learned about instinctive shooting. I decided to give it a shot. Instant and drastic improvement is what happened. I still wasn't committed to it though. I would shoot with friends and try to aim and hold and all that, and would usually hit the target, even if I wasn't hitting the bullseye. Every time I tryed the instinctive style, weather it was with a fast motion spinning around to draw on the target, perfectly stationary, shooting horizontally, or even shooting at a key ring my friends girlfriend was dangling extremely dangerously a couple of inches below her hand at arms length l, I was spot on! Every shot was a bullseye! It made my buddy so angry he literally gave away his bow and quit shooting altogether. I have sence then continued to learn about shooting and listen to all information equally, regardless of weather it's coming from an instinctive style mindset or not. I have listened to people like Joel Turner, and have absolutely learned very valuable skills that have continued to allow me to improve as an Archer. Their is value in listening and learning with an open mind, rather than a closed judgemental one. All that being said, when I aim, come to full draw, think about form, not over gripping my bow, watching it (my aim) to keep it, and beginning to pull through to release the arrow, I miss as many as I hit, and honestly some of those misses are so far off it makes me wonder if I've ever really held or shot a bow before or if I just imagined it! But every time I focus on the target and let instinct take over, I hit what I am shooting at, where I want to hit it. Joel Turner is obviously a successful Archer, and what he teaches has worked for him and many of the people he has instructed, but everyone is different, our minds don't all work the same way, and what works for some, usually doesn't work for everyone. So maybe next time you watch a video or read something that doesn't exactly fit with the style or mindset that works for you, try opening your mind instead of you mouth. This man is obviously not wrong just because you disagree. Their is more than one way to skin a cat, as my grandma would often say.

    Second guessing your shot location before release is a common problem too. I try and hold the string for no longer than 3 seconds, and no earlier than 1 second. The only time I would hold for longer is abstract hunting situations, or longer shots that I need to slowly lift and pinpoint before releasing. Not gap shooting, instinct only ...Feels good, let 'er fly

      So stop using a trigger. Take it a step further and don't use a bow that utilizes a trigger, or a peep or sights, or stabilizers or any of that crap. Use a real bow and you will very quickly see what you're true skill level is and where you need to improve.all that other stuff just makes it easier to seem like you actually know what you're doing. A primitive bow is a tool that makes you become the weapon, all that modern stuff is just a weapon system that turns you into a tool.

    • @whipplefilter
      @whipplefilter Před rokem

      Well I haven’t shot a compound in many years. I have hunted exclusively with my longbow. When I say trigger I have a system that once the feather of my arrow touches my nose I loose the arrow. To be honest you sound like someone who has no idea what they are talking about. It doesn’t matter what type of bow or gun you have target panic will show up every time if you can’t control it. I don’t know about you but I have buckles proving I can slay my archery demons. Ignorance is bliss and you seem to be having a good time so enjoy archery the way you like to and don’t trash other forms of it we are all in this a hunting community man.

Can you give me some suggestions? Thanks so much

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks brother and yea it’s very common and it’s aggravating for sure I deal with it myself from time to time and I’ve learned that first you must be physically able to hold the bow back comfortably for at least five seconds or it’s just too heavy and secondly you must control the shot consciously even if it takes getting mad and telling your bow you’re not going to fire this arrow until I’m good and ready it’s called controlling your shot but it’s way easier with comfortable pounds so try getting bossy with your shot even if you have to practice letting down and not releasing the string a few times till your mind quits telling your fingers to let go, try counting to at least four every time just to help hold and focus a couple more seconds also find a two point anchor somewhere that you have to feel before the release. Let me know if that helps call me if you need to I’ll FaceTime with you if need be 👍🏻
