Is it strange that I like this better then the gameshows we have now?
Jolijn Attema : Not at all.
Elegant and proper.
No. Not strange. I think most of us feel the same.
Not strange. Most of us feel the same.
Right there with ya!
Allen: It's a family show.
Tony: " Well, it's not a family word! Can I whisper it?"
It always cracks me up 😅
Gigolo
Allen: This is a family show Tony.
Tony: Well that’s not a family word.
Well we all go a little crazy sometimes
He's got a point tho
Good wit.
I have always been an Anthony Perkins fan but that just tickles my heart.
I went to school with Carol's daughter. So I knew Carol. She was amazing & so was her daughter. 💔
Lucky you! Seems like a talented, brilliant & humorous.
Trying to keep it clean is more exciting than today’s shows where anything goes.
💯
Vague way to put it (😅😆😂) but that's sometimes stuff like that is what's make life so fun, intellegent, funny, and altogether survivable.
Restrictions make it so you have be clever to and push back without breaking them completely. Sometimes implied is more entertaining than explicitly.
Carol is hilarious and is astonishingly good at the lightning rounds.
Improv training
ANTONY PERKINS IS GORGEOUS WHAT EYES, EYE BROWS AND SMILE! WOW! Kim
My all - time favorite actor!!!! There will NEVER/EVER be another like the 1 & only Anthony Perkins!!!! Bless him FOREVER & EVER!!!! ;-)
Take a cold shower. He's dead !
Larry Wakeman : Guess he had to get all dressed up for Tab Hunter.
Sorry, but after Psycho, I only saw Norman
...but he keeps his mom in the basement! Ewww
I LOVE these old shows!!!😁
The whispering password guy snickering at the answers they gave is priceless..lol
This is so stinkin’ Adorable ❤️😭 Anthony used to leave notices for Carol, so they started leaving notes and pictures for each other
He was such a sweetie 😄😍. It’s fascinating because even though they probably heard of each other, neither he or Carol actually KNEW each other until Tony started sending her those “gifts”! He may have been generally a shy man, but he had so much love to give others!
Oh how gay 😂
@@johnboys4697 I think it was genuinely sweet. I wish someone would take a special interest in me like that ~ I would be flattered and intrigued.
Tony is so good! And obviously so is Carol! I love how well Tony enunciates-no one ever has to have him repeat a clue!
Anthony- he looks like a science fiction enthusiast
Me- nice way of saying nerd
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And then it was like he called himself a nerd afterward lol.
Emmm yes a deliciously gorgeous science fiction enthusiast.
I look at Tony Perkins and can only think of Norman Bates.
I know right?
Same here. Yiiiikes!
Ikr
What a handsome guy was Tony Perkins
My ex husband looked just like him, absolutely gorgeous..
OMG!! This stuff is gold!! Highly entertaining!!
tootired76 thanks for the nice.comment! Glad you're enjoying
If you like re-creations
He wasnt a nerd on psycho lol
@@password5737 LOVE these episodes. Thanks for the upload!
Ahah “ hey Tony I love your sun tan” everyone els watching this at home in black and white 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Love this. And love Carol Burnett-funny, pretty and smart!
Anthony and Carol were both great players. I know she later appeared on Password Plus, but I'm surprised Anthony never did. Would have loved to have seen them play together on Password Plus.
Whispering the password was the original ASMR
agreed
I've pondered downloading all the password shows, extracting the audio and making a podcast with only "the password is snippets chained together
@@asmrdadbod2483 That's amazing and I would totally listen to that
I love when you hear him snicker at the answers they gave...Love it Just Love it!
the guy sounds hot
When celebrities on Password tried to "perform" during the playing of the game, it usually came off as annoying or self-indulgent. Carol Burnett was one of the very few who could pull it off. A truly amazing lady.
gosh I love carol: Americas sweetheart
I sure do love Carol's dress with the leaves like leaf-shaped cookies.
If I wasn’t an infant at the time, I would have watched this show every week!
I wasn't even born yet.. good show
I was 2 and a half
I was only seven years old when this first aired. I remember seeing Password but at the time I didn't appreciate how good it was. Great to see it now.
Carol-funny for decades.
Wow! I was 10, going on 11,when this was actually televised! 💖
I was 6.
OMG, that Tonette commercial brought back a nightmare!
The lady with the green contacts was very humble. In those days the contacts were rigid and tinted. In other words, she would have already green eyes and the tint would have just enhanced her own natural green.🤩
This Reminds me of my childhood...
Carol saying “Quack” for “Doctor” cracked me tf up!
I like it that Tony at the beginning explains why his hair is a little longer than normal for 1963. And the reference to the Brooklyn Dodgers!
I laughed when Doctor popped up after Quack. Carol caught it Too
It is utterly hilarious that every time they gave the password, they whispered it.
