Well, there for a while you were being ask about what goes on as far as different sound patients make when they die. If it is normal to hear, different sounds can be scary. But my father when he was in the last stage of dieing he mad a sound that sounded like a growl only once, but load. I was wondering if that sound is normal?

I was on Hospice 13 yrs ago. I had everything you mentioned in this video. Im on Lactulose to this day and Xifaxin now, I had a "Denver Drain" and had over 17 liters drained from my abdomen. I did stop drinking when I was put on Hospice. 13 yrs sober in November. The drain was removed when I was taken off Hospice because I was getting better. My mama, who I lost 14 yrs ago came to me and told me "God's not ready for you yet". God gave me a second chance at life and I thank him and my Amazing Hospice Nurse, Katosha. I'll never forget her. I'm now a "Granny of 2 amazing grand daughters. I know God kept me here for a reason. I use to be scared but I no longer am. I just pray that God lets me stay around long enough to see those grand kids grow up.

Ashley, That's the hope we hold in our hearts. Our faith. YES. We will see them again. The tears and pain will be long gone. THE loss Is there for life. It takes time to dilute that heartstabbing pain. I get by by forcing my mind to remember the laughter, All of those precious memories in our our heart. If my mind starts thinking of the end and loss , the pain. I flip the switch. Ok turning that light off going into the other room full of bright lights, happy memories. No pain. No bad thins we saw, felt and can't change. That special Birthday or Christmas. The laughter. Bless you .

Great video! I had end stage liver disease caused primarily by undiagnosed hemochromatosis and alpha -1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. I had all of those symptoms you discussed except ascites. But the jaundice and itching was bad. Lactulose was nasty stuff. After two bouts with sepsis and the discovery of a hepatocellular carcinoma, I was placed on the transplant list. Less than a month later, after two false alarms, I got a new liver. That was 2 years ago, and I’m doing extremely well. Incidentally, I volunteer with hospice. I was blessed with a second chance at life, and feel compelled to serve in this manner. Thanks again for the videos. Short, concise, and to the point. By the way, I would like to see a video about what you feel you need most from your volunteers. Dos and don’t?? I witnessed my grandfather die from Liver cancer(the result of alcoholic cirrhosis) and it was the worse thing I have ever seen. Apparently he had Esophageal Varicies so he had 2 episodes of massive hemorrhaging from his mouth before he finally, mercifully died. He was at home, on home health/hospice care. When the bleeding started we were tried to call the Agency, but they never answered the phone (after hours?). So my mother, sister and I had to manage these terrible events by ourselves, with towels. We turned him on his side and I held a tupperware bowl to his mouth. He was fully conscious and very terrified, crying help me, help me. We tried to be calm and told him he was ok and that he was just feeling a little sick. The nurse only came once a day to take his vitals, check his catheter, bathe him, and tell us how long she thought he had. We were completely on our own. She came after he died, completely unaware that he had passed. He had already been taken to the funeral home. This happened in 1995. I hope that hospice care has improved since then because I think that my mother, sister, and I have PTSD are going through this horrific event.

In between those days, a young man I knew who just came out of rehab for alcohol, died. He had massive stomach pains. Ascites is the worst. I watched my husband deal with it in 2021. He had the drainage procedure paracentesis several times, they extracted the hospital's maximum of five liters each time. He got huge temporary relief from it, before the fluid started collecting again. I remember rubbing lotion on his belly when the swelling got big, because the skin gets stretched so taught like a drum, the moisturizing helps with discomfort, a little bit. Thank you Nurse Julie for this informative video. I have metastatic breast cancer spread to my liver 4-1/2 years ago. I’ve been on oral chemotherapy since I was diagnosed.
The cancer mutated recently, so I was changed to another type of oral chemo, which has harsher side effects. I’m grateful to currently feel well with all things considered. My blood work was perfect today!

This video brings me comfort to know what to expect when I approach end stage liver disease. Now, I am prepared with knowledge to make my final days more comfortable and without fear of the unknown.

I could barely walk, could not open lids that had already been opened, could not reach up in cupboards, and even had to crawl upstairs. Once diagnosed and medicated properly, the pain diminished so much. I had to relearn how to walk properly because, due to favoring one foot over another for the 2 years prior, my tendons had shortened.
I've been on this combo of drugs for 4 years now, and I've been declared on medical remission! There's hope! Take the meds. The doctor will monitor your liver through blood tests. Just make sure the doctor prescribes folic acid and take B complex because the meds seem to draw those nutrients out of our bodies.

