- Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic Multiplayer Monday! Today we are trying to build the best paper plane we can! We have a limited time to build a paper plane to start with. We then get to launch it twice and use that information to make minor changes to the plane to gradually improve it over 5 generations. Who can evolve the best paper plane?

Finally! The "evolution" part of the channel moved from Trailmakers to Scrap Mechanic!
Edit: I'm going to ruin this comment by writing "Thanks for al the likes!".
Nah they done it in both scrap mechanic and trailmakers. If u were an OG who watched this group's progression you'd know. Go watch them they are great.
@@-aid4084 i mean aggression is unneeded but yes they did do at least 1 evolution in scrap mechanic
There was a glider evolution in scrap mechanic
@@gallagherthewolf5845 no aggression was intended sorry
What about the glider challenge that was also in scrap mechanic
Can we all agree that this is the best trio on CZcams
Agreed
Yeah pretty much
*Yeah.* Bold and not changing answer
Yessir
I disagree
I love how scrapman ended up winning after his design settled on an ekranoplan
I’m so happy the evolution series will hopefully be coming back I loved it
I like the new outline of your cog, Scrapman. It looks clean and does a nice job. Of showcasing your background/shelf. I hope your move has been fluid and life is getting back to normal for you, the wife, and the scrapdogs!
I love the idea of no driver creations! I would love to see sensor based challenges like driving paths and such. Maybe a sensor based battlebot? Idk
ScrapMan: Paper Airplane
kAN: Modern Airplane
Moonbo: Wright Brothers
You should create a measuring surface you can weld to the ground. That way you can just paint the block where it ends without worrying about the block getting in the way.
This is cool keep it up scrapman
And the first one that can spawn is like a paper plane that is stayrophone
Really enjoyed this one. I kind of remembered the first video I have watched on this channel, which was evolution of glider cars.
Nice new set ScrapMan! Congrats on the new house!
The best series EVER!!!
Can't wait for YDIB!
Ok so you could do somethig like this:
You have like a currency and every piece you add costs you X amount.
Each of you start with like 30 currency and when you finish the round you get more depending on how you performed, but the amounts go like this
3rd gets 20
2nd gets 15
1st gets 10
This so its constantly leveling out the competition
You should also do the other evolution mode that you did, where you work on the best performing one.
I'm surprised kAN didn't do a cool sensor system thing. Also I learned that 1 degree can change the behaviour alot.
sensors that change the wing angle based on flown distance? since it was part of the rules that nothing can move one the plane besides the plane itself, it would have been cheating.
@@FeuerToifel ohh I see
@@TheMRacer
Yes, a sensor into a timer into a controller would make vor an easy way to tilt the wings up after the start and make up some of that lost height with it.
And then its just adjusting the timing and angles
That wouldn't be evolving much, but just fiddling with settings
this is my favourite series
I think keeping with the wing mod theme, try a helicopter lift challenge. You would have several different weights, I would include different grip points, slats on the bottom for a kind of pallet like grip, rails on the sides for a clamp, and a top loop for a hook. Each participant will need to design a helicopter to lift the weights using which ever grip they prefer, however the helicopter that can lift the most weight and carry it to a drop point in the least amount of time for each weight. You will need to lift off from a landing pad, fly to the load and pick it up, then fly the weight back to the landing pad and land their helicopter.
Of coarse because you will be using the wings mod you will need to use rotation of the wings rather than thrusters to make it fly, this is for a real challenge both in terms of user control, but also in build functionality.
I dunno about that, a helicopter is very difficult to make.
@SoupinSpace all you need is 2 counter spinning props, as long as there is 2 spinning in opposite directions the rotational force cancels out, then it's just tilting the props for forward, back, left and right.
Scrapman forgot how much, despite being objectively AWESOME, wedges are heavy.
It's been so long since the last evolution video , thank you for bringing it back.
Can we have a YDIB multiplayer Monday?
Need more like this , seem more old school
I want to see a vehicle relay race across land, sea, & air while transporting an angry haybot as the baton
Man I'm so glad to see Moonbo winning, he's doin it not that often, u know
Should definitely do more evolution stuff it's my favorite at least
Yeah, its been months since any evolution video and closest thing to evolution races is this series of races when everyone improves just their design
WOO! i love the evolution videos, and now its in scrap mechanic!
catapult evolution (glitches allowed)
catapults AND projectiles
limits: no thrusters
I think that this would be awesome
Its kinda ironic how scrapman does good when driving gliders but not good in making paper airplanes
MPM Idea after watching the end of the video.
