- Hope you enjoy the first of a two part series for Dinosaur Island! Gosh I just love this game, even if the colors make my head hurt.
Let me know what you think I should do next!

I was always exclusively into Rahdo and the dice tower but since I am playing solo I really dig and enjoy your stuff. Such a good explanation of the games. You helped me already to get through Nusfjord, Loyang and Glassroad, and soon this one here. Thank you
So glad to help and hope you enjoy it! This one is fun!!
@@OneStopCoopShop
Thanks a lot
I played it as a 2-player with my girlfriend when I got it over kickstarter. Just the solo mode is new to me
Oh nice!!!
Really enjoying the run through. You give a really clear view of the game and the pacing is great.
Awesome to hear thanks for the feedback and for watching!!
Another great playthrough. I agree about the colors. I appreciate the bold choice, but it jars my eyes.
Thanks David! They sure don't let you fall asleep in this game!
This really does feel like managing a park. So much to keep track of, you did really well keeping most of it straight. Looking forward to the next ep
Yeah they did a great job simulating this, plus you get to create dino's! :) Thanks for watching and glad you are enjoying it!
You must stop this!!! You make each game you play look so fun that I want to go buy it! You are going to hurt my wallet and my game shelf is going to run out of space. :-) Thanks for sharing. As always, you do an awesome job.
HAHAHA Sorry to your wallet Tony, but glad I am playing games you enjoy!! The game is great, if you can find a copy it is worth it!
terrific playthrough! Love that there's no dead space or wasted time (like when you refill the market with a simple cut/paste instead of moving it all by hand. I'm also not super keen on the pastel palette - it doesn't scream 'dinosaurs' to me but the game looks like loads of fun anyway.
Glad you liked it and thanks so much for watching!!
Great video.... explained so well thanks. Just got the deluxe version turn up..what a game. Thanks again
Thank you, Mic! Enjoy your deluxe edition, it is AWESOME!
Thanks for the vids! Really enjoy how thorough you are going through your actions, and you have a very wholesome personality that is quite relaxing to watch. Keep up the great work! You are becoming one of my favourite board game playthrough CZcamsrs 😁
Thanks so much for the wonderful compliments! :) I appreciate you watching and hope you enjoy the rest of the channel!!
This game looks like a blast. My wife loves theme park games. I'm going to get this one specifically for her.
Great choice!! It is most certainly a blast! Thanks for watching!
justifications for buying :D I like it
I think it's perfectly fine for you to regain the 2 basic dna you missed since you caught the mistake before moving to the next round. If anything, roll the dna dice to randomly choose the 2 that you've missed!
I should have but I didn't, I just finished recording tonight! I think it made the game a tiny bit harder but oh well, my fault. Hope you are enjoying this one!! I am really liking it!
Well, I officially regret I did not backed this one... Great playthrough, thanks.
I think you can still pick it up from your LFGS! Thanks for watching!!
new kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/pandasaurus/dinosaur-island-back-from-extinction?ref=discovery
Thanks :)
This is awesome. I can’t wait for my copy to turn up!
Fingers crossed it happens soon!!
I think taking the Spinosaurus was a little on the greedy side. There was also a point where you had the 2 wild basic DNA, and only used your 1 scientist on it, when you could have used your three to much more effect.
Probbly, but I wanted those cool dino's! :) Thanks for the ideas!
Another serie to watch take vacations hehehe
Hehehehe this is a good one and a kickstarter for an expansion is out right now!
Wow great video! Really enjoying your run throughs, you articulate your thoughts well and edits are great for pacing. Can't wait until part 2 - definitely subscribed! You're really doing awesome at this game as well, just gotta get those last three objectives.
Thanks so much Ben!! Appreciate you watching. So far so good, but we will have to see what happens for the last 3 objectives, as a couple of them are not easy!! Thanks for watching!
Game looks great on the table but geez does it take up a lot of space! Loving the playthrough and could easily see myself getting this one in the near future.