That shows how long ago that was. Now they would shout it to the skies and use all the four-letter words they wanted to.
What - did you want the guesser to hear it :-)
@@yamimotonokamina4759 😂😂😂😂
Nut jobs
It was to let the audience know what the password was without the players hearing it.
If I were to make Password dream teams, they would be Carol Burnett and Carolyn Jones vs. Peter Lawford and Anthony Perkins. I can just imagine the sparks flying!!
To the woman who commented that she likes this better the the show now. I agree with you and it's because back in those days even the show itself is serious the actors and actresses are being real they are being themselves .They are not acting.
Yeah cuz it's actually nice when people were well-mannered, had self-respect & values.. clean fun, didn't resort to desperate ploys 4ratings. I enjoy the old school simplicity of tv shows back then too compared to the nightmares on tv now
gentlemen stand for the ladies…old fashion manners gone forever.😢
love carol burnett, she is so charming
What a movie Tony will make, Pretty Poison.
I also like the older ones too
The GSN used to show all these older game shows, and now it's mostly Family Feud on that channel! That net work went downhill.
I Love all these old black and white shows, and I love watching the celebs playing on these shows. XO
Most of the older game shows now appear on Buzzr, an over-the-air digital subchannel that some cable and satellite operators broadcast as well.
I really like both Burnette and Perkins. What a good, solid, well-matched celeb pair imo.
Love Carol Burnett!
Tony must have liked this show because he appeared frequently within 3-4 years (at least I count 4 appearances). Maybe all stars appear frequently. I think he and Sondheim liked anagrams and word puzzles.
Ikr so cool to see Norman playing with people in these game shows.
No shit, Sherlock
@@joeambrose3260 boy u r a creep on all these sites
It’s crazy... this doesn’t feel dated at all to me... even though I wasn’t even born!
times changed big time,,,tony perkins was thinking the word stud i bet for giggilo but couldnt say it on air
It doesn't feel dated??😆
@@dennismcelholme3290 he was thinking F¥€k
Someone made the comment after another video of Carroll on Password that she can be quite competitive. This appearance it really shows.
How many times did Carol touch the side of her hair, and the same side throughout the show, wow maybe some comfort thing?
Maybe that's where her G- spot was
Love Carol Burnette ❤
@4:40 I thought Tony was a catcher 😂 love him. So cute and a fabolous actor
He has really thick hair.
Love this!
Enjoyed!
Carol so futurist look her style compared to the other girls
That’s “women.”
@@Victoria-ni3tf Thank you. Often, people don't realize this language imbalance -- but if, for example, instead of saying "Here's our next contestant, a man from New York who works as a school principal," a game show host were to introduce a grown adult male contestant by saying, "And here's a boy from New York who works as a school principal," I think it would sound strange to most people's ears.
Gigolo is a hard word to give a clue!!
escorts... I wonder what the 4 letter word was that Anthony Perkins self censored
I'm wondering if it was "pimp" ?
cde1968 that's the only thing that makes sense... but it doesn't seem so bad to me
It was probably a lot more taboo back then.
I would have went with "prostitute".
"Smirk" is a lot harder. I still can't think of anything for that one. Maybe "ironic".
This is three years after psycho the movie !!!!
It's interesting to note that in the early days of Password , even if you won , they still sent you STRAIGHT home !!!...
If I can remember I saw the fool killer in 64 at little rock Arkansas.
Carol Burnett is the same in the show as she is in real life. She is just funny all the time. It's weird for me to watch her because I am a lot like her in personality.
Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins had a relationship that was kept secret. A sweet guy.
So what's your point?
Betty White is the best in Password then it’s Carol Burnett!
I agree!
"Hi Doll!!" LOL!
$500 in 1963
$4800 in 2022
Not bad for playing a game for 10 minutes
As far as a one-word clue for "Trap" I might have gone with "Ensnare."
Was "Pimp" the bad 4-letter word? 60's censors were wild.
I'm sure that was the word, since he then said procurer. And Ludden afterward defined the word gigolo to say it had a less salacious meaning.
If the male contestant in the second game had lost, they probably would have needed to bring him back on a future show. Back to back mistakes by Allen Ludden occur in that game favoring his opponent starting at ~13:26. The word is "cling". Her answer is "clinging". Chances are that she would have gotten the right answer, but Allen should have said "roughly a form of the word" and given her one chance to say the correct word. Either no one on the production staff caught it or they weren't able to alert him to do it.
But something distracts Allen. Apparently they finally got his attention but by this time (~13:52) he says to someone off stage "Go ahead and play it?" Perhaps because he had already handed out the next word, it was too late to go back. But then he lets Tony give the first clue for that next word. Since his team was given credit for guessing the previous word, Carol should have given the first clue. But Tony's partner got it on the first clue, a ten point word giving them a 16-0 lead.