Groundeffect evolution. starting with 20 or so blocks up to what ever you guys feel like.
Launching from a similar catapult
hey @ScrapMan , just a quick comment, I suggest putting on a Pop Filter in front of your mic. Maybe you have thought of this allready and you just havn't gotten the time for it yey. Thanks again for delivering quality content as always!
I can’t stress this enough of how much I love these evolution series. Wish more would come in the future.
Finally a vehicle building challenge again!
The same concepts used in planes to give them natural stability work in scrap mechanic, so if anyone had thought to give their plane dihedral wings and balance their center of gravity, it would have been really good.
I think I understand, but could you explain in simple terms?
@@irrelevantsafetyplanes are usually made to be stable. In most planes, there is a slight upwards angle in the wings to do this. When one wing tilts down, it is now essentially flat which makes it generate more lift, flipping the plane back up. As far as center of gravity goes, planes have their center of gravity forward of their wings. Their wings act as a fulcrum of a lever. To balance the center of gravity, the horizontal stabilizer generates negative lift. It is often a symmetrical airfoil angled down. This slight angle (because of its further distance from the ‘fulcrum’) balanced the center of gravity. When the plane pitches down, that downward angle of attack is intensified, resulting in a pitch up motion. When the plane pitches up, the horizontal stabilizer has a lesser angle of attack which lets the center of gravity pull it back to center. The vertical stabilizer also provides stability based on varying angles of attack.
I'm so glad Moonbo got a W for once! You and kan are more competitive I feel so it's nice to see him beat you guys!
Finally, a backwards evolution video in scrap mechanic
How about just this paper airplane idea, but the crafts have controls on them
this was great love these videos scrapman keep it up
Do a Pine Wood Car challenge where you make cars that race each other using gravity and weight but with certain limitations. I remember gluing pennies on mine as a kid.
I love your new house the background looks amazing
You could make an autopiloting plane or car, basically robot racing evolution,
Using sensors and stuff
you know that is my favorite type of MM, its just so enjoyable to watch.
So, I was thinking, maybe you guys could do a challenge to see who can make an unmanned car that goes the straightest. You'd have to either make a course that's slightly raised with edges that slope down, or a long corridor.
Should have done two straight winglets and the three middle wings with a 5 degree incline. Just to have those middle wings catch onto the air kindof like a sail would to help the plane fight against gravity a little longer. The winglets would just help at keeping it level, though they might not even be needed.
Can you do a Challenge/ Evolution with a plane that is powered by thruster thats connected to a timer, so the thruster gets power only 5-10 sec. and you have to get trough a course or you have to achieve the furthest distance
I would have preferred a proper evolution challenge that would have had all players take the winning design of a round to try and improve it. If they were all worse the following round they'd keep the same generation into the next round. Only a better design would push the players into the new model.
Would have made for a far more interesting evolutionary change.
A plane challenge that scrapman loses? Impossible
Thanks, Evolution series are the best
Hi!
I think it would have worked better if you attached the middle wings to a bearing on their forward center, and gave them a 3-5 degree elevation, while keeping the other large wings at 0, then adjust the small wings in the back to keep the glide flat.
For paper airplanes the best arrangements is to put weight on the front and have negative angle of attack in the back (facing downwards), so at speed the plane would tend to go up, but when stalling the front weight would help pull the plane downwards which would give the plane more speed which the plane would pitch upwards and then balancing out the front weight with the negative angle of attack.
okay this is a brilliant idea. Excellent video gentlemen
Hoping for a vehicle relay race over land, sea, & air transporting an angry haybot as the baton
I love your videos
I'm pretty sure on scrapman's plane the "tail fin" piece was being contacted by the launch mechanism before the body on all of the iterations, meaning it was literally getting thrown at a downwards angle.
a perfectly flat toss and perfectly flat glide would theoretically be the best option in both game and real world physics but scrap mechanic can be janky enough that I would not be remotely surprised to find that you can make a thing that consistently falls up, let alone to find that gliding doesn't work quite how you'd expect.
Hi Srapman, is it possible to try to do a plane race or an aerial battle (cardboard plane) or make remote controlled planes if not continue like that ?
Let’s go!!! I’ve wanted Scrapman to do paper airplanes, and this was awesome. Keep up the amazing videos!!
Turns out the best plane was a sled all along.
YESSSS I HAVE MISSED THIS SERIES SO MUCH!!!! Even if its on Scrap Mechanic and not Trailmakers
Amazing! This is what I was waiting for a while now, happy to see this again!
