  • [Verse 1]
Why should Memory love to dwell
On pleasures which can come no more?
And why should Fancy's magic spell
So brightly gild each scene of yore?
    [Verse 2]
But Memory, like a fairy dream,
    Still haunts the pensive view,
And, like mild Evening's lingering beam,
Clothes fading scenes in loveliest hue.
    [Chorus]
The Past, with all its glittering train
Of joys, so sweet, so quickly fled,
    At Memory's touch returns again,
To cheer the heart whose hopes are dead.
    [Verse 3]
They come, like Music's distant breath,
So soft, so sweet their whisperings are,
And fadeless is that lovely wreath
With which they bind the brow of care.
    [Outro]
Oh! Memory's joys will always last
    No cloud can dim their brilliant ray;
Still bright and brighter glows the Past,
As Hope's sweet visions fade away.

These are original Southern or Pro-Southern poems with music created by AI for both entertainment and to inspire musicians to think creatively about how they could use 19th century poetry to make modern music.

I hope this does inspire some musicians out there to try this themselves. I've enjoyed listening to this one for the same reasons a previous commenter has and would like to hear more.

I've created a ranking system for the Abbeville Inst.'s poems/songs: The scoring system is 1 point for each view, 5 points for each like, and 10 points for each comment. All we need now is Casey Kasem's voice to give the bio of each song & artist, maybe not, Waylon Jennings would sound much better. (1) That Devil Forrest, (2) The Despot's Song, (3) Southern Beauty, (4) The Swamp Fox, (5) The Sword of Robert E. Lee, (6) The Old Hall, (7) The Funeral Dirge of Stonewall Jackson, (8) The Joy of Drinking, (9) Stoop, Angels, Hither From the Sky, (10) Flight of Nature, (11) Memory. Keep in mind that last ranked song was just released and it's one of my favorites.

    Fascinating idea and interpretation
Though I’d love to see authentic performances in the original 18-19th century style alongside these creations, this is brimming with surprising beauty, depth, and nostalgia
Looking forward to more, very unique and a trove of inspiration and…memory

Hopefully the AI craze will soon pass into oblivion.

Except it really isn't entirely AI. The poems were written by real people. These comments are short-sighted.

I have finally come up with the way the South could have won Lincolns war. It may sound radical but think about it.
Every slave from the South should have been set free and forced to migrate to the northern states. As soon as the Southern states left the union, this should have been done. It would have been a hard ship on the slaves and the slave owners, but the destruction of the South could have been avoided.
This is exactly what happened after the war, so why not do it before the war. LOL