Seeing as though this is a beat your own score solo experience, was there a target score you set at the start as a goal? Either way I'm looking forward to the next episode. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching!! YES it is a table hog for sure!! There is no "goal" but they suggest you try to complete 1 objective each round which is what I am trying to do. Then I add up points to see what I get! :)
Another great play through. Can you please put the Dino meeples on their side for the next video so we can see them?
Ah shoot!! I JUST recorded the vid tonight and did not do this. . . I am sorry. If you want to see specific ones send me an email and I will send you pics!! :) Sorry about that, should have thought of that. . .duh!
One Stop Co-op Shop no problem!!! Don’t worry about it.
Great idea though I will do that next time!!
I gotta say I'm really not digging the "every turn you lose 2 dice randomly" design. I mean, I get it's probably supposed to simulate other players taking them but the fact that it's always before you the player get to pick means it's possible, like the first two turns, to have two of the best dice just snatched up and there's nothing you can do about it. It feels bad, and that's just human psychology. The emotional trip is "Alright, rolling dice! Oh wow, I got some good ones, I can't wait to use them! Okay, time to see what's taken away. Oh. I... I guess I don't get to do that cool thing I wanted to do. Alright then." You start out excited and happy and end feeling like you've had something taken from you.
TOTALLY get what you are saying. It is hard to emulate another player and for some reason it still works for me. I mean I have had that EXACT feeling when playing a game competitively so, I guess it did a great job emulating that feeling at least!
Yeah, I guess it's just that in an actual multiplayer game you have the person there and you can kinda blow off steam, trash talk a bit. "Oh you *knew* I wanted that didn't you?", that kind of thing. Plus, presumably in a multiplayer game sometimes it's your turn to pick first and so it's you who can mess with the other players. Neither of those elements are present here in this solo game. I'm not a professional game designer and these videos are my only exposure to this game so I might be missing something, but that's how it comes across to me.
Totally get you here. I will say I have blown off steam at a card, including but not limited too throwing i on the floor, screaming at it, maybe even redrawing a new one perhaps! :) But you are right I never get to go first which is a bummer.
Having thought about it a bit, if I were to put on my game dev hat I'd change the rule to be that instead of having the dice randomly removed based on the card, instead the player chooses 1 die to keep, then randomly one of the remaining 4 is removed, then the player chooses a second and one of the remaining 2 is removed. You still end up with 3 dice (it looked like the majority of cards only removed 2, with 1 and 3 dice removed being a minority) but the player always gets at least 1 die that they really want.
All that just as speculation mind you, I definitely enjoyed seeing this playthrough. And just to be contrary, I enjoyed the horribly garish colors. Every day is Mardi Gras when you play Dinosaur Island! :D
You know that is a GREAT idea, I really like it! Alternate between the AI and the player. . . Nice! And glad you enjoy Mardi Gras every day you play Dino Island hahahaha!! Thanks for watching!
Colin, Dragonfire was one of your favorites from last year. Why no videos? Is it because you prefer to play as co-op? 4 handed is difficult solo. Adam Smith recommended Uberstax. Have you tried these or something else to hold up multiple hands of cards?
Good question Mike! I want to do the playthrough with Monica, so I have to wait until she is willing to do it, that is why I am waiting. Never tried uberstax, I will have to look that one up!! I usually just lay the cards out on the table. . .
Nice play through, one thing I've played this several times now, but nowhere in the Rule book does it talk about your VIP meeple. Is that a house rule or am I missing something?
You re right it is not in the rules!1 Check the FAQ on Board Game Geek it is there! :)
Ok thanks!
WHY DIDN'T I THINK ABOUT THIS FOR SOLO?! :D
It is awesome solo, just wish there was an AI but it still works REALLY well for solo!
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of beat-your-best-score variants and also prefer an AI opponent, but I can see myself making an exception for this game as it's very interactive and nostalgic.
Yeah there is just something about this one. . . Not to mention it is just FUN!! :) But I think the dino's make it go from a good WP, to a great one!
19:53 you removed the tier 1 dinosaur instead of the tier 3 dinosaur
Thanks Bob!
This games has in my opinion a Viticulture vibe... and I think I will like it more than Viti...