I think an AI bot evolution challenge would be a good idea.
it would be cool to see one of these except you are allowed to have moving parts like sensors as long as it isn't powered from things like wheels or propellers
so you're plane could do things like turn up if its close to the ground or adjust other things mid-flight.
Whoooooo Monday
I´d like to see a Helicopter race on the Country Roads map with a fixed maximum flight height of 20 blocks (limit that by a sensor below the seat for everyone) maximum of 1 thruster for each direction, 4 for lift, no glitches.
Fun fact about 15:30 in ww2 the painted b17 bombers would survive much more then the unpainted because the paint kept the bolts in place even after getting hit by flak
Another fun fact about paint in aerospace: the NASA space shuttle's distinctive orange tank was left unpainted (after the very first mission) to save weight, its color was just from the insulation.
@@WhitzWolf92 damn cool
I love when you play with the wings mod, please more of that, great vid👍
You should do car races, but the cars steer themselves with sensors! I think it would be super fun!
I love watching these evolution challenges. The comradery you all share is just the best.
I couldnt wait for your video!!
Hey scrap man you guys should do another survival world play through but all of you are in it and mabye you could add another person like cosmo I think it would be awesome sisnce all of you are skilled at the game I can just imagine the base vehicles and other stuff you guys would make together plus all of you would be getting a lot of great content for everybody’s channels so I hope you guys actually do this but ofc you just do what you guys have fun doing
Intrestingly, the angle on the front wings is what caused Scrapman's planes to dip downward immediately: if you play the launches frame-by-frame, you can see the nose start to lift, but then the plane tips forward in response to all the weight being on the tail, causing a downward launch angle
i waited for this moment for years.... and i have inner peace
If you look up paper airplane competitions, how they throw is as important as the plane's aerodynamics
Been waiting for new evolution vids from you for a while now. These and hide and seek are my definite favorites
Same here
I cant be the only one who loves the generation videos
Love you guys, been watching the three of you for years, can't imagine not having you around
Keep up the good work!
I would do this but measure at the front of the glider instead of the back, and try using the navy’s method to launch planes because since it pulls it from underneath, it can go even faster
Day 220 of asking for more workshop hunters, and day 221 asking for more brick rigs
For all of you that wants any of these you can help too
Next multiplayer Monday try shoot each other's "weather balloons" down before they reach a checkpoint. Closest to the checkpoint wins
We need more evolution builds
YES ANOTHER EVOLUTION VID.. ITS BEEN YEARS.. EVEN THO THIS IS SCRAP MECHANIC BUT YESSSSS..
small local change, one giant leap for humankind
fire in the hole ;)
Multiplayer Monday Challenge of Cardboard Soapbox Car Evolution in which the car has to roll the furthest and straightest from a fixed starting ramp.
think a higher catapult woulda made some of the designes do alot better that hit the ground before they got a chance to swoop
I think the only logical step from here is evolving launchers for a prebuilt stock plane or the winning plane from this challenge
I would like to see a version of this where you can adjust controls in flight and/or launch from a greater height.
I've missed evolution challenges. cant wait for another one. maybe the perfect bottle flipper or something
i woudnt mind watching more of this paper plane challenge. make more with diferent rules . adding may be a ring that the plane needs to go throuth i dont know
love the mod use. have you considered doing a low gravity or zero gravity olympics?
You guys should do I scrapyard built minigolf course, where you have to chose many various parts from the scrapyard to make a minigolf course or courses
The ultimate strategy was to just not make paper airplanes, and just make paper ground slider.
I thought I remembered that the vehicle that won then was given to each player to make improvements
Evolution is one of my favourate erm... Multiplayer concept?
Trailmakers challenge Idea: Torpedo naval battle! 2 teams, each with 1 submarine and 1 ship. The submarines have to protect the Ship and destroy the other team‘s ship. The submarines can respawn infinitely near the ship, but the subs only have 1 more life after the ship is down. The submarines have a max. of 2 torpedoes and no cannons. Torpedoes have to be slow (max 2 mini thrusters) as ships have undersea torpedo defense systems.
What do you think?
Most air planes have alot of weight in front, it needs forward weight momentum to counteract the air resistance dragging the back, if you have weight in center and back, it will tilt back.
Next evo idea: battleships
Thanksfor the new vid
I don't know if you've looked at it, it's an older game, but there are a LOT of mods to fiddle around with, quite active development, and a very active community, and I'd be quite interested to see what you and your crew would do with Space Engineers.
It’s back
Great video
I would put the degree changes in the two attempts.
And I would copy moombo, put more wings.
Was there a limit, couldn't the wings be wider?
Yay evolution existed again
Hi