My mother died of this at 55 a couple years ago now.
She was an alcoholic had liver damage but hadn’t drank for about 20 years. In 2020 she had an operation on her foot which got infected. This resulted in her not being able to stand up at my house so had to call an ambulance, she went into hospital that night then went into a coma then when in the coma had a seizure that the hospital couldn’t get under control. She was in a coma for a week then transferred to palliative care.
I stayed with her pretty much 24/7 in palliative, she did regain consciousness but could never really talk, she did start to recover in my opinion, but had hepatic encephalopathy. One night I woke up to her having a seizure which lasted for 3 hours the hospital couldn’t get the seizure under control, she never regained consciousness after that and died a week later.
I think more awareness of the seizure side needs to be made, it was a really horrible thing to witness, and to not being able to do anything to help. To me it seemed she was aware of what was happening and she looked scared.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just got placed on the transplant list. With my doctor's care we mitigated the ascites with paracentesis every three weeks or so and then the TIPS procedure that opened the portal vein.
I don't know why everyone does have access to that😢

My mother in love has NASH- in the end it was a bacterial infection growing on the lead wires right at her heart valves. She was struggling so bad- it was causing her to back up with ammonia- made her super lethargic and almost like she was intoxicated. Getting her to take the lactulose was a whole other issue- it was absolutely horrifying to watch her pass this way. They didn't know what was happening until two days before she passed. Three months of illness, mostly in patient. We got her home and 12-1/2 hours later she peacefully passed. ❤. Thanks for educating - things I wish I had known for sure!

Hello to you, firstly thank you, thank you for the channel, thank you for what you do, you are amazing and hospice is awesome, being a man I wish I was half as strong as you, this is one part of life I don't understand or handle well, although there is a lot of mystery in someone dying, I just wish I could be more helpful, especially seeing my wife is a nurse and she is a born to be nurse nurse. Take care, thanks for making a difference ❤💖 Raymond

Thank you Julie! My mother passed 10 years ago in hospice facility in Michigan. They were horrible! She had awful bedsores which kept her in constant pain and they were so rough with her, she cried. I live out of state. By the time I got there she had passed. She was alone in room with her eyes wide open. My sister had left 10 minutes before, but still.

This is one of the reasons why I'd never live in Michigan. Apparently they mandated those pokes in nursing homes. You know the ones. My husband's grandma, who was doing fine until then, died two days after the mandate was enforced.

Julie, thanks for seeing and answering my question about death from liver disease. This was extremely helpful for me to see. I just had a fibroscan, MRE, MRI today for my liver and will have the liver biopsy next Friday. Being educated along the way is crucial so we can indeed advocate for ourselves.

My daughter’s father has been an alcoholic for decades. He lives in the Midwest and I brought her out east to rebuild our lives. She is an amazing women with 3 kids the oldest of which just graduated from a prestigious college and has an amazing job. Her youngest has never met this grandfather. Her husband and all the kids are currently traveling to see her dad. I was notified a couple of weeks ago that he had been in the hospital with an enlarged abdomen and they drain him of much liquid. Until I saw this video I was not aware of the actual cause. Thank you for your video as I am sure this trip was ordained to be a gift to them all. ❤ learning the power of love is the reason for this life!

Hello Julie, you are such an amazing help and have brought such comfort. My mom is in hospice for Alzheimer's Dementia. She checks all of the boxes in your video that explained the end stages of that disease. However, I viewed this one because she is extremely jaundiced and had abdominal swelling. She was prescribed Lasix which she is still on. She is steadily losing weight and we just do our best to keep her comfortable at home. She is still eating (pureed foods and Ensure/Boost) and always wants lots of water (diabetes surfaced as well). I'm not sure what brought on her "sudden" liver issues. Her bloodwork was not good but not the worst. One of the nurses mentioned that some people have much higher bilirubin levels but don't always present as yellow as my mom is presenting. Is this just a part of the overall breakdown of the body?

an amazing fact is that many people pay a lot of money to destroy their liver and lungs. they work hard at it too, doing it every day for many years. alcohol & tobacco products are the major contributors to liver and lung damage.

We made the decision on Friday to move my mom to Hospice care for her non-alcoholic cirrhosis, it's been an incredibly difficult decision, but we are hoping it is the right one. She's been struggling with her fluid buildup and her mental state has greatly deteriorated over the last few weeks and now she has congestive heart failure. She's 80 years old so we had to look at her quality of life and decide what she would have wanted if she was still in her right mind. All she wants to do is sleep all the time and refuses to take any medications, eat or drink anything.

My son died May 19. 24 from cirrhosis. IIt was horrific and (I have been so traumatized by what he went through,I don't think I will ever be the same. WE had hospice but it still was sheer hell for him and he was such a good man. I don't think there is a worse way to die. He stopped drinking in September and never wanted it again but it was too late. His liver was destroyed. I can't imagine anyone beig well enough at end stage to even think of wanting alcohol after going through all that misery.

My mil after vax and boaster got a turbo cancer where one evening she started to complain about pain in her arm and she unveiled her lower arm it was swollen like a sausage. By the time she was transported to the hospital the tumor inside her bone had exploded her bone. She had surgery to repair that bone but shortly after the cancer metastasized to other parts of her bones mostly the spine and it finally got into her liver. She’s still alive but her doctor said he was some kind of miracle! It’s so hard watching your family member succumb!

My sister died of liver failure, auto immune hepatitis. She had to get drained so many times over the last year of her life. And they never put in a permanent drain and I don’t know why. The last six months of her life she was seen at the mayo clinic. Do you think they would’ve put in a drain there at least. But they didn’t.