Never thought of that! I agree though, and I like this theme. . .so. . . I am biased :)
Me likey!
REALLY enjoying this one!
I have never played this game (waiting for my copy in the mail) - and I am enjoying the video so far!
But, at 7:28 you put 1 worker on tool bench and 3 on dino security (paying 1 total for 3 security)
This seems a waste to me as, unless I am missing something, could you have instead placed 2 workers on tool bench then 1 on dino security (paying 3 total for 3 security) - freeing up a worker to place on venture capital, getting 3 back (so pay nothing overall)
Thoughts?
So I haven't played the game since this video came out as I sold the game so I can't help you out here! Feel free to ask on BGG. Regardless thanks for watching!
@@OneStopCoopShop Oh really? You seemed so excited about this game! I got my Xtreme edition copy today and can't wait to play it
Keep up the good work!
niiiccceee!!! Yeah I can't keep everything so I ended up selling this one. But still really enjoyed it. Good luck to you!!
Stephen Griffith: I believe you are correct here.
you won't be able to complete the objective (assign only one scientist) if you pass with the other two!
What do you mean? I did not use them in the research phase right?
Technically you did as you passed with them. This is from the FAQ:
Q: The objective, "Assign only 1 scientist in the Research Phase."Does that mean to pass 2 times (and use them in the Phase 3 or don't do anything with them?
A: (From designers) The latter; assign one and the other two are not used in research or worker phase.
REALLY?!? Wo that is so not how i read that card! Thanks for the help I will make a note!
18:15 wouldn't you get 4 VP for the Velociraptor alone?
Sorry can't remember played this a year ago hahaha!
At the end of a round, you only score 1 VP per patron at an Exhibit. The 4 VP printed on the Velociraptor Exhibit is how much you score per Velociraptor at the end of the game.
I am ok with the game colors, but the rules book is quite headache inducing... Very verbose with gigantic fonts... very off-putting ...
TOTALLY get that!
Am I the only one who is turned off by the colors of the game?
No it's super ugly to me. Sounds like a cool game but it would have to be more appealing artistically!!! No go for me!
Doh! I just read Colin's comment under the video. I am too shallow to get past the pastel colors.
Totally get it Mike, it is a little jarring!
It's a tribute to the 80's and late 90's as well as Jurassic Park. The illustartions are good and the graphic design is fine. Sure it can use a little tweaking here and there but everything is very organized. What's throwing people off is the small color palette. They used the same colors on everything. If they would have broken it down a bit better it would probably seem more pleasing to the eyes of the people who don't like it. I'm an 80's baby so I love the vibrant colors. As an Illustrator and graphic designer, the cover art of the box is awesome. For the most part the font usage is consistent. My only problem is, I wished I backed it instead of backing out of not getting it. To each their own though. Things that are done like this as tribute is something you hate or love, there's no in between. Choosing not to play a game based on it's appearance is something I'm guilty of as well so I can't get on anyone's case. Games like Barenpark, Merlin, and Agricola all have an art style I can't stand. I know a lot of euros use the same artist or art style and I hate it. Most of the graphic design is so cluttered and the Illustrations are always so cringey. I want to try those games but yikes. To me if euro games had more of a modern graphic design feel to them, they would be a lot better to me. Every euro gamer would probably disagree with me but oh well.
Great video!
pencilpauli I don't think their intentions were to make a game about a dino park in the 80's/90's. I think their intentions was to make a dino park game and they had the opportunity to stand out a bit by going with a retro visual look for their game as a way to pay tribute. From the reviews and such that I've seen about the game, it seems as though they made a great game.
No I don't think every person who has a background in art thinks of their taste as impeccable or surperior to others. I don't but I obviously stated a little bit about myself. People have their tastes and that's fine. The person who stated how they felt and I responded by doing the same and shared the same feeling the person had about the look of this game to games I don't care for due to their art. I'm sure they're great games but it is what it is. I just feel maybe sometimes people don't look at the art on a board game beyond what they see at first glance.
What art style do you like on a game?