But all's well that ends well. Carol and her partner ended up winning the game.
A lot of mistakes like that were made in the first version. I watch all 3 versions every day & notice how ridiculously picky they are some stupid things but then let other things slide. I enjoy super password the best, hosted by Bert convey. They have a lot of fun. Allen always wants to cut the laughter short & move on with the game. He was too serious.
Interesting how at 19:52 Ludden basically gives it away! Really surprising how the next couple of engagements didn't utilize that giveaway.
That's what I 🤔. I can't believe they didn't catch it
I thought that too
@@sallyhildreth3663 Thanks, Sally! (FYI, I'm replying from my other/main CZcams account).
"Mommy, what's a ... a gigolo??"
11:40 The second male contestant looked as if he had no teeth. The movie "The Fool Killer" that Anthony Perkins mentioned as having just completed, wasn't released until April 1965. It's a very good movie, and one of his best from the 1960s.
Smile-Conceited- Smirk!!
"The password is Mother". (From the Psycho film)
9 17 2021 and I am just here enjoying this interesting shit....thanks....I see why the uptick....some of us crave this type of life....even if it may not have been real.. I don't just don't know anything anymore....
5:14 haha. The double take Tony does when he first reads the word.
This last batch was....somthing.
It’s weird how they bring in contestants from across the country for just a 5-minute game.
I don't think they would have provided transportation for contestants. Probably people would be in New York anyway on a trip and try to be on the show.
It was quite common for game shows in the 1950s and 1960s to pay the airplane ✈ ride to the studio from wherever they came from.
@@lynettepalecek3141 I don't know if they did that in the 1950s and 60s--maybe they did, but with the prize money so small on shows like Password, they would have spent more on plane tickets than on the prizes. (And Jeopardy! now doesn't provide transportation or hotel for contestants, for example.)
@@stanbrown32 I know that they did because I have a 3 dvds set of original game shows from the 1950s and I watched a lot of original game shows from the 1960s on reruns on tv. Yes, it was very common.
@@lynettepalecek3141 Do they actually say that they will fly contestants out? Notice that New York-based shows have a lot of NYC-area contestants, and Los Angeles-based shows have a lot of Californians, because they didn't provide transportation. People from other areas would have to make it on their own--on Password, Allen Ludden often asked contestants from other states what brought them to New York.
They used have a bunch of game show. They aren't many left. That's kinda sad.
Brooklyn Dodgers? I had no idea that they came from there first. I gotta learn my baseball history I suppose.
yes as down below comments ,,great show...tony perkins still looks menacing ..no wonder he was cast as in physco----2 months before jfk incident
Tony Perkins' hair was daringly long for those pre-Beatle years.
Right? Mentioned he was working on a movie and was wearing a civil war hair cut
Lol.. and now they're on youtube together. :-)
Is this Carol's real hair or a wig !!!!????
They should have used the word "jerk" to get a response of "smirk"
The premiere of the new Password Theme.
"Mocking" for SMIRK!!
Boys Anthony looks so different .
They sure don't have much luck with the word "smirk" on this show.
That’s true, there were several words like that, but in this case the situation wasn’t helped that you neither of these players was the brightest bulb in the box.
oh oh it looked like tony was making a pass at the science fiction fan, subtlety.
He wasn't very cute, so I don't think so.
Idents:
Techno Squares (10 seconds; partial)
You're A Winner! (5 seconds)
Formation (5 seconds; partial)
foist used of "..and edited program" announcement. later season jack clark and lee vines announced as "recorded and edited program".
I would have said "upturned" and "assymetrical" for the smirk one. Saying smile repeatedly doesn't help.
Maybe ‘sneer’?
@@esalenchik they said that twice I think
What was the 4 lettered word for 'gigolo' Tony was referring to? I'm blank
pimp. Probably
@@ariannacandelaria2997 or stud
Probably pimp.
Your right. Stud meaning actually matches gigolo better than pimp.
wow green contact lenses in 1963
Carol Burnette looks very different than she did a few years later, she is very pretty here, later did she have plastic surgery? She is very funny either way!
Yes she had plastic surgery I think, but lots of celebrities end up doing that.
Her surgery was only to give a her a chin. At least that was her first surgery. If she had the usual facelift later on I don't know.
Did she said clinging, not cling? Not that it really matters.
Yep
Contact lenses in the early 60's?
The dress that Carol is wearing, is that one 'leaf' around her collar supposed to be that color or was it inadvertently turned around?
on second thought it think it's supposed to be like a gold leaf. Very pretty.
Back when $500.00 was a lot of money $$
proper names as clues arent allowed so koufax should have been buzzed as well as Elizabeth for tailor
Norman?...is that you Norman???
She said mash not smash.
Anthony Perkins looks like Harrison Ford
